OK. Take 2.

I've had enough of the hipster culture, which is currently plaguing my immediate surroundings, including Facebook.
I wrote this in the spur of the moment and it felt better to get the emotions off my chest.

Cool train, cool train,
How I wish to ride you.
Cool train, cool train,
Will you let me on?
Cool train, cool train,
I promise to abide by
All the very cool rules
You've set up early on.

I promise not to post
Those silly pics of kittens
And all my wide-eyed comments
Should promplty be deleted.
Wise-ass and ironic will only be now seen
For being less than hollow
Is every girl's dream.

How do YOU deal with the flippant know-it-alls, trendy, snobby and unforgiving people in your FB life?

I, personally, can only take so much irony before it starts coming out of my ears and makes me want to go hide under a rock. what happened to real originality? What happened to kind acceptance? Or have I just gotten too old to understand this?

Intellectual brow-beating disgusts me.

Haven't had FB in awhile now. Don't miss it either!

I like your poem by the way.

Idk.. I am pretty self-absorbed. I only take what speaks to me, ignore the rest. I am happy for their accomplishments if they share but really we're all alone in this world. I mostly post cutesy pics (yeah, with kittens too! I wove kittens, babies and stuff like that) and motivational stuff. If anybody has a problem, hey, don't look. I don't post for them, I post for myself. For once, self-absorption is smth positive lol

I don't think I have any hipster or yuppy friends left on my fb. I recently pruned and down to a low 49. A small percentage of that number is hidden from my feed.
Not many people of my generation, as I don't have any friends from my own age group. My RL friends are over forty, they usually post about what matters in the community. Not any intellectual brow beating for the sake of who is going to appear more intelligent. If i see that crap I delete them. I have a Zero tolerance policy.
My purpose on faceboook is all about the groups, the theosophica & anthro groups, listening to all the oldies share their knowledge is blissful.
I also have a secret group just for my immediate family to chat when we can't get together. Occasionally I troll peoples pages and rick roll them or facejack them. Randall is my current target.

I still see it occasionally but no longer a plague. Recently, for some reason I had some cold audacity come over me and mass deleted many high school friends.
Can't describe how right that felt.
FB is an anomaly when it comes to astral attachments... LESS is more.

I love the poem...

but it blows my mind anyone even has FB. Of course it`s a place for farces and fakes to strut their stuff.

Where else can they all be a (false) big shot in their real life?

Forums are enough brain / emotional cramps for me

Kudos SunChild!

FB isn't always so bad. You can run into trouble or stupidity anywhere. I keep in touch with people there, and love it when people get along; I did have to block an aunt, though - she was rude to me, and I'd had enough. Sister is blocked, too. That's what happens when siblings marry douchebags.

I usually hide their updates. I only know a handful who try to be unique and I don't bother reading their updates or go to their profiles. It may cause my bs radar to come unhinged and my head to explode.

It's the best place for people who don't have a life and feel the need to constantly update 15 times a day. Seriously... Oh, and the fake people from high school- bullies- who could barely read on a 3rd grade level in senior year have made up these fantastic lives in which they graduated at the top of their imaginary classes from UCLA yet won't specify on their major or degree. The one that nearly had my sides splitting was a former frienemy claiming that she was a graduate student working on her bachelors degree.

There's so much bs on facebook. Having it is like contracting herpes. Once you've got, you've got it for life because you can't delete your account. You can only deactivate it and come back later to reactivate it.

Facebook is just like real life. It is what you make of it.

There are fakes and there are genuine people. If you don't like a particular person they shouldn't be on your friend list unless you enjoy the drama. If you like a someone personally but don't like all their updates then you can easily block their updates so you don't have to read them unless you are in the mood and go to their personal page to catch up..

I would hope that if someone felt the same way about me as the original poster then they would delete me.

I have a few people on my feed that annoy me for whatever reason -

sometimes their constant rantings
or their constant droll political rantings that require no thought
or their complete lies
or their complete lack of any substance... ever

- but either I find it entertaining on occasion or I realize that sometimes it takes me out of my comfort zone and makes me look at other things in my life or in the world differently. It makes me look at myself and what I want to or DON'T want to be.

There's always room for a cute puppy photo. Always room for political speak. Always room for the ups and downs. But there should be plenty of room for all of it.

One dimensional is boring

Lol. Teasal, please don't.

Family is a pain to have on fb! I had to unfriend an uncle for many reasons, one of which being the constant updates where he bragged about himself. We're only related by marriage and if my aunt has a problem with it then so be it. I honestly don't think that he's even noticed. Lol.

I'm a Twitter person, for me I like the fact it is more concise and you can tolerate even blather from ersatz friends.

Twitter is more like a chat, FB is more like a house that you have to put furniture in and dress up the place.

I don't like Twitter precisely because it's so short. People just end up posting "Wow - I just took a dump!" instead of talking about their day because there isn't enough room.

There's little difference between Facebook and here except that people use their real names on FB (mostly). For some people it keeps them from being an anonymous a-hole because they usually hide behind a screen name to be a jerk for no reason on message boards.

Thank you for all the feedback. I'm no longer angry. LOL.

Here is the newest thing [to me.] It's now cool to knit and crochet in public places so all 20 year olds are doing it all over the place - in line at the store, on the bus etc. etc. I'm now ashamed to admit I learned to knit 25 years ago.

Feeling old and uncool. LOL.

ha this reminds me of a conversation I had with my friend about our other friend.

She posts so many memes and many of her status updates are about how she gets hit on, on a daily basis.
it's kind of like yeah right. lol

Yin, that's cool. Never seen that around here much though. Though I did see a bunch of private schoolers crocheting at a bus stop.

Regardes, how do I delete it permanently? My interest in it has waned to the point that it might as well be called myspace. A friend of mine tried to a few years ago, but couldn't.

There's "deactivate account," and there's "permanently delete." Most people choose the former and then complain that they can't do the latter. They can.

I enjoy the newsfeed. The posts run the gamut. What I like about Facebook (and the internet in general) is that you can cocoon yourself so that you're only exposed to likeminded people and views .

Even having said that, there are those "career Facebookers" who just sort of post browbeating and face-palming posts and articles all day about how stupid people on the opposite end of the religious/political spectrum are and how idiotic the majority of the populace is; also, people who constantly share photos they find on humour fan pages about how little of a f**k they give. Those can get kind of annoying after awhile. I just skip over the bulk of their posts. I don't want to hide them from my newsfeed since sometimes they post something interesting or profound, lol.
