Positive feedback only, please. Thank you.

We presently have almost 9,000 unique visitors each day. It varies. It was recently 10,000! Most come from Google. I guess they are searching for something in particular, since LL is a vast storehouse of knowledge. How can we get some of them to sign up?

We also get a lot of registrations. How can we get more of them to post? Some don't even post till years later!

I think safety is the main thing. People have to know they will not be ridiculed, pushed aside or made to feel there is a cliche that does not include them.

Ami, give them all free readings, haha, surely a Gem can do 659 readings per day?

It is funny you say that, Gyps, because I have had many newcomer threads.

Some were super long, like over 300 posts.

I think one was 500 posts or so.

Faith can double check it for me

I had to close my longest thread a few months ago because I could not do a good enough job, due to not having the time to do it well.

Good lord Ami, your poor brain! I would be a complete nervous wreck trying to do that. It boggles the mind!

Lala, gypsies are awesome greeters! We can build campfires and dance around with tambourines, how fun is that!!

But seriously though, there are websites that I lurk on and have for years. What would compel me to actually join? .... hmmmm...
1. Easily navigated site
2. Friendly, welcoming peeps
3. A wealth of subject matter

As as I see it LL has all those things.
I guess I'm not much help today!!

I expect most just come for some specific research or are looking for an impersonal psychic reading so they have no reason to stay. (I suspect a few who wait so long to are actually "backups" that were created by someone already registered until they had need of them, typically after being banned or otherwise leaving in a huff.)

As for others, it's probably far more entertaining to watch than to participate. Think about it, if you're at a Jerry Springer show, would you rather be on stage like us or in the audience?

Though in all seriousness we do have plenty who are opinionated and/or knowledgeable and there are cliques here as well which can come off as intimidating (and these aren't necessarily bad things, mind you)...I've experienced this on other boards as well and one thing that helped some feel more comfortable was create "beginner friendly" boards (with BEGINNER emphasized). On such boards everyone had to be very careful how they spoke as such forums on the board were moderated much more heavily and criticism--the constructive kind only--has to be handled delicately as it's assumed the person is new and trying. This not only helped new people feel safer but also allowed those who wanted to be part of a clique to feel safer and supported to find "mentors" they could click with before leaving the kiddie pool of the beginner forums and into the deep end with everyone else.

No, G, I love it. There are a few activities which are pure joy to me and doing charts is one of them.

When I first started doing charts on here, in PR, I could be feeling down and unloved lol

After doing charts and sharing with people, I would feel so uplifted.

That feeling has never gone away

Ami you are very fortunate to have found something to do that you love this much.
Every interest I have that I've tried to make into a career ends up burning me out so much that I no longer wish to do it.

True Pixie Jane, about the research aspect. I'm just learning synastry in a serious way and Every Single Thing I've Googled has links to LL. So perhaps some folks get here via that route and are doing extra research in the forums.

I found this Site by googling Linda as I have all her books.

I lurked for quite awhile. I liked all the Knowledge I saw
here, so decided to register. I don't post much only because I don't have much to offer.

You know, Gypsee, I would never be doing this if I had not lost my son.

The Messianic Rabbi told me to throw away all my Astrology Books.

I did and it broke my heart.

After my son died, I didn't care what anyone said except for God.

One night, at 3 AM, a Voice told me to study Astrology.

I prayed for guidance for God's Will for 2 weeks and then when I felt a peace, I joined LL.

Most register and post when they feel ready. I found LL when I was researching something and "lurked" for a year before posting. Why? I felt a bit intimidated Didn't want to come across as "stupid" since so many were so knowledgeable and wise when it came to certain subjects but it eventually passed and I was received with quite a warm welcome.

That warm welcome went a long way and i felt comfortable asking ALL sorts of questions without anyone making me feel like they were silly.

Just to add to why I shared what I did. I would never have found my passion without the loss of my son.

It shook my world view to the core and I surrendered my life to God.

I truly would have done anything in which I felt He led me.

So, tragedy really brought me to my purpose.

I am not saying tragedy has to bring everyone but often, we need to have our life shaken in some way to let go of long held ways in which we view our lives imo

Ami that's such a sad story. I would never have survived it. Sometimes life makes no sense, often in fact. We just have to find meaning in it, that works for us and keeps us sane. It seems you've done that. I'm curious as to what transits you were having during that time?

Charm, the same here. I remember reading some astro stuff that sounded like another language! Everyone seemed so smart... had we had the beginner astro back then, that's definitely where I would have parked my butt.

I had a huge Pluto transit at that time, Gyps. I don't want to go back and look BUT I have never shared this on here.

I had a true vision of my son in Heaven. I did not realize it was a vision until I read about other people's visions.

I was at a conference on God. People were standing around me praying for me.

I was crying so hard. Then, I saw my son and he came down and touched my hand.

I reached up my hand to touch his hand and I did.

I asked me to stay but he couldn't. He turned and walked back.

What was funny was that he did not seem to know me.

It was like he was sent on a mission to someone he did not know.

I have had this same vision three times.

Another time, I saw him behind the gate to Heaven.

He was standing with several people, one of whom was my friend's father, who had just passed away.

I was reluctant to share these publicly because they sound crazy, maybe.

No, not crazy at all. A blessing in the face of terrible tragedy.

My pluto transit brought me the death of 4 very close family members, the beginning of my husband's affair with my best friend, and at the tail end of it, the death of my best friend. They are no joke.

I woke up thinking that I'm just going to have to accept that my confidence is shot, that every attempt I make to change my life for the better will be trashed, and that I'll now be anxious and depressed for the rest of my life - Pluto hasn't even squared my Chiron/Sun yet. I'm just tired. I have nothing left inside me after the past five years, that has that optimism to it like I used to. Although I guess I still have good karma left, because I got a recommendation from a woman who works at the health food store, for a doctor (allergist) who cured her reflux problem. So I might at least stop getting as sick as I have been.

I just had a dream that I was in town, somewhere, and giving Madonna flower essences to calm her down. Odd.

Re: the board. I've seen links posted here, from other boards where people are already situated. They may not have time for more than one board, or feel comfortable being so scattered. I found this place through Conscious Evolution (?) in 2002, as well as googling a specific aspect.

I know what that feels like, teasel.

As far as the reflux, I had it really badly about the time I came on here.

I was totally desperate. I did a number of things that seemed to be put in front of me, supernaturally.

One was Kombucha.

Another was raw food.

Another was massage. There is the valve point for the hiatal hernia on the scapula.

The massage therapist I have is such a gift. My Chiron conjuncts his Sun, exact lol

All these things have gotten me to the point that I am close to normal, unless I overeat or eat bad things.

I am REALLY hurting today. I ate too much white rice at a Chinese restaurant on Friday night and cottage cheese, last night.

I feel really bad lol

However, it will pass and I don't think I will eat either thing again.

I need to be a raw vegan, or close lol

I wouldn't take lurking as a bad sign- sometimes people need time to think about whether they want to join a public website, do not have the time to post frequently, want to browse to learn more, or want to build a better base of astrology before jumping in discussion.

The mods do a pretty good job of welcoming new people, but to take it a step further I think you could create a detailed "welcome email" that either yourself or one of the mods sends to help them navigate the site areas, how to post pictures, links, etc., and any other friendly level of engagement. Make them feel wanted and in need of your services- that is how you sell your product.

You could hire some of the mods to have access to the site's main email that way other people can share this job since no one could do it alone or have the time.

I also think that upgrading the site a little may attract new people and give them a greater incentive to post. Nothing wrong with the way it is now, but when you have a fixed mindset you limit your potential for growth. Having picture icons below usernames, getting "points" for posting, IM, like/rep button, email access (meaning you can request someone's email on here by pressing and button and they can approve/deny you), and timeout feature (if a poster is going HAM, just put them on a timeout lol- that is a good way to stop an escalating fight without the need to 'block' anyone).

Think about it: you get points for posting each time, and once you reach certain levels, you can go to a "rewards alley" or something like that and redeem your points for an icon, picture, different writing font, etc.

Maybe a Happy Birthday email for everyone- I know the threads work but that is based on who is friends with who and a lot of people go unnoticed.

I have more ideas, but that is dependent on whether you would actually read my email or not.
