Okay as you can see from my question i'm the least technical person you'd ever find.

but is there something like a stylus pen that you can attach to any laptop and draw with that, if your are doing some digital art, instead of the devil incarnate mice, that seem to act up just when you need them to do what they've always had no problem doing?

if so, and you understood what am asking about, can you share a link, and around how much they'd cost?

Thank you

Sounds like you are inquiring about what is called a Drawing (or Graphics) Tablet also referred to as a Digital Drawing Tablet.

I recommend anything from Wacom. I have their Intuos4 Tablet and it's great to digitally draw, paint etc with.
http://www.wacom.com/

can't go wrong with them. My tablet was $200 when I bought it a few years ago. I think they have come out with the Inutos5 now.. I believe their Bamboo models are less expensive, but they are more for crafters and people not as interested in or serious about doing digital art.....

here's the page with the latest models and pricing:
http://www.wacom.com/us/en/product-finder

Years before I tried one out and it was nothing like how they make them now. The pen was attached to a cord and awkward. Now most of them come with a cordless/wireless pen.

I"ve always wanted to try out their Cintiq models, but here's their largest, latest and greatest and at over $3000 I won't be trying it out anytime soon.

I almost bought their smaller Cintiq a few years ago (around $1000), but decided to wait and I'm glad I did because I don't use the one I have often enough, so i could not see spending the money. Although I do like the idea of seeing what you are drawing on the sufrace of the tablet rather than looking up at your computer screen while you draw. You get used to it though.

Thanks a lot T!!!

wow, didn't know these things exist.

Would this be okay to put on a crappy laptop thought?

...after a few expediencies laptops ended up really broken
(i have this knack on tripping on wires or dropping them without meaning....one i broke the screen off, the other the fall was hard as again i tripped as i was holding it and he keys came out, and it started acting funny...and the last one last year simply 'exploded' in my face....u know when the electricity does that weird flash thing and the computer no longer works)

so yeah after that i went and just got a superbly basic one, that won't even let me download sandbox program on it...

so yeah would this wacom pad thingy be okay to plug on to it?
Thanks again for the help!! i'll be asking you drawing questions next, or else i'll never share what i'd draw on my own lol.

LOL I know what you mean about being clumsy with your laptop. I've had two spills on mine since I got it (a MacBook Pro), but thank god i didnt fry the computer completely and acted fast enough to "save it" from severe damage. It's enough to give you a heart attack when things like that happen. I swear these things are built to last and built for potential spills (and they should be, at the price I payed for mine).

So, I think it would be okay to use on your laptop. I don't see why not! Even though your laptop is a basic one, it's newer and should not have a problem. If you can plug in your digital camera or anything else to it and it works, then I don't see why the drawing tablet wouldnt.

The tablets come with basic (but also really great) creative/drawing software, so even if you don't have Photoshop or Corel Painter, or something like that, you can still use it right off the bat. There are other inexpensive artistic softwares out there you can find too.

I looked at the latest options there again and it seems that their new Bamboo models are much more extensive than the old ones.

One of these might work perfectly for you:

the Bamboo Splash: http://www.wacom.com/us/en/creative/bamboo-splash

"Just getting started with your digital art? Bamboo Splash is a great way to explore your interests, with everything you need to get started in the box."

$79

The Bamboo Create:

Designed with the artist in mind, this intuitive pen & touch tablet lets you sketch, illustrate, draw, and paint digitally, as naturally as you would with traditional tools.
http://www.wacom.com/us/en/creative/bamboo-create
$199

The current Intuos (5) (small) is only a tad bit more than the Bamboo above at $229 and would probably be your best bet for the money.
http://www.wacom.com/us/en/creative/intuos5-touch-s

I got mine at Best Buy, years ago. They had a couple of Bamboo options and the Small and Medium Intuos. You can find them on Amazon new and used too.

I"m glad I went with the small because I find it easier to draw on - don't have this huge bulky thing in your lap. But that is my personal preference. And small does not mean you cant create huge pieces on your computer. Just a smaller working surface area, which i had no problem with. You can still make large strokes or whatever....you'll see what i mean if you get one.

You can program - or customize your "pen" to work how you want it to, which is nice. They give instructions and there are plenty of video tutorials all over the web, too (which is how I learned a lot of what i know).

The pen comes with many different, changable tips "brushes". Once you learn how to use them, you can sketch, draw, paint, spray paint etc. like you would with traditional mediums.

I rarely changed my tip and instead changed brush modes in whatever art software i was using.

You can change thin/thickness, amount of pressure the pen gives ..and the list goes on.

Hope that helps for now and gives you some things to look into.

There were a few other things I was going to mention but they've slipped my mind. I'll be back when I think of them.

AH thanks for the effort T, just be warned i'm someone that considers drawing a stick figure a challenging situation which needs a lot of careful thought and consideration.....

(on the other hand just dabbing paint for the sake of it on paper and no purpose at all, i seem to be good at, people comment on the crappy art but amazing colour choices )

i've let the word out to those around me that i want...NEY....NEED...one!

now goes and daydreams of her 'wish getting fulfilled'

So i am in a very crazy place atm...i went and asked about the wacom bamboo, and got the O_O...what are you talking about look?

i'll try a proper mall later on, but for now drawing question if we are doing this 'caveman' style.

does it work to just draw what you want on paper, upload it on the computer, trace it into different layers, and then start coloring it there? Does that ever work, or too tedious for no reason?
(can you tell i've spent all day long 'researching' this today )

Where did you go to ask for it? The only place I've seen them for sale is at Best Buy and that was a few years ago. Might be best to just get it online.

You could play around like you would with regular paint, yeah! And if you don't like something, you can just erase or delete it unlike with regular paint.

Yea, to bring a drawing in you would need a scanner. Scan the drawing, bring it into your paint program, get out the drawing tablet and get to work!

I recommend picking up some books on whatever program you are working with and watching lots of vid, reading and doing tutorials etc. That's how I learned everything I know. I made an investment in some things and then got to work homeschooling myself. There's still PLENTY for me to learn, but I have what I like to do down and know enough techniques to produce some decent work.

If you really want to learn, there's so much helpful info out there and once you get what you need, nothing can stop you!

Maybe Santa will bring you one this year!

I hope so!

just checked and some Radio Shacks and Walmarts carry them, or can order them into the store for you for pick-up.

Not sure if you are in the US, but those three stores are your best bets. You could try calling them first before taking the trip out.

wow thanks T!! no am not in the US but there is/are a few radioshacks around this city

i've started with tutorials on drawing itself....i have a relative who is an artist who spend a while bemused about "Why are you drawing things like they are flat, can't you see how you need to curve it here coz i'ts on paper...." or some gibberish i didn't get...so yeah i still have time!

so have a bit of time until my 'master plan' needs to be put on digital media resources....

i found a place that sells them online to...for $400 and above so will check the radioshacks here first.........i need a program that lets me erase without any consequences sigh...

Thanks a lot again for all the help!
