I notice there is a tendencies for people esp.fans of classic movies, to glorify movie stars of the old like Marilyn Monroe and Vivien Leigh as being faaaaaaarr more GORGEOUS than supposedly Pretty Movie stars of this modern day like Catherine Zeta Jones and Brad Pitt. That so much praise goes to the old Stars like Julie Christie and Clark Gable for being all-natural beauties who did not have to rely on ake up and such to gain fake beauty. That all the modern"Hot" Actors and Actresses like Brad Pitt and Jlo would not be attractive at all without make up. I'm curious were movie actors and actresses of the old really naturals who did not rely on makeup like Classic Movie fans love to boast? IP: Logged |

Oh they definitely had a crew present to make them all look good. While I admit to not having either experience or reading or even hearsay to go by it's still very obvious. One example that comes quickly to mind was Dracula's brides (Dracula played by Bela Lugosi) where they walked both forward and backwards without tripping on their long, flowing gowns (we called it "vampire magic"). And then I recall some actress portraying a character dying of thirst in the desert with perfect makeup, hair, etc. Oh, btw, Marilyn Monroe was a bleach blonde (she was actually a brunette who colored her hair to get accepted into showbiz). Very well known actually that old movie stars had layer after layer of make up on their face, or else they'll look really washed out with all that black and white colouring going on back then.....they also used to be a real 'project' for their studios, they teach them how to act and speak in public even when not acting.....so very different than these days, and probably why they had that 'glamour' aura, todays 'stars' don't.IP: Logged |
