My aunt was added by two American men on Skype, one claiming to be a brigadier, and a well-known one at that: this oneShe got worried, when she finally fell in to the fact that he was not on the up-and-up. He never chatted on webcam, only through text, and after getting to know her a little bit, asking questions, etc, he asked her what the local hotel is there, because he would need a place to stay when he comes to London in a couple of weeks (she said the name without thinking, and then started to worry). He then asked her if she would sign for a package for him, containing important documents, and pay the shipping fee - that he would, of course, reimburse her for. I wanted to see if we could report him somehow - if she might be able to get an IP address off Skype, or just let someone know. I wrote him an email, that I have yet to send, informing him that we know he's full of crap. I almost signed it Mary, Queen of Scots, since he was using a fake name, too, but I didn't go that far. Should we report it? And how? IP: Logged |

I don't know if she reported it. I told her that she should maybe report it to English customs. I couldn't find IP addresses on my mother's skype, and as far as I know, she stopped talking to him at that point.I mentioned it here and on twitter, to give people a head's up that this sort of thing is happening. There were eight people claiming to be the same guy on skype; I wondered if the authorities could check on his usage of skype, and see who he's been contacting, just in case anyone falls for it. Thank you! IP: Logged |

Yeah creepy. Someone is currently using my LL screen name on Skype to spam or god knows what. I got a notification yesterday. Must of gotten my email from LL. I don't use this email elsewhere. I think it was alma.sun1 or something like that. Just fyi, in case any of you get anything. Report that s.o.b. or something. lol ------------------ "The better you feel about yourself, the less you feel the need to show off." — Robert Hand "Cynicism, like gullibility, is a symptom of underdeveloped critical faculties." — Jamie Whyte "I am not absentminded. That's weird, Alma. :/I didn't email him, because I was waiting to report him somehow. My aunt went to the police today, to file a report, and they said they would write something up, but she didn't get the impression it would be a priority. I'm not on Skype, I used my mother's to check it out. I might search for a few of my usernames when I can get on there again. I don't know how or why he picked her. Can people pick up our email addresses from here? IP: Logged |

Yes, anyone can search for members on Skype. Make sure your profiles are not public. This means ANYONE can see your details as you put them on your profile. READ the signs, Skype is very user-friendly. If you can't figure it out, stay away. Or ask someone to help. Don't go online with all your personal info posted in public view for Pete's sake. As for why he picked her, no reason. He was just looking for a random woman's name. People like him are looking for easy prey. Older women can be more gullible (no offense meant; it's how these scums think). I routinely have spammers try to chat me up on Skype. I block them without a second thought. She should never chat with anyone she doesn't know esp. if they ask her personal questions! IP: Logged |

That person signed me up for Skype again, earlier today, Arabic version. Creepy s.o.b. must be so bored. ------------------ "The better you feel about yourself, the less you feel the need to show off." — Robert Hand "Cynicism, like gullibility, is a symptom of underdeveloped critical faculties." — Jamie Whyte "I am not absentminded. Alma Sun, sorry to hear. I simply hit the blocking button every time I get contacted by anyone I don't know (esp. when they accompany their contacts with creepy msgs lol). I'm not on Skype for anything but work. I use other sites for dating or making friends so it's easy in my case. Amazing how many creeps have easy access to the internet nowadays. IP: Logged |

Same here anon, I love to block hahah. ♡Problem isn't on my end though, luckily. I keep my comp updated and scan every week. From what I've been reading, Skype apparently doesn't require email confirmation when people create accounts. So spammers can have a go at anyone's email they find, AND they can keep on reusing it. :/ What the hell is up with that Skype? Step it up! Ah wells, I'll keep closing the accounts he/she (or extraterrestrial) opens. ------------------ "The better you feel about yourself, the less you feel the need to show off." — Robert Hand "Cynicism, like gullibility, is a symptom of underdeveloped critical faculties." — Jamie Whyte "I am not absentminded.
