Yes,as it is always the case when a book is being adapted. I have friends who took up reading them,quite recently actually and they don't mind. The story isn't different,but show stresses the throne game,while in books,it is clear that the iron throne is basically irrelevant,and while they are scheming,the real danger approaches. Robb is not as prominent,Cat is more colourful,Arya is WAY cooler,Sansa more annoying,Jon is not a wuss,no hoes - Ros No Talisa,Dany is more interesting... You can see their inner thoughts,so you can relate better,see different aspects of their personality,here the show can't compete with the books. You can find them on the internet in PDF format : The Hedge Knight,The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight. Once you read the first book,continue with first novella.
