I've been through total HELL these past 2 days with an incompetent and deceiving salon that has worked non stop to try to lighten my blackish hair to a wheat colored blonde... now I feel I'm left with uneven and very patchy yellow-blonde hair.

I look like I have a mediocre bleach job. I guess they had to bleach it multiple times and I don't even know what they did to the rest of it. I think they used a toner too. But it looks NOT the way I wanted... it's very yellow. And it was over 200 dollars the first time! They are definite con-artists, since they overprice nearly every client that comes in. I'm putting a stop payment on the check but I'm worried it won't work. Apparently it's MY fault since I was too broke to not use a box color, but it seems to me that they are incompetent and have no idea what color I want.

Does anyone have ANY advice they could give me?? Should I even bother going to someone else to try to get the wheat color I wanted? Should I just go back to dark instead? I provided what I have now and what I desired below, to see if you guys think I should even attempt the wheat color or just ditch the blonde thing altogether. How bad do you think it is? Beyond hope? Thanks in advance.

NOW:

Lovely uneven root color.

Obvious bright, ugly blonde patches
scattered throughout,
then some darker pieces randomly
at the front that look orange-yellow.
But the entire hue of my hair is yellowish!

DESIRED:

This is the cooler, wheat color, almost
a pale blonde. Exact images I brought.
NOT yellow looking
in most images from the movie.

If you approach them more calmly, but firmly, they might be more willing to help set things right. I'm not saying that you should be a pushover, just that you might make it worse if you approach them when you're angry.

To be honest, I think that it would be good to research the process of going from dark to light, in terms of hair color, just to see what the process is, so that you can get a better idea of what was done and what is normal for this kind of process. To my limited understanding of coloring hair, it is very difficult to dye hair from dark-to-light or light-to-dark. And, too, you could also see if they overcharged you if you compare other salons in your area that do the same thing and see what the average rate is for this, excluding super-high and super-low costs that would skew it.

I personally think that it does look like the picture--namely, the second one (in the section of what you wanted). My point in mentioning this is that maybe the salon wasn't deliberately trying to deceive you. Maybe they honestly feel that their work is what you wanted and looks like the picture.

However, we may have differences in our monitors, or maybe I'm not a good judge--I do not dye my hair and never have. Do you have pictures of your hair from more angles, for comparison with the desired photos?

And, too, have you washed your hair yet? Let it set in? Would it look different after a few days/a few washes or not?

Do you know any other customers who have been there, or do they have an internet page with reviews? Maybe you could see if others have had a similar experience?

Whatever happens, I'm sorry that it didn't go well and I really hope that it can be straightened out.

The thing is, my parents were ****** about how long it took to get this done. It literally took between 11-16 hours, and they were very unhappy. So it was more of my parents' decision to stop payment the check than mine. And I feel for the money I was expected to pay, and how it still looks like yellow **** after getting ANOTHER stylist to do it, I should not have to pay.

I wasn't even mean to them when I left.. at first I thought it was OK but then I noticed at home, it was very patchy, uneven, and not good at all. Quite yellow. And I have rinsed it periodically, and conditioned it myself. I'm afraid to shampoo it - do you think I should? It's been less than 24 hours so that's why I'm hesitating.

I agree, it's most similar to the 2nd image. But the way it went on is totally unacceptable. The color itself is not THAT bad but the way it was applied was terrible. It was also terrible that they expected me to come in that many times, for all those hours. And the unevenness is totally inexcusable. They also forced me to give a 20 percent tip! It was totally ridiculous.

I think that they con people into leaving higher tips than they should. They were very aggressive to me and I felt bullied into leaving that huge tip, considering how bad my hair looked the 1st time. But with the color no, I agree - they weren't trying to deceive me, I think they are ******* idiots who have no idea what looks good and what doesn't. I agree with you on that part. I think they genuinely liked the color but IMO they are very poor colorists for believing that.

I can possibly try to take more photos. I'll try to take a better photo that shows off the lovely yellow I have all over my head...

I didn't see any blatant negative reviews online and I was recommended by someone to go. I thought nothing of it and I feel so stupid for going. I'm very angry with myself right now... very sad too.

Thankfully I am going to go to a more experienced colorist this Friday. They are more worried about the condition of my hair right now, and have a special treatment they want to try to repair the damage. They managed to get my friend's hair from muddy, blackish orange - literally - to a more brownish blonde color. I don't know why I did not think of them to begin with. I feel foolish. But the idea just didn't come to mind to visit them until today. I think it's because at one time, this colorist who also cuts hair gave me a pretty bad hair cut, but I guess it won't hurt to go to them for hair color only. They seem to have an eye for color, just not cutting, and used to give me very good highlights... so I'll just be VERY cautious this time and feel it out? Maybe. My plan C is to go to another experienced colorist my family knows, who can probably help me out. I'm glad I have a few back-up plans at least!!! Since like you said, I knew this was gonna be tough. Just not so ******* ridiculous like these people made it.

Havent read thoroughly and I am no expert, but I saw the pic you posted earlier and you are a very pretty girl.

What made you want to go dirty, wheaty blonde? I bet it will look great when you achieve that color you want, but youve got great blue eyes and light skin, which usually ....a darker hair color looks really great on.

Hair contrasting with skin...often looks best... like when a light skinned person has dark hair and a dark skinned person has light hair... It can look really nice and make other features, like eyes, stand out.

If you can find a really professional salon....they should be able to tell you what will work best for your skin type. That should be what you look into first.

What looks good on Jolie, might not work on other people. Simply because you might like a certain color or style on someone else, does not mean it will automatically work on you. Face shapes should be taken into account too - when deciding on a type of cut.

I'm sure the next salon will get it taken care of for you, but just think about that next time, maybe?

I bet you will look great as a blonde and maybe next time try a chocolate brown. I think you could pull that off too.

Best of luck.

Most women go through a few hair disasters in their lifetime. You will pull through and look great.

Please show us pics of the outcome when you get there.

Thank you for your kind words T!

I actually have pretty dark eyes. I might have been wearing colored contacts in the photo or maybe you confused me with another person. It's OK, no worries.

Since my hair and eyes were very dark, and my eyebrows too, I felt too intense looking. I like myself with a softer look. With some make-up on the blonde hair looks pretty great on me, and MUCH less intense. I actually don't like the stark contrast since I'm that white. I love the words you used to describe the hair color - 'dirty wheat-y blonde'. (Perfect! I'll have to describe it that way to my new colorist, haha.) This shade of blonde is my favorite, since it provides enough dimension and contrast with my light skin by adding some darkness to it, versus a traditional blonde with highlights - think Jen Aniston or basically any other famous blonde starlet today - does not look great on me, since I had the look once about 4 years earlier and loathed it.

I've had brownish-red hair before and I'm also not a fan of it. It's not as bad as the black but I'd have to think about it a lot before committing. But as you said, if I want darker hair next time I'll definitely aim for a nice brunette color NOT stark, bluish black.

Thank you for reassuring me. :') I really hope by the next few weeks I'll have a more normal hair color, and less damaged hair that hopefully, is not falling out! 8'0

I'll try to think positive. And I'll definitely post the final pics, or better pics at least, in the next few weeks!~
