If so, can someone send me an invite? I heard it has grown like crazy the past three weeks, and I want to check it out.

Hey Randall, I couldn't find the send invite button so did some digging. It said that the invite feature will be turned off and on during testing phase but I also found this which says you should be able to sign up yourself for it anyway.
http://www.google.com/webmasters/+1/button/

I logged out of my account and checked the page and it looks like it should work okay, you add your site address under the advanced options, it'll generate a code for you then

worst case scenario is you'll have to get a google account which is very easy to do and free.

Hope this helps

It looks like a search button for websites. Is that also a way to sign up for their new social network?

It should say the following

Create a custom +1 button

+1 button preview

Size: Small (15px)
Standard (24px) Medium (20px)
Tall (60px)Language:
Advanced options
Include count:

Asynchronous:

Parse:

JS Callback function:

URL to +1:

More information on URLs and the +1 button

it's where it says URL to +1, if you click on that and once you've put you're address in there it'll give you a code to add to your site. You'll need to put the code in html snippet (or whatever you use) and then you should see it appear on your site, I've only just done mine tonight.

I'm not trying to get a button on the site--just want to join their social network that is similar to Facebook.

http://dysfunctionalmystic.com/

it's next to the facebook one, it looks like you'll have to create a profile for your +1 account which only asks you to provide info you want to make public, I'm not all that great with web stuff but google is pretty idiot proof. I can't even create my own html stuff
