???

The Opening Ceremonies were something else with the fantastic fireworks they had, the Queen-Bond team-up, and that amazing lighting of the torch - I have never seen a more amazing torch!! It was also fun to see the Royals out again, and Mr. Bean was his usual funny self.

As for the actual events, I'm loving gymnastics, diving, and swimming in particular!!

Are you watching, and if so, what events are you watching, and what countries are you rooting for?

Aww shames, Sunshine. Someone beat you to the punch.

I didn't catch the entire opening ceremony - just bits. Gymnastics and swimming are my faves.

Sunshine, if it takes the Olympics to bring you to LLC2, then lets have them everyday I have missed you.

I`m in good company because
gymnastics, diving, and swimming are my favorites too.

LOL.. I somehow managed to miss the other thread before I posted this one! Maybe I need to get my eyes checked...

Did you catch the US women winning the gold tonight? I should be in bed as I have an early morning, but this is my favorite event!!

Awww.. I have missed you too, juni!! I was just thinking how much I've missed the conversations & camaraderie here with you all, so I had to stop back in to chat, hopefully to be back to being regular again!

I have been away so long because I had a short engagement, 2 weddings to plan (one for family & one for family + friends), a few work trips (including one to Germany), a major change in work responsibilities that included intense training for 4-6 weeks, and an interstate move, all happen in the last 3-4 months! We're just taking time out for a honeymoon in about a week's time, and I can't wait to have some down time finally!

How have you been?!! Hope you have been staying cool through this hot summer!!

Oooh, and I forgot to add diving to my list - I have been LOVING the synchronized diving events in the last couple of days - they are mesmerizing to watch!! I started out thinking that synchronization would be a bit too much to expect for diving, but they are amazingly skilled at that! The tiny briefs crack me up though - I'd be afraid to dive in those if I were a guy - what if they were to come right off in the water!

With the Genius of the Glide Technique, Tomas Majewski destroyed the famed American Shotputters [who were favorite for a 1-2-3]. Yet again.
"Americans got a bit of a problem for the Olympics the last 20 years," Majewski said. "They've got great guys, great athletes, but they can't win gold in the Olympics. Sorry."

Correctly said Tomasz.

So for in last 16 Strength events of Track [2000 till 2012, Shot Put, Discus, Hammer, Javelin], there is no gold for USA. This is unbelievable considering that the maximum strength athletes are in America. Hundreds of them beat the European Olympic Champions in strength tests while trying out for NFL.
And there has been no weightlifting champion from USA for decades. It defies all math.

Phelps back to form, deserving golds for him.

The Women Heptathletes are a lot hotter than the overhyped beach volleyball teams

Chinese win badminton and table tennis. Yawn. Don't bother holding these events, just give 8 Golds to China.

The surprising thing is Russia's lukewarm performance as opposed to France, South Korea Kazakhstan and South Africa.

Brazil is the country to watch out for though. Rio 2016, they will get more than 20 medals. You heard this first from me

Edit: Australia has also under-performed. They have never been behind the Kiwis in the Olympics. Only one gold so far. They need Thorpedo back..

I was blown away by the gymnastics, both Russia and USA. Have to admit Gabby Douglas is now my favorite. Her smile is so infectious and I'm so happy for her and the others.

I already know the results for men's swimming, but am going to watch anyway. Love Michael Phelps!

The world now knows of the guts, heart, power and glory of Oscar Pistorius.

In addition, we now know of his charming & alluring accent ..... now the great minds want to know, does Charmainec have the same enchanting accent

Junibug, you're too cute.

There was a lot of controversy in the past, regarding him running on blades and competing with athletes who sprinted on foot. They claimed the blades gave him more momentum and speed. Pftt! We saw, he could still be beaten despite running with the blades.

I do admire his will and determination to fulfil his dream and prove people wrong.

Yeah, yeah. I still have a proudly South African accent (which people often mistake for a British one) Although some words have been changing without me noticing, unless brought to my attention ie. "tomARto" has become "tomAto" and sometimes "cARn't" is "cAn't".

Randall: if ya`ll pass me sum grits

Charm: I "cARn't" you ate them all.
