Also known as "Pirate Invasion". Here in Carteret County (where i live, btw), its quite boring....our county fares are itty, bitty tiny things that dont even have a ferris wheel, and in fact, we just started an annual county fare just a few years ago. This area does, like every other place on the world, has a deep and intricate history...but what makes this place so unique is its two biggest events of the year, the Seafood Festival (which, from what i heard, is the only seafood festival on the entire east coast...so it winds up being packed the entire weekend....and sadly, the location simply isnt big enough to accommodate all of the out of towners), and Pirate Fest...what makes Pirate Fest so appealing is the fact that Beaufort is the home of one of the most famous pirates that ever lived, Black Beard it has a Black Beard Museum, it has Black Beards house, and even his ship and treasure....and it also happens to be where he was executed (the gallows still exist)...anyone who doesnt know who he is, let me tell you. He was a tall man, even for the era he lived in. he had long dark hair that he put candle wicks in which he lit so that his beard would smoke...Pirate fans everywhere know this name better than Captain Jack Sparrow of Pirates of the Carribean unfortunately, Pirate Fest has already happened this year, so anyone who is interested in coming next year, look for Pirate Fests dates anywhere between August and October here is more info on Black Beard: http://www.ocracoke-nc.com/blackbeard/

(video is really cool...i love the bird, lol...and there is a link that pops up after this video finishes called Beaufort Pyrate Invasion, which is just more footage of this fest)) ------------------ I once saw a sign that said "sin is death" but if "all deaths are suicide (linda goodman)" and suicide is sin, then shouldnt "death is sin" be more appropriate? when organic is used to describe food then you know we have come to a dark age in history IP: Logged |

Oops, I missed this earlier.. The Triangle is RTP (Research Triangle Park), nestled in the middle of Raleigh, Durham & Chapel Hill. I've never been to the Bermuda Triangle, lol.. Whereabouts are you? I'm guessing very near the coast - Wilmington area? IP: Logged |

D'oh.. I just realized that Beaufort (in the subject of this thread) is the name of the city where you live! It looks really neat on Google Maps, right on the coast there. Do you guys get evacuated every time a hurricane passes by? I hope Irene didn't do much damage there!IP: Logged |
