Redheads don't go grayTheir hair color simply fades slowly throughout the years — first becoming a light copper before finally settling on a rosy blonde. http://www.purpleclover.com/entertainment/2056-13-true-facts-youd-think/ IP: Logged |

This thread would appeal to my mother as she finds it funny that she will never go grey. She has said before that she expects to have pure white hair. I imagine she seems to think to she will have the last laugh at the people who teased her for her for having red hair. She doesn't consider herself to be anything special to look at but she did say that when she was younger she loved being able to walk in the sunlight and let her hair sparkle. I guess she was one of the lucky three out of nine children in her family to receive her gift. Her aunt and a couple of her cousins and my cousin also had red hair. It is funny when my mother who isn't very superstitious makes me enter the house first as it is considered to be bad luck if a red head enters the house first on new years eve. My surname gives me an uncanny connection to red headed people as I'm sure I read somewhere that it means ruddy or red haired or son of the red-haired one.IP: Logged |

Interestingly enough I had red hair when I was a baby and then it turned blonde, now my hair is getting darker with age. My eyes were also blue but now they are green. IP: Logged |

Well that sounds quite nice; however it is not entirely true. I am not going grey, but the white is quite obvious these days. I think redheads do skip from redhead of any shade, right to white; totally skipping grey. I think that redhead myth of never going grey (or white) may have come about because of people like Lucille Ball. She simply used lighter and lighter shades of henna as she aged. Also she was originally not a redhead. Real redheads may use henna to hide the white hair as long as possible; but usually stop when the white/grey is over 50% of their natural hair color. My dark auburn, once natural fiery copper hair is getting shocks of white and pale amber throughout as I am about to turn 60 years old. All the NATURAL redheads I have known; had their hair darken with age and then go white and near white amber. NEVER BLONDE, rosy or otherwise; unless they dyed their hair as the white came in.

My mom is a red head and I can say you are totally right Randall!! Her hair is beautiful, it has faded and is not AS read, but she has very few grey hairs. She hates it though! I love her hair! Mine is auburn like hers, but with more light brown in it. She does not grey!!! IP: Logged |

I can't comment much about this. I have red hair. I am middle aged and don't see any grey. Yet. I think after 50, my mom started getting grey. I do remember seeing grey in her hair.IP: Logged |
