September 2, 2011 Grab your binoculars. This weekend you’ll be able to see the closest supernova to our planet within the last generation from your own backyard. The supernova, spotted last week by astronomers in the Pinwheel Galaxy, which Wired reports is from our perspective in the Big Dipper, is an exploding white dwarf star. The supernova will reportedly reach peak brightness on September 9. Just 21 million light years away, according to Space.com, this is the closest supernova to earth since 1986. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/the-planets-closest-supernova-in-25-years-c an-be-seen-this-weekend/ IP: Logged |

Wow! The scale and magnitude of astronomical events are hard to fathom.------------------ I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are in alphabetical order, as they should be. IP: Logged |
