I didn`t put this in Heathcliff`s Corner because it is the "company" I am horrified at. How can they do this when children are PETA sponsers. I have been dis-enchanted with PETA for some time and this kicks them out my door.

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is planning to launch a pornographic website to promote its animal rights and vegan diet message, a move that critics say will backfire and ostracize them from mainstream society.

PETA spokeswoman Lindsay Rajt said in a telephone interview from Los Angeles on Tuesday that the group has applied with ICM Registry to launch the website peta.xxx.

Rajt says the site will feature "tantalizing" videos and photographs, which will lead viewers into animal rights messages. She noted that Norfolk-based PETA has used porn stars and nudity to get its message across in the past, including an annual speech online in which a PETA representative undresses. That video later shares a message about slaughterhouses.

She says a pornographic site will allow PETA to reach a broader audience and that publicity about the site is just as important.

Pornagraphy is degrading..the industry is out of control..so, let's see..if they are for porn, then they aren't concerned about humans in that industry but,
they are concerned about animals!?

The actors are going to do their thing, and then they show the important messages? It just seems like something to rake the money in, in an easier manner. I doubt that everyone viewing their stars in their videos, would be all there because they care so much about the animals, and putting a stop to slaughter houses, puppy mills, and McDonald's main meals.

Indeed ladies. Our four leggeds have spirits much as do we. PETA is saving the animals spirits while degrading their own. Now that makes sense
Many children as sponsers of peta and this is a disgrace to them and the parents who have encouraged them to be responsible and become involved..

good point...

I mean if someone is a porno person...and they say they are happy whatever they arn't hurting me.

But yeah...I know it's 2011...but does everything have to be about sex!...in order for it to sell or get a point across!? Sometimes it seems like it.

Peta is a pretty big name now...so I guess they can put their fingers in a lot of cookie jars...but I mean Peta is for a cause, it's not like they are flipping Disney, Playboy, Kardashian!! lol

(I'll explain why I say disney...later...I wanna make sure I can back up what I say first.)

this doesn't surprise me...i've been almost certain for years that they paid pamela anderson to be a sort of hot spokesperson for them to lure people in---which is really dumb considering that if that is what attracts people to their cause then those people are really not into it...i don't know, something about it is just off. and then i heard about this recently
http://www.peta.org/b/thepetafiles/archive/tags/olsen+twins/default.aspx

not that i'm all for fur-wearing, but does an organization that is supposed to be kind-hearted really say things like this?

yeah, i honestly don't like peta too much.they are just the same kind of people who they are fighting against, with a different slogan

I once saw a sign that said "sin is death" but if "all deaths are suicide (linda goodman)" and suicide is sin, then shouldnt "death is sin" be more appropriate?

when organic is used to describe food then you know we have come to a dark age in history

I understand the red paint on a fur coat. Animal slaughter for the human ego is a no-no in my "personal" book.

The P in peta stands for ethical. Now I`m wondering what definition of ethical they are using. Is there one definition for four leggeds and a seperate one for two leggeds?

it just doesn't make much sense to me i guess--the things they choose to heavily attack--for example the PETA people who go around calling the olsen twins fur-hags etc. and the groups who stand outside of the circus where the animals clearly lead far more privileged lives than those at the slaughterhouses or even 'farms'. I mean, isn't that a more appropriate direction for the use of their energies?

I don't like PETA at all. I love animals, but they are extremists, in my opinion. I prefer to support more moderate and less volatile groups.

If the fact that PETA kills animals and don't support no kill shelters (which they insist don't work when so many do) then I don't think they're gonna lose members over porn.

And if a lot of PETA publicity stunts haven't already alienated the public, such as when they protested baby seal clubbing in World Of Warcraft and trying to get people to call fish "sea kittens" (let alone endorsing violence & vandalism in their cause) then I doubt porn will either (save for some hardcore antiporn femininsts and Christian fundies of course).

I agree. I love animals with a passion and God knows we take in all the sad and unfortunates that we find. However, I am not suprized that PETA is doing this. PETA is the same organization that got caught euthanizing animals that they promised they would protect in order to save time and money. It seems to me, that it would be so much easier to protect animals rather than using money for absurd ads and staging protests. If only they put their money where their gaping pie holes were located.
