i was born a worrier. i don't really like the feeling of being around people whom i don't really know that much. i feel uncomfortable, nervous and act rather shy during my first encounter with people which would always make me look like an introvert. our uni's about to start in a couple of weeks and the fact that i'm finally going to uni sounds so exciting to me yet so...i dont know, scary and nerve breaking at the same time. for some reason i always feel this way whenever i am in a new environment. i make friends slowly but once i feel comfortable around my group of friends, i can be really loud and even tell embarassing stories about me and make fun of myself, lol..otherwise, i'll just become quiet and shut down and i really hate it. i really like to socialize! (i'm actually like a little ms. chatterbox once you get to know me )but i also really find it hard to adjust during the first stages of getting to know other people. i'm afraid that i might not get along with these new people pretty well, i'm afraid of what they'll think about me, thei first impression and i'm also afraid that i dont equal their standards..i dont know..for some reason i always had thoughts of not being good enough to everybody, i just feel like i am not in the same level as them, it's like i feel that they're in a higher level than me, in other words, i lack of self-confidence sometimes. Any advice on what i could do about my "shyness" problem? What was your experience on your first day at uni?

It will be alright!!
So many introverts before you have been in your shoes, survived the new environment, and went on to thrive!
I'm also extremely happy for you going to Uni! YAY! I remember how sad you were for not getting into a Uni you had applied for a while back. Apparently, you managed to become accepted in this one!!! CONGRATS!!
Also to say that you will have PLENTY of opportunities to try new things, a million new activities, and meet all sorts of people, so CHOOSE what you like and what you enjoy and what makes you feel good inside!! Then, watch out world! Your real Self will come out and she's not shy or an introvert at all!
Wanna bet?
Enjoy it, sweetie! It's your time!

thank you anon! u never fail to make me smile! i love youu hehe, i don't know if it was my fate to go to that uni because later that week after i got the offer letter from them telling me i wasn't accepted, i got a call from them telling me about their new program this year and that i can still enrol and that i only need to add some extra unit to get my degree, and i gave it a go! i don't really know what to feel up to now, it still sound so unrealistic to me, after losing all my hope and feeling like a complete failure and then getting it all back because of that one phone call, it's just sound surreal.. i was excited during the enrolment, haha but the feeling of not being good enough and being around 'new' people keeps bugging me, i don't really make friends easily lol i don't know why thanks for your support

I think Charm summed it up very nicely!
Enjoy this new phase in your life. Take it at your pace. Remember that everyone in your shoes feels the same way and you will find others who like you feel nervous and excited all at once. It will get better and easier, you'll see!

Just be yourself and if you are nervous so be it. Be *you*. Only this way you will meet others LIKE you. You won't be the first freshman who is nervous, scared and excited over this! I assure u!

The world is at your feet!

You will be fine! It's 'new' so it seems scary.

Plow through and you will look back on all of this and smile
and be stronger for it.

Ah, good to hear! Yeah, all courses sound so tough initially! It's like they make those descriptions to scare people off (and they do to a point when I was teaching my course I only wanted people who were REALLY interested in it, and determined to work hard!).
But you know this is exactly what every other freshman thinks about their courses. You're in good company!
Keep us posted!

hugs
