Seems like good ol Norton has become it's own virus. My computer works fine but won't link onto the net. Had the Internet providers out here yesterday, all things working on their end, but still can't get on. They suspect Norton as the culprit as they have seen this before.

But I can't open Norton to uninstall.

Any ideas?

Try the "Norton Removal Tool" - http://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/kb20080710133834EN_ EndUserProfile_en_us

- click on one of those links for download - based on the product that you own.

Go into Safe Mode... use Control Panel to uninstall.

Try what the others said; Norton is possibly the worst computer security virus package out there. If you want good antivirus, get McAfee, BitDefender or F-Secure. I believe they are pretty decent.

A message to all users with NORTON, DELETE IT!!!!!!

AVG is free and is quite unintrusive. It's also free, do you can't expect too much. But it is far far better than Norton or McAfee.

Do you have two user logins? If you can go on to the guest user area and then try installing/uninstalling the programs, and another one to add is Malware Bytes. Have used this to take off a serious Trojan Horse that almost had my laptop in the pile.

hi libras, no, no second user option.

yea, I am about done, cant do anything with it.

my last attempt will be to transfer all my documents to my external hard drive and have somebody take this thing down and start all over with it.

it is a Dell about 5 years old, so probably approaching it's death anyway..

again, thanks all!!!

Awesome you got it to work properly! Keep try with some of the mentioned anti viruses to try to take off the rest of the hidden bugs. I have tried setting back to system restore, but that just seems to be a small bandaid.
