So last Friday I got accepted for a position at a very nice school. They told me something I have never heard before in all my years of being hired (maybe because this might be my first real legit job). That they'd be sending an offer letter (via email) and that I would accept soon after if I wanted the job. Of course I do so I waited in anticpation of said email earlier this week, much like a child waits by the mailbox for a package. I have asked other, older, more career oriented people about this "offer letter" and I guess it is something a lot of companies/more legit jobs do. It is basically a letter offering a position, I suppose.

So, one week later, and I still do not have it. I called the director two days ago to ask and a different lady picked up and said she would send it out that night. That would have been Wed. night but now it is Friday noon and still nada. I mean do these things take time? Like I said, they gave me a position, told me "welcome aboard" and gave me an employment packet. So, am I just paranoid? Do I just remain patient? Any advice from more experienced people? Like I said, called on Wed., sent an email to the other woman who sat in on my interview on Thurs. morning (no response yet).

Anyone ever exp. anything like this? What could be going on? Maybe I am just over anxious and over eager? Should I be stressed it is now a week later with no word? (They said the position would start in (early) March. What should I do now? Call mid next week if I hear nothing? I mean, I figure it is just an email. So I DO NOT want this oppurtunity to pass me by (because of something out of my control, or something) for instance.

Stressed.

If they have welcomed you aboard and gave you a new employee package, you have nothing to fear UNLESS this is some ridiculous place in which case it's best not to work there -ever.
Do not worry.
Just call again on Monday after you wait for the postman.
This is a formality. If they are busy, it might have gotten a bit delayed, or completely fallen through the cracks. Some times things happen say the secretary or whoever was to send the letter got sick, had an emergency and on leave, or laid off. Things happen.
Another thing is: usually the job offer letter contains details regarding the salary and your benefits. They might have to work that through their payroll office too. Have you negotiated anything yet? Usually you negotiate after you receive the letter and say 'yes I accept provided that ...'
It will be OK. You may not be experienced but they are!

Is this the School you told us about?
You had asked us for a teaching project for kids. Is it THAT place?

CONGRATS!

Yes. Good advice. Only. The thing is, this was an email, not just snail mail!

You mean the offer letter would come over email? Are you sure because they usually do both. Until it is officially done (and signed off) they can't send it on email either. It's a formality.

When you email them again on Monday, do ask if everything is OK and whether there is a problem somewhere (that you could "help with"). This way they will get a clue to be more specific in their explanation.
