There this person I constantly encounter on an almost daily basis, so I started casually talking to this person.

About a week later she says to me, I know you grew up with an older sister...I'm thinking how'd you know that?.

Her response was.."in my experience the macho guys are the ones who've grown up as the oldest".

I'm thinking oh... I didn't even think of that.

Since the majority of the users on Lindaland are female, what are your thoughts on males who have grown up with an older sister vs guys who have grown up either:

a)Without an older sister.
b)Grew up as the oldest with a younger sister.

Generally speaking, I think people are better off if they grow up with someone of the opposite gender as they tend to have more insight, which can prevent misunderstandings and make them more tolerant of the "peculiarities" of the other gender. (Yes, yes, I know many will talk of the hell and abuse their siblings put them through, that's just one of the reasons why I said "in general.")

I don't really much care one way or another if a guy's sister is younger or older. (I have wondered how a younger or older brother would've affected me. I did have an older cousin who was similar to an older brother, and he is on the macho side.) I do appreciate a guy who can respect me rather than seeing me as some little, fragile thing, but there are macho guys capable of doing that.

I suppose ideally a guy would have at least one older sister and one younger (and good relationships with both). I haven't really thought about it before.

No sister--just two younger brothers.

Yes I think there is usually a difference between men with sisters and men without sisters.

Not sure if it matters if the sister is older or younger.

The gender divide just doesn't seem as drastic when I'm talking to men who have sisters. (Usually.)

I have four brothers, and I think that shows as well.

I'm the oldest in my family. I do have an older half-sister on my mom's side of the family, but the first time we met was when I was 14 or 15 and I don't see her very often.

In my house, I'm the oldest but have a younger sister that's as tall as me . I can't say that I come off more macho, but I don't come off as being feminine. My sister acts like a boy though, so...
