And if you can't donate blood and are broke, just go around doing errands for the elderly and the sick. Sometimes, they can use a ride to the doctor or can use someone helping them pick up something from the pharmacy or grocery store. Sometimes, some thing as simple as washing dishes in the sink or doing their laundry helps a lot.

This morning, I started out with bringing four dozen bagels and two cartons of coffee from Dunkin Donuts to the firehouse. Yesterday, I brought three cartons of small bottled water to the electric company utility maintenance crew station. Just stopping a cop to thank him helps overall morale.

Saw a telethon with many stars last night on ABC. The personal stories are very emotional.

I missed it

We donated our money, blood and continually praying for healing and recovery

We are working with a group named Good Samaritans in gathering warm cloths and bedding to ship East. Little charities can be a big help.

The National Weather Service said an offshore storm that could pack gusts up to 55 mph is in Wednesday's forecast for the New York metropolitan area and the New Jersey coastline.

Meteorologist Joe Pollina said the storm looks like a classic Nor'easter, coming up along the Atlantic coast. He said it will not be nearly as strong as Sandy but could compound the damage left by last week's superstorm.

My goodness . Thankfully no injuries or more destruction known.

Northern N.J. hit by small earthquake

RINGWOOD — Some residents in northern New Jersey awoke to a small earthquake early today.

The temblor, with a magnitude of 2.0, struck at 1:19 a.m. and was centered in Ringwood, a community that's still dealing with downed trees and power outages from Sandy.

Geophysicist Jessica Turner at the National Earthquake Information Center says some people reported hearing a loud boom. Turner says those on upper floors of a home might have felt shaking or saw objects on walls vibrate.

The quake was 3 miles below ground and could also be felt in Mahwah, Wanaque, Oakland, Franklin Lakes, West Milford and Paterson
