Before I post anything, I would like to state that, yes, I realize that I am apparently an idiot incapable of performing the most basic tasks.

I started some water to boil for spaghetti. The pot was very full.
Then - all of a sudden - oh, crap.

No, really - oh, crap.
[redacted for the sake of propriety...but those of you who have been pregnant probably know what I rushed to go do]
I ran upstairs for "just a moment".
I did not turn off the stove top.
Because I'm an idiot.

I didn't think it took that long.
I was wrong.

I came back downstairs to find the water had boiled off.
Well, crap.

I picked up my pot to put it in the sink.
THE BOTTOM FELL OFF, MOLTEN METAL FALLING/FLINGING ONTO THE RUG, SETTING THE AREA RUG ALIGHT, AND BURNING IN TO THE WOOD.

Sweet.
I'm awesome.

Bonus points:

The floor that I ruined is the floor that my Grandfather laid down in the early 1960s when he and my Grandmother built this house.

accidents happen Sweetheart,
don't beat yourself up over it.
If you can fix the floor, (maybe with sanding) then fix it.

The most important thing is that you and your precious bundle are alright.

The Universe forgives you.

oh noooooo

..though i thought you were going to say it hurt you, fell on your bare foot or something like that. Thankfully that didnt happen.

Really sucks anyway though.

Yes, maybe it's fixable!?

I hope so!

The burns on the floor. The large circle is where the bottom hit.

The bottom that fell off and (most of) the little molton pieces.

The pot. The bit that fell off was apparently a separate piece.

Thank you lalalinda and T.

I hate how emotional and flighty pregnancy makes me.

I wonder what is in that composite bonding material >_>

I opened up the windows, sent the girls downstairs, and turned on the attic fan...I hope that did enough to mitigate any possible fumes - and that clean-up didn't hurt the little bean.

*looks at left hand*

I apparently burned it a little.

Well, I'm going to stop hiding and'm going to finish cleaning up the mess.

LEXX - (((hugs)))

Looking at the spread of the burns, it's really a minor miracle that it didn't hit me. That's about a 4x5 area.

I'm also thankful that the girls weren't in the room when it happened - My youngest, especially, is my little kitchen helper.

Some research has turned up that the sandwich metal is probably aluminum - minimal danger. My husband still asked me to wait for him to clean it up (traveling, on his way back tonight) to minimize risk to the kiddo.

Welp...there you go.

Ok, strike that.

Aluminum fumes are apparently quite dangerous.

Thats the Proxie I remember

No worries as long as you and the kiddos are safe!!

The nostalgia of the floor Grandpa laid just added some history.

When the kiddos are grown and and puttering in that kitchen, they do something of Mom`s "moment" and they say "oh no! That`s the our family`s nostalgic spot Mom created and I marred it"

That`s how the familial history of moments is made .

Bless you & yours!!

Goodness!
Are you alright over there?
I hope you are not alone in the house.
You certainly need an extra pair of hands for help.

Take care, and glad you are OK!
I don't care for the rug or floor, I'm sorry, what matters is that YOU are alright from the incident!

Oh man, that's so scary!

I remember trying to make pancakes while I was pregnant and I had this awful skillet pan that was NOT working well with the batter and no matter how hard I tried, they kept sticking to the pan on one side and not cooking in the middle so I eventually started crying and scooped all the terrible and inedible mush out of the pan, threw it into the sink and chucked the spoon across the room. I made a HUGE mess with batter, literally had sploshed it onto the ceiling and still had nothing to eat. I cried so much, I started laughing hysterically and sat on the floor in a heap of pregnant hormonal craziness.

I feel you, lady.

It was probably a good thing it happened. If you had eaten that spaghetti, it may have been harmful. Everything happens for a reason.

Sorry if this is choppy. I'm in a doc's office waiting to be seen.

The husband brought some perspective similar to your own one he got home (had been travelling) - very unconcerned re: the floor, very thankful that no one got hurt. He kept checking my legs to make sure there were no blisters
I walked away with two small ones on my hand.

Re: Pregnancy: Yeah, it can be...interesting. Let me tell ya, Very different at 31 than in early/mid-20s - extremely tired, having some breathing &!heart rate issues, etc.

Sorry I didn't respond individually - difficult to scroll on my phone.
