Face Off is a competition/elimination series exploring the world of special-effects make-up artists and the unlimited imagination that allows them to create amazing works of living art. Each week the artists are tasked with using their considerable talent to create original movie-worthy characters such as aliens, human-animal hybrids, horror villains, cyborgs and others. http://www.syfy.com/faceoff/about

I don't know if it's just Randall and I that watch it, but it's a good show. It's a creative reality competition for those not into the chef ones or the design ones.

This season started with a two team challenge in which each team had to create five characters that were supposed to live in the same fantasy world. They had to create: a witch, a faun, a pixie, an ogre, and a _________(I forget the last one).

Last episode the challenge was Future Frankenstein & Future Bride of Frankenstein. They had to do the costume and make-up for both characters as well as work out their back story. I thought most of the back stories were good. The execution was kind of hit or miss. They worked in groups of three for this one.

I couldn't help but think about what my idea would be for this challenge. My initial ideas didn't really produce a "monster" as I imagine that they would want (I was thinking along the lines of an alternative monster like a vigilante psychopath), so I think my best idea was that Frankenstein be a reanimated alien instead of a human, and maybe his bride is the woman that brought him back to life. Maybe there was an alien virus infecting the Earth, and she died while successfully bringing back one of the Area 51 aliens. The alien then resurrected her in order to tackle the disease.

I was surprised the Humpty Dumpty pair did well. I was also surprised to see that second guy, a vet, go. He worked so hard to get back on the show, and just blew it.

That challenge was difficult. Re-interpreting Mother Goose characters in a whimsical fashion. I must have missed where they emphasized "whimsical," but I found it a little odd that only one team (Ron and the other guy) really went full-on whimsical. The winning team ended up looking kind of whimsical, but that wasn't their original intention.

Ron's Insidious demon was pretty awesome. That was so smart, making that clear female face mask.

My son watches this show, and I've seen a few episodes.

They are all true artist, what they do is amazing..

I've been very impressed with the detail and some of the thoughts beside the design.

Too much school work to go to DragonCon this weekend. Wonder if the cast is there this year.

Do you watch Torchwood? I just discovered it, and watched the first episode of the first season.

It's like Men in Black meets Warehouse 13. Thus far in my watching they've established that Torchwood exists above the law, and in the absence of any governmental influence. They take care of aliens and alien artifacts/technology. This group is British (it's a BBC America show), but they're lead by a Tom Cruise-looking American named Captain Jack Harkness. His back story is still coming to light. What I know is that the only Captain Jack Harkness on record existed in 1941 America, he can't die, he's been pregnant before. I think I may have learned a little more about him that I'm not remembering right now.

They start the show (first season, first episode) with essentially a new woman finding out about the group, and eventually joining them. They're using her introduction to Torchwood to also give the audience an introduction.

I surprised myself by picking both the best and the worst. Of course it was after comments, but still before the decisions were announced.

I'd have been happy to see either of those newbs get the boot. Adolfo just hasn't done great work, and the other guy has kind of a grating personality. Roy's too good for the bottom. That was an unfortunate mistake.

The judges were very imprssed with him in his original season. That's probably why he managed to escape elimination this time.

Yeah, he's got a pretty good reputation built up there. I couldn't imagine them really sending him home, but they had to give the thought lip service.

He seems to put a lot more into his builds than a lot of people. I'm surprised he's not working for the major studios.

He's my pick to win the whole thing. He made a pretty bad error, but he is usually right on the money. Just shows that anyone can make a mistake.

It would be nice if a rookie won, but the odds are probably against it.

Lauren has generally been pretty good. She seems to suffer from doubting herself, but she's done some really well-received stuff even in just this season.

Yeah, I don't know enough about either Fangasm or Cosplay to comment, but both look intriguing.
