Is anyone here familiar with these e mails from Tagged?

I think it's a phishing site.

Bulk email invitations
Between April and June 2009, Tagged sent tens of millions of misleading spam emails like this one, which falsely stated that a contact sent photographs to the recipient.[37][38]

In June 2009, Time magazine columnist Sean Gregory called Tagged "The world's most annoying website".[10] Tagged asked users for their email username and password, retrieved email addresses from their address books, and repeatedly sent email invitations to people who were not registered on Tagged, falsely stating that they have been "added as a friend" or that the inviter had sent them photos on Tagged. This process has been labelled an "e-mail scam" by consumer anti-fraud advocates[39] and drawn criticism in the technology press[8][40][41] and from users.[42] The emails were discussed as possible spam by Black Web 2.0[43] and the resemblance to a virus was noted by urban legend site Snopes.com.[38] The New York Times referred to the practice as "contact scraping".[9]

In July 2009 New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo announced his intention to sue Tagged for "deceptive email marketing and invasion of privacy".[37] Tagged reached a settlement in which it agreed to pay $500,000 and to modify its promotional practices.[44] Simultaneously, Tagged settled an enforcement action by the state of Texas, agreeing to pay $250,000 in penalties and fees. Conditions of the settlement included "clear and conspicuous" disclosure of the use of information in the user's email address book, providing a clear method to skip the step and display to users the specific emails to be sent.[45] Tagged has adopted these reforms and changed its invitation processes.[46]

In February 2010, Tagged settled a class action lawsuit about its former registration process with California residents Miriam Slater and Sara Golden and awarded them $10,000 each.[47] Tagged also agreed to destroy email addresses that were collected from users between April and June 2009, if those users did not mean to invite their contacts to the site.[47]

In April 2010, San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris announced that Tagged agreed to pay $650,000 to settle claims of deceptive emails.[48] This settlement related to emails sent from April 2009 through June 2009.

Thanks Alma, I read it was phishing as well. This seems to go beyond the phishing as it uses names close to some others . The e mails are blank. Nothing to click on to. Some names are RandEll, Charmainge and Lixx. Odd in light of what`s going on here.
I was curious and wondering if anyone else is being tagged.
I feel targeted, not tagged and it is annoying .

My email addy that a few LLers have has been getting spammed. Convieniently, they mostly go straight to my spam box.

I noticed last week that a Photobucket account that I have used for years and posted pictures on here through before had been hacked into.

When I went to log in, I couldnt and I hadnt changed the password. So, I tried to get the password sent to my email addy and it never arrived. I spend a couple of hours trying to retrieve it with no luck.

How I know it was someone connected to LL is because I've never used it to post pictures anywhere else.

Here, if you post a pic from your album, people can find the name of your album by clicking on Edit Post. Then they have the name of your album and if they are a hacker, they can hack into it.

Now, I have no access to years of photos that were special to me.

The only few photos I have of me and my dad together - who is now dead and me and my brother who I'll probably never get to have a picture with again.

I'll never be able to get them back all because someone from here hacked in and changed my password and apparently the email address too.

I've looked into how to contact Photobucket Help, but apparently if your email addy isnt the right one attatched to it, they won't help you.

Lots of memories gone forever.

I don't like how unsafe it feels here now.

I wasnt going to mention anything here, so as not to give the hacker satisfaction, but I'm mentioning it so all of you know what could happen to you too.

Thanks to the person who took away the last few important memories I had that I'll never be able to get back. If you knew how few had left, you might feel bad about it..but who knows? Probably not.

Actually, not even "few". Now I have access to none.

How awful, T. Why would someone do that?

Juni, I might have received something from Tagged, ages ago. I'll have to search my email, but I don't think I ever signed up for anything.

I couldn't get into my Flickr account, and consequently my yahoo account - the one I'd linked to from here. I received email to follow a link the next day, due to my password failing several times, but I didn't get around to it in time. I'll have to try again. My pictures are all there, though. I can see the public ones.

Pictures are so important.

Teasel, I don't know. Extreme nosiness is my guess. Unfortunately for them, there was nothing exciting in there. Only sentimental to me.

I can`t imagine why anyone would take the time and energy to do something so immature. It smacks of too much time for an idle mind to have. They say empty barrels make the most noise!

Sorry about your pics . Maybe I will check my photobucket too.

teasel, do you have a new e mail?

Now I have a special photobucket that I will use if I want to post anything here. One that I don't care if it ever got hacked again because I will have backup of all the pics anyway.

Juni, I still have the one that you have, but I hardly ever check it. It's filled with stuff from facebook and mailing lists, so I just search for a name or click on my outgoing mail to find something, when I'm there. I have a few things going to a gmail made out of my name, an address that I use for another username on other sites, and I keep forgetting to check the yahoo account that I have associated with this board. I just thought of that when I was downstairs, and came back to check it.

That's bad T.

I have photos on photobucket too and I used to post them here. Now I'm going to back up all my photobucket files. The album is not even password protected. I moved house a few years ago and deleted my ex's hardrive so he would't be able to keep all my photos and some only exist on photobucket.
I would be extremely upset if some flexoid stole my account.

It is just sad a flexoid (<rofl) can be so destructive for a no constructive reason

teasel, last week i sent you an "it`s spring" letter to that address and it bounced back mailer daemon/undeliverable.

When I switched comps and got windows 7. I didn`t have time to back up my old hard drive and I lost all my stored info & address on it. I was sure that was the right one so you might want to check it out.

That's weird. I hope one of your emails didn't get into the spam folder. Would that bounce something back? Gmail doesn't bounce, that I know of.

I've just marked your email as "always mark as important" and "never send it to spam". I wonder what happened before. :/

Thanks teasel. It wasn`t important but catching up after the long winter.

hmmm, lol. Don`t know this person and it is nice to have a name that isn`t someone I know. Guess it`s time to put a filter on "tagged"

Tagged Megan S sent you a message... 3-25-2012

SC, thanks. it's either get really mad, which i really don't have the energy to do anymore, or just live with it and make new memories. I'm used to losing possessions and people at this point so have become kind of numb or used to these kinds of things happening to me. Nothing is forever.

Yes, make sure you back important photographs up and protect your accounts - or don't share them so easily.

Juni, I just remembered I got an invite to a social networking/dating site called Tagged. Not sure if that's where they are coming from somehow. I never joined it, but knew someone who met people that way.

You've just reminded me that I was signed up for a dating site, when I took a quiz. That's how I found out I had an okcupid account that I hadn't actually, knowingly signed up for. Another site did that with Zoosk. So annoying.
