The below link is about a girl aged 18 who was reported to have died via euthanasia. Apparently this is false, but she did die after not wanting to live anymore.

Last Tuesday evening, I was holding the hand of a very elderly and ill man who has asbestos, who told me he had been in pain all day and just wanted to die. He died Thursday morning.

It was bitter sweet.

I completely support Euthanasia and hope one day it is legal. Where there is no quality of life and constant pain and suffering, whats the point?

But and 18 year old girl wanting to die, even if this is untrue with her being euthanized is not something I agree with, ever.

I have had too many people say that if they were me they would kill themselves.
I see that attitude as problematic.
At what point is pain too much?
Morphine does not even help me much.
Yes too often in screaming agony.
But does that mean I need to just die?
I even die in my dream from pain.
Pain is no fun.
I just keep holding out for a new android body or a cure for some or all the dozens of rare things afflicting my body.
However;
I refuse to die in a hospital or a nursing home.
If either were my last options;
yes indeed I would choose death.

My computer is acting up;
so have not watched the video yet.
I wonder if she was in physical intractable agonies; or was she clinically depressed?

It's becoming more acceptable exit now it's legal in some places.

I have considered it myself as a way of bypassing age fragility.

This modern world doesn't make it easy for the aged.

….
TaurusVenusGirl. Thanks for the topic.

In 1973 there was a chilling sci-fi movie called Soylent Green. It takes place in the year 2022.

Some of those sci-fi writers from the early 20th centuries have elements of prophecy in them.

"This is the year 2022. Overcrowding, pollution, and resource depletion have reduced society's leaders to finding food for the teeming masses.
The answer is Soylent Green - an artificial nourishment whose actual ingredients are not known by the public."
~ quote YouTubeMovie notes.

What was Soylent Green?
People. .. It was made from people who had reached a certain elder age, the infirmed, or anyone 'not able to make it' in life.
In the story, individuals went to a building where they signed an agreement to be given a "cocktail" of drugs in order to die (and remove themselves from 'cost' to the society).
In exchange for agreeing to die, they were made comfortable in a bed.
The drugs would work death while they experienced a 20-minute panoramic big-screen video-music experience.
After death, their flesh bodies were given to a 'food-processing business' and turned into an edible, which was doled out by govt to the less-fortunate in a society that was low on food and resources.

Oh! *gallows humor* warning..
Practicing "vegans" in the crowd get to choose either the Blue or Yellow kibbles.
Color Green contained meat proteins from human bodies.
hmmm. Human bologna??

(topic) Sol's Euthanasia (scene from Soylent Green, 1973) [4:33] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOV8mBjHHYg

A couple decades ago I recall news articles that were pro-euthanasia for depressed (young!!) people that didn't want to live. They think that if 'nothing' can be done for them medically, then why live? *sad*

Imploringly, I say NO....
WAIT a while longer if you can hang in there, with support of friends and loved ones.

We are on the brink of soooo many medical advances. It's terrible when people die right-when so many breakthroughs are about to occur?

And then...
Will these advances be made available to ALL people, even if they cannot-afford it?

I recall news stories of couples and families who have committed "murder-suicides" because they don't have a way to make enough MONEY to meet their needs in a society (and world) of severely-unbalanced and unregulated capitalism.

Suicides have been UP under USA's current economy-boon for the already-rich.

When folks are working hard, and not able to support-self effectively, then all kinds of problems cascade FROM that point, creating ripple-effects.

"POVERTY" is the killer in society, at its roots.

Lexxi…
I have read about the suffering you go through. I 'feel' for you.

I am mad-as-hell at some of the stories of what has happened to you.

TaurusVenusGirl.. I would NOT vote for legalizing Euthanasia, based on the fact that we are having quantum MEDICAL discoveries.

Another reason I would NOT vote for the blanket legalization of euthanasia in the USA would be the chance that (inhumane) govt could take-advantage of this. Politicians could wedge the marginalized-groups in society that they consider a "cost center", and KILL/euthanize that group in order to "save tax-payers dollars"?

Already, I vehemently dislike how Seniors/Elders are being put in a weird-position of feeling "guilty" about having needs-- and of needing NOT to be a "burden" to their family, society, etc. That's sooo wrong.

Sassaqua-- You don't have a family that will care for you in when you are frail? Would they be abusive to you, that you wouldn't trust them??

Maybe this "modern world" needs to adopt more Compassion.

"Age of Aquarius" is supposedly the sign of the more-Evolved Human than the post-Piscean age?

The man pouring the Waters of Compassion out on Humanity.

I'm a Senior too.

#Give Your Seniors a *hug*

Thank you mirage29.
I have not posted the worse of it all affecting my existence,
Not going to post the worse here.
Would freak folks out to say the least.
Also very depressing/disturbing.
Sassaqua
I totally understand the need for a way to escape old age frailty and so forth.
Seriously
I could not go on without my spouse and nor could he without me. Both of us are physically disabled and surviving well below the poverty level.
There is no fall back for either of us;
no friends or family who could help or would want to help enough to allow one or both of us to live independently.
Neither one of us could live with any of them, or get put away in a home.
So yeah;
nowhere to go financially and psychologically;
if we became unable to live independently.
Voluntarily "leaving" would be our only choice.
We are not the only elderly disabled impoverished couple only out there with no back up
For now;
just taking life as it is; one moment at a time.
Maybe our fortunes will change for the better.
Who knows?Good luck to you.{{{hugs}}}

PS
An amusing play on words concerning fortunes.
What to do to become fortunate?
Eat the little fortune printed on the paper in the fortune cookie.
Fortune Ate.
LOL;
yeah terrible joke.

Hi Mirage and thanks for replying..

There are always times when I become vegetarian for a short while, things like if Soylent Green where real, I'd be on the blue and yellow kibble.

Seems like a movie to watch, but I find old movies move incredibly slow for my modern mind. I'm looking at you; Stanley Kubrick 2001: a space odyssey

I totally understand what you are saying and where you are coming from, however the man I mentioned, wanted to die. It was his request. The following night he asked if he was taking medications to prolong his life, and if he was, he wanted to cease taking them. I didn't come to that as he was dead the following morning.

I am not talking about people who want to live and should die as they are no longer economically part of the country's future but about having the choice, when you are old, frail and so sick that you cannot bathe yourself, feed yourself, do nothing but take medication just to exists and they personally request to die.

And what if there was a medical breakthrough.. Even when science has a cure or some kind of solution it takes years to get to the general population.

And yes the cost! People are dying in the USA because they cannot afford insulin!

The American "Health" care system is another topic!

HIV/AIDs is a pandemic. Although mainly in Africa. Do you think many natives from that Continent have access to anti-viral medication? Not unless Western medicine went to test their drugs on them. If they died in the process, it wouldn't matter. Then if it worked they would have to pay it, when they cannot even afford basics for survival. Not all of the continent live they way of course.

They now have strict laws that forbids this due to historic cases of drug testing on humans without informing them of what they are taking.

I am not too familiar with USA laws, but dont the old white men in politics decide what a woman can and can't do with their uterus? Aren't they trying to make abortion illegal. Those women don't want children, they have a right to choose what they want in their life or not. Who is anyone else to decide whats best for them?

What I am saying is, if a person wants to die, they choose to die, they request to die because they dont want to live anymore past a certain age, they are in pain, I totally believe that they should be given the choice to choose, just like the man I mentioned, wanted the choice to die.
