HI All!

I have some questions about daydreaming...

1. Do you daydream?

2. How often do you daydream? Every day? Every other day? Weekly?

3. When you do daydream - how long are your daydreams?

4. Have you ever been in a situation where you stopped paying attention due to daydreaming?
For example.. if you were watching a movie and something in the movie made you think about something else, so you stopped paying attention to the movie & started daydreaming...

5. Does music trigger your daydreams often?

6. Do you ever experience a daydream intensely - almost like it was very real to you?

Thanks so much!!!

I used to, every day, for long periods of time.

2. How often do you daydream? Every day? Every other day? Weekly?

Not nearly as often as I used to, but that's because of my more negative mindset. I think about things in the car, or the shower/bath, or when I'm walking. But I'm usually working through things in my head, and then I get the odd little daydream going, when I'm more relaxed.

One thing I like to do when I haven't been somewhere for a while, like Home Depot, is to walk around and pretend to myself that we can get a new kitchen outfitted; so I'll check the counter top and cupboard setups, sinks and all, and then I'll grab a brochure to bring home. I'll stand there and try to imagine our kitchen looking like that, and then move on to the bathroom, and the garden, rugs for the bedrooms and living room... I'm daydreaming right now.

quote:
3. When you do daydream - how long are your daydreams?

Not so long anymore. They could go on for hours, in the past.

quote:
4. Have you ever been in a situation where you stopped paying attention due to daydreaming?
For example.. if you were watching a movie and something in the movie made you think about something else, so you stopped paying attention to the movie & started daydreaming...

That's how it usually starts now.

quote:
5. Does music trigger your daydreams often?

Yes. Something cheerful, or very emotional. Like me, when it comes to opening up: either I'm very happy or heartbroken.

quote:
6. Do you ever experience a daydream intensely - almost like it was very real to you?

I have done... and when it involved another person, I actually had some little cue, that I won't go into right now, that they might have picked up on it. I also found out that my daydream about them was more true to life than I realized.

Thanks so much!!!

I liked your answers on the Maladaptive Daydreaming thread, Odette.

1. Do you daydream?

Yes.

2. How often do you daydream? Every day? Every other day? Weekly?

Every day.

3. When you do daydream - how long are your daydreams?

I can't say. Sometimes I have movies going on in my head and I hit the pause button and pick them up later. Sometimes I will try and think of a situation but get bored with it. I can be midway into an elaborate daydream and drop it like a hot potato because of a sudden loss of interest.

4. Have you ever been in a situation where you stopped paying attention due to daydreaming?

Yes. I'm a Pisces moon, and welcome to my life!

5. Does music trigger your daydreams often?

Yes.

6. Do you ever experience a daydream intensely - almost like it was very real to you?

Yes. I can think of situations, good and bad, and it will elicit a visceral response.

I almost never daydream.
Used to a long time ago, but not anymore.

It happens sometimes, but it doesn't last long (a few seconds or a few minutes if I'm really not doing anything else).

Music definitely triggers it, otherwise it's difficult to imagine anything.

I'm really not an imaginative person.
My mind is too busy processing stuff to actually wander off to lalaland.

1. YES

2. Way too often. Maybe 10-20 times per day, depends on how long they are.

3. When do I not? is the question.

4. Yes. Something small can lead my mind on a new private journey.

5. YES!

6.Yes again. I can see it, feel it, touch it and become too immersed in it, in all physical and non-physical senses.

I googled maladaptive daydreaming. Another disorder?

I did used to daydream too much, rather than taking action. There was always tomorrow, or I was just more relaxed about most things. I'm not anymore; maybe this is why I have trouble focusing on my books now - although I still lose myself in other people's daydreams: TV shows.

It bothers me that they've made it another disorder, though. Really? I daydreamed a lot in school, but was generally productive.

Exactly! It bothers me as well. And the girl in the other thread is so utterly convinced she is sick, she is completely ignoring my posts.
O_O

Her mum called her lazy because she daydreams.. and she googled it and now she thinks she is sick.

T,

Are you a lefty? I can't remember (if I knew in the first place).

_______

1. Sometimes
2. Mmmm...sometimes. Not all the time certainly, but I don't know how often.
3. The time spent is usually dictated by how much time I have to do it without disruption.
4. Yes.
5. Not necessarily.

1. Do you daydream?

YES!! All the time, since I was about 5 or 6 years old.

2. How often do you daydream? Every day? Every other day? Weekly?

Several minutes/hours daily

3. When you do daydream - how long are your daydreams?

Several minutes/hours daily

4. Have you ever been in a situation where you stopped paying attention due to daydreaming?
For example.. if you were watching a movie and something in the movie made you think about something else, so you stopped paying attention to the movie & started daydreaming...

YES!! Or in a more bizarre instance, whenever I hear about someone dying, I visualize a complete scenario in which a death somehow involves me or my family. That's how I'm able to empathize with someone else's pain.

5. Does music trigger your daydreams often?

I'm not sure...

6. Do you ever experience a daydream intensely - almost like it was very real to you?

YES!! I'm writing a book now in order to, sort of, reign in my vivid imagination. They're literal mind movies: full dialogue, facial features, adventures, concert performances, character back stories, etc. I'll laugh out loud to myself, nod in agreement...it's bad. I'm able to control it in the presence of others, though...I don't want to look like a complete nutcase (but I'm owning my crazy).

1. Do you daydream?
Yeeeeeeeees

2. How often do you daydream? Every day? Every other day? Weekly?
Every day!!

3. When you do daydream - how long are your daydreams?
Subjective...it can be as long as I'm walking to somewhere to a few minutes of me dancing around the house...

4. Have you ever been in a situation where you stopped paying attention due to daydreaming?
Sometimes, but I can pay keep my attention on something if I wanted

5. Does music trigger your daydreams often?
No, actually...

6. Do you ever experience a daydream intensely - almost like it was very real to you?
Hmmmm...I can have intensive, in depth, complex, and developed worlds within my daydreams - it comes easily, really! But it never crosses the line separating a daydream and something that makes me lose touch with reality, however briefly. I even think up plots and imagine characters and key plot points/events - it all just comes to me!

I am an innie!

The imagination implied by your survey response sounded like something a lefty might say. They're a bit more sensitive, and a ton of them seem to become actors.

My mother has told me that I started to write with my left hand, but that my dad encouraged me to use my right hand. He denies that, but mum clearly remembers me using my left hand.
