First of all, can you sing in tune at all? Do you have an average or a wide vocal range? Is your voice tone soft or sharp? Do you sing only in solitude or maybe for/with others too? Have you ever sung for an audience? Have you ever taken singing lessons? If yes, how much did they help you? Is there a particular type of songs you like to sing most?

-Yes I think so (I hope lol)
-Average
-Too soft
-i prefer to sing in solitude (I'm a shy gal)
-Yep, was part of the church choir before.
-Had singing lessons for 3 months but then dropped out. Music academy was way too pricey for my single mom. After when I got into college, I took a vocal techniques class but dropped the class later because I found out that I had to sing solo songs in front of the class. (Yeah, I'm chicken like that). I can sing in groups but not solo. I get nervous & my voice starts getting shaky especially infront of an audience.
-Singing lessons help ALOT. You learn how to sing with your diaphragm, how to properly breathe & all of those other techniques. The vocal exercices we do are fun & silly xD
-I like to sing amy winehouse songs. I like her songs, some of them have an old school feel to it & they are pretty easy for me to sing.

I think so. I used to sing half a key down, or flat somewhat often when I first started. Now I'm pretty sure I sing in tune. My sister says I sing in tune, and she has a beautiful voice. A couple of other amateur musicians say I sing well too.

I'd say I have an average vocal range, I can go pretty deep, and I can reach falsetto. There are parts in the modal range that I either haven't practiced enough to sing, or cannot sing.

I can sing either soft or sharp, although I think my singing modus operandi is softer rather than sharper.

I sing almost exclusively in solitude. I used to sing all the time when I was much younger and before my voice broke. My friends always told me to stop singing, and since then I just feel really uncomfortable singing in front of or for other people to the point where I will pretty much refuse. Unless I consider them family then i'll sing around them.

Never taken singing lessons, always wanted to.

I will sing pretty much anything that I enjoy, I tend to prefer to sing songs that have a personal meaning for me, and that I can connect with.

I also write songs, if you're interested in reading some, you can check out the Yellow Wax and Ants forum here at Lindaland. There is some great poetry, creative writing, art, and more from a lot of great artists here at Lindaland.

I think singing is a great form of self expression, like dance. I don't think anyone should be discouraged from it.

Can I sing in tune? Yes

Average or wide vocal range: Unsure. I think it used to be wider, but I can still surprise myself at times.

Is my tone soft or sharp? That's a great thing for someone interested in singing to analyze. I tend to make my voice artificially sharp, because most singers opt for a dry quality to their voice. I guess it makes it easier to distinguish what the singer is singing. On the other hand, there are loads of nice songs where that dryness isn't affected. That makes me think that your vocals should match the sense of the song.

I sing alone or with others. Doesn't matter much to me.

Have I sung for an audience? Yes

Singing lessons? Yes Did they help? I would say that if you have the talent naturally, you'll be fine without lessons, unless you want to specialize in singing...like becoming an opera singer or something. Then you'll need the training in order to learn the tricks of the trade. Low level singing lessons like I've had haven't meant much.

Is there a particular type of song I like to sing the most? I have noticed that I tend to enjoy singing along with Gemini males like Morrissey, Brandon Flowers (of the Killers), and Richard Butler (Psychedelic Furs, Love Spit Love). I think that's primarily a matter of them singing in a range that's very comfortable for me. I'm sure there is a particular type of song I like singing most, but I'm not sure how it would be described. If I'm listening to something I like, I typically don't mind trying to sing it. The wife thinks it's funny when I tackle singing to female singers. I think mostly I like a great energy and flow, and it pleases me when there's room to add to the vocal part. When I say that I don't mean harmonizing per se (though that's nice), but rather transforming the lead vocal in some way. I also don't mind singing the background vocal parts in some songs.

(Also a Cappy)

I am taking singing lessons now. I really don't want to be the main singer. I want to be a background singer. This is magical, to me.

Here it is! Verdi opera "Falstaff"

This is NOT the production I was in,<<<<<<<
(clip) Verdi Falstaff, Nannetta [5:47] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCY3Hj9FE0M

but this is ONE of the scenes where I was a TREE-fairy. Yes. You read that correctly. I was.... "a Tree." But the 'essence fairy' of the Tree. .... you understand?!.... yes, of course!

In the winter of that year, there was a very serious and terrible influenza outbreak. We sang several performances over a short period of time.... Dec/Jan.

One by one, people got sick in our cast. I think that every one of the "ballerina-type dancers" got sick. At the END there were ONLY about 5(?) of us left standing in the chorus/dancers (of the ~20 members).

At one point they were getting desperate what to do.... The dancers dwindled. The chorus singers dwindled. I was being "asked" if I would 'dance'... No Way! Too awkward. I refused.

Then the final performances came. The show must go on, as they say! Kathy (as my friend) was BOLD. She told me I 'had' to do it--- the friend-challenge, the audacious daring!!

I was now to 'morph' and go from TREE-Fairy, to a Dancing-TREE-Fairy. (How creative is that???) (Even thinking about this has my heart racing right NOW!!! hehe)

I was SOOOOOOOOO NERVOUS. I cannot move my feet and THINK simultaneously. I have Sag-Clumsy-Ascendant! I KNEW I was going to have to muscle-learn this, be able to do it by rote, because I just KNEW that my "fright" would freeze mah footers.

(I could sing well as a Tree with an invisibility. BUT, to have PEOPLE, LOOKING at me 'dance?' Fear-factor! I can barely dance in front of a mirror. I am comfy speaking lines from a play and have moves, yes. "Dance?"!! OMG, you-gotta-be kidding-me!!)

That night, as the production got ready with its costumes and make-up, I was coupled with my assigned fairy-partner, and learned the fairy dance~! The Third time, they said I had the steps down perfectly... just do it.

OHHHH noooo. After the choreographer left, I made my partner do it with me FIFTY TIMES!!!! (to her outright misery, but she HAD to!) I was game-on for the challenge.... but I was NOT wanting to flub it up for everyone. We were all new to this. All it takes is ONE person who 'forgets' and there's a chain-reaction! This had to be absolutely in-parallel-sync with the others.... This was part of the 'beauty' of the scene. It had flow together and be seamless to me....

I heard later that Kathy got her crew-headset on... and watched from the wings.

It started. OMG. I had a magic-feel. It was like time suspension, and I flowed. They dance 'happened' and I did not miss ONE single little move.... OOOOO MMMMM GGGGG!!!!!

I heard from other crew members that Kathy yelled with glee! She was ecstatic!! She hollered in the headset! "She DID IT! IT WAS PERFECT!!!! She really did it!!"

OMG.... no really, with emphasis--- OMG!!! I'm even shaking thinking about it right now!

ah, memories! The thoughts can still 'shake a Tree-Fairy'... *take a bough, take a bough*

Uproarious!!

Cool Ami..... ! I know you like to harmonize... OMG, That was one of my best things I could do... I could harmonize ANYTHING at the drop of a hat!! When I was little I used to chase one of my brothers down, pin him on the ground, and tell him he HAD to harmonize with me.

Oy, the cruelty! o! the days of my sisterly-brutality. (j/k) Oh, the shammmmmme ov it all. It was my ONLY vice.... !!! (I grew up among boys!!) (activity for my age-- 8 to 12, okay?)

(By the way... I haven't gotten a look at the posts from the other day yet! Just letting you know! i'm getting there!!!)

This is rare. My teacher says only 40% of the population can do this and it can't be taught if you don't have the natural gift.

Do you have an average or a wide vocal range?
With a head cold? Bass range C-belowMiddleC (LOL!!)
Used to Reach: E below MiddleC to E-flat above HighC (yeah... used to have a very wide range)
Usable comfortable range was: F/G below MiddleC to A-flat/A (depended on tessatura of the song)
People with thicker vocal cords can sing with wider range. (It shocked people.)
Now? I have NO idea.... It's been YEARS!

Is your voice tone soft, or sharp?
Speaking voice is in a lower range... maybe A below MiddleC, to F above MiddleC?(I forgot now)
Singing voice: mezzo tone... warm not dark (unless called-for). softer/not-broadway belter at all or gospel (darn) It's a warm sound. Could tend to 'flat' some days~~ compensated by paying attention to pitch, breath... get on top of it with some energy and thinking 'up' or coming 'down upon' the pitch. When in happy moods, energy, no problem.

Do you sing only in solitude, or maybe for/with others too? I have to compensate for intimidation/ inferiority complex. But once the music begins to 'inspire' it's like heaven opening.

Haven't sung in public for years. LOVE to belt it out 'with all my heart' in harmony as a Member of a Choir. It's exhilarating, like drinking a pot of coffee! Was always hard to get to sleep after choir-practice nights... 'there IS a resurrection' haha, I could go in with lowest energy that I thought I would barely be able to, then by the end come out soooo electrified and alive or incredibly inspired after practice. (Bless those phenomenal fantastic conductors and directors! omg, for me there's nothing like having 'the best' direct a choir.... gyod, it's like a scorpio-level merging, it's like sex for the heart-mind-and Soul!! ah, incredible!!
(alto II/I section, ~sop2, prefer alto)

Have you ever sung for an audience? As member of choir, and small ensemble? thousands of time!
As backup singer in nondenom (worship team, special artists, cantatas)? for a handful of years.
As a Soloist, maybe a dozen. Again, the intimidation factor is very very very heavy... With training, I was told and invited... that I definitely 'could'---

Have you ever taken singing lessons?
Had a very bad teacher for a couple years. I (and a buddy of mine) was so intimidated by her that we didn't DARE switch out teachers, like 8 of her other students had. One day HER teacher did a Master Class.... OMG. Her teacher was excellent and I understood what the 'bad' teacher had been trying to tell us. Too late for my buddy & me... (we were not training as 'professionals' but only as part of class training.... It was like my friend and I were trying to 'save' her from feeling 'bad' that the others had left.
Tried to pickup some missing credits in a different state, and auditioned and was assigned to 'the best'... I was soooo completely shocked! (I only thought to have a few 'nice' lessons for 'a couple credits'.... One day he, Harold Haugh?, was 'blunt' when I kept being shocked and balking at the song books he wanted me to buy for my lessons.... He said I had a Voice. That I could seriously sing opera... But I would be hindered if I couldn't back it with 'confidence'... I cried my eyes out in front of him. He 'said' what I was 'afraid' to look at. AND, Unfortunately, I caught severe pneumonia and had to quit all studies... Never tried again. Life spiraled down... Entered a tomb in my existence. (early mid-twenties)...

If yes, how much did they help you?
I was shocked that I could sing.
Up till that time, my speaking voice was very choppy and guttural-sounding. Afterwards much more melodic and pleasant.

Is there a particular type of songs you like to sing most?
Worship..... worship. And old beer songs.
Anything that begs for expression, or to be harmonized....
Old English, Britten, Purcell, Warlock.

I had VERY deeply desired to learn and perform the "Kindertotenlieder" by Gustav Mahler. I used to leave that URL around here at LL, but youtube has snatched away the rights for it to be shown. (I had found THE BEST singer, with Piano accompanist who was THE BEST. can't remember who they are right now.)
In the wake of an intensely catastrophic life, I have 'lived' this song's 'meaning' and essence, instead. I have encompassed its depths within the dark shadows in my soul. I appreciate the experiences of my life for their great 'worth' to me now... I have a cave that is filled with so much compassion for others--- I resonate.... like the "tuning-fork"... I hear and know that 'sound' in the hollows of my Bones. (You've Got Bones!) Now, one by one, I try to do whatever I can, whenever I can. I leave little nite-lights on, for people who feels all alone, in the dark. A small light on the shores of that darkness. Give song to those who know its grief...

I wished to also to have vocally learned the "Hermit Songs" by Samuel Barber... but time has well-passed me by. (58 now) The drama of my life Silenced my voice, and imprisoned my heart's song.

Being Present here at LindaLand has brought me 'renewal'.... As I leave my URLS strewn behind, like a minstrel, everywhere around here, I have 'sung my life.' Strummed my life on this typing keyboard. Battled with songs found on (yay) youtube. Singing my life.... with words .... with astrology .... with song.

I like singing and I can sing pretty well.

Unfortunately, I'm very shy and usually don't sing in front of others.

Never had any singing lessons..

But I'd absolutely love to be in a local band with some creative people and sing or play the guitar..

Yes
Average vocal range
Uhm... it's loud!
I've never sang with others, but I'm open to it. Usually in solitude.
Yes, I've sang for an audience.
Never taken singing lessons.
I don't know about types of songs, but as long as it's in or around A major, I can do it.
