It won the Palme D'Or at the Cannes film festival despite being booed by a lot of the critics, leaving Brad Pitt to defend it to all the journalists, as the director Terrence Malick refused to face them.
It shows creation, our part in the Universe, our insignificance but ultimately our part in the scheme of life.
To be honest, you either get it or you don't. That's not a patronising statement. It's just that on some level you have to be able to find something in yourself that relates.
My sister cried through the whole 2 hours and 11 minutes, I "got" it but the other person we were with said they'd have rather seen Transformers 3
But people walk out in droves!
If you do see it try to watch the whole thing. You can't not be affected by it....if you see it to the end!
