For tv lovers with Netflix...I haven't been this smitten with a tv show since Sherlock. It's a (British) mafia drama on par with any HBO or Showtime offering. I just finished the first season the night before last. The guy that played the villain, Scarecrow, in the first [Christopher Nolan] Batman movie is the lead. He's a war hero, and the head of the Shelby family also known as the Peaky Blinders (for the razor blades they stitch into their hats). (He's also half gypsy with some Irish sympathies.) It's just so good. The writing is smart, and neither gives you too much unnecessary detail nor thinks you're an idiot. The occasional violence is a little cringe-worthy, but it's far deeper on the characters. The main characters are ALL very guarded, so there are all these intimate little scenes of these characters letting their guard down for a moment before it's back to work. IP: Logged |
