Someone got in to my e mail account and is sending Links for a home based business, over and over, to people on my e mail list. It is not me. I am really upset. If anyone got anything like that from me, it was not me. I am gonna remedy it, tomorrow, with my computer store. ------------------ Passion, Lust, Desire. I was getting them from an a person and thought--this is obnoxious. Then I looked and I was sending them to everyone myself Not me, but some virus. My friend said that a person can get your actual e mail if you open a picture which I do open pictures. Has anyone had experience with this? ------------------ Passion, Lust, Desire. If there's even the slightest doubt I don't open pix or files, and everyone who knows me knows not to send me any kind of email greeting cards as I delete them without even opening the email itself (let alone the "greeting card"). However, I still got infected once. A clever cracker sent what appeared to be a YouTube digest (I'd say spoofed), and many of the links were to real YT vids. But one of the links uploaded a virus and tried very hard to get my personal info and get me to give a credit card number to fix it (as if). It managed to defeat all antivirus measures I had but I managed to get rid of it by running AVG while in safe mode. Now I'm careful of anything that claims to be from YouTube as well. Btw, if your computer has any really good components you should check to make sure you still have them after you get it back. Someone I knew had a huge amount of memory to run vids with but after taking it in to get a virus cleaned off he got it back with less than half the memory it had before (because a component had been switched by an unknown comp tech). It's a shame that trust is such a liability in this society, especially as trust is needed for society to work at all (for example, imagine if you didn't trust people to stop at red lights). Never good to open an email or DL an attachment from an unknown sender. You gotta be careful with friends as well. Sometimes they get hacked, and send out links to their family and friends.. and that's one way how it spreads. Also be careful what you click from friends on websites like Facebook. There are many ways to get a password, even an unusual one (mine are all weird, too, and so far I think they've worked). There are ways to get at them, even software (such as rainbow tables), and also ways to get around them (for example, a friend showed me how to load a program onto a computer and then load someone else's disk with the same program and already be inside it without having to know the pass codes because you were already in so when you called up "your" info it instead called up the info on the new disk, thus no need for the password). Sniffers can show all your keystrokes (and thus passwords). In your case you probably got a trojan of some sort that basically put your computer or account under someone else's command, but he probably didn't have actual access to your account, just the ability to manipulate it in limited ways. Still, I don't know all that much about computers, I'm just a drone who has picked up a little here and there. And computer crackers are always getting more sophisticated. If you want to know more about viruses, this looks to sum them up pretty well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_virus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keystroke_logging IP: Logged |

PixieJane I've been hit with a keylogger before. Years ago. They really suck big time. Had to reboot to get rid of. I feel better Pixie. I think they could just send out this e mail. I did the full scan and it did NOT detect anything. What would that mean. Does anyone know? Thank you all so much for your help. It was probably just spoofed. Change your Password, and it will likely stop.IP: Logged |

It usually happens if you use the internet from an open (no WAP) internet access point. That can compromise your email address and password. Always switch to https to safeguard your email login info when you are not using your own ISP. When it last happened to me, I completely busted the spammers a$$. Haha. I found their IP and location (they were in Mexicon and using a phone!) I just did everything to kick him out. Change your password will do it most of the times but it took several days before the spam emails stopped. I was horrified to see all my professional contacts being sent emails about viagra supposedly from me! This too shall pass. Read up on spamming and fishing and spoofing. Knowledge is power. And never never EVER open a link from an email sent from a stranger. If sent from a known person, email back and ask them what the link is about BEFORE you open it. For this reason, I never bother to open chain letters even though I have a few friends who like to send me loads People clueless to online piracy and hacking just don't get it how a link can infect your HD to the point of saying bye-bye to your computer a few days later. Also beware of downloading software or anything from spurious websites. If you feel it's off, trust your intuition and stay away. Also do not just fill out forms online; know who is going to use this info and how and be a judge of their safety measures. Personally I rarely use my real names, addresses, etc. on any online forms for this reason. IP: Logged |

AVG is a great online free resource, but then I was advised to get this one for free from micosoft. There are lots of ways they can get your Password. And then they have their bots send SPAM with your e-mail address as the sender (spoofing). A Password change is usually all that's required.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." I have to give AG the credit on that one. My personal experience was much more serious, so that's all I had to draw from until AG educated me on the more common and simpler problem that can easily be resolved by changing one's Password.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you."
