Lots of people said giving up FB and similar sites made them a lot happier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69Il1AHsT-c Reminds me of a comic: I learned to stay away for multiple reasons. It hasn't hurt me. The only reason I'd get FB is window dressing for a job since many expect you to have one, but even then it's a double edged sword as they tend to judge your content harshly, whether it's posting pix of yourself drinking beer or being obnoxious (you'd probably call it passionate) over politics which they'd see as toxic to the office. Even just spending too much money (showing off expensive foods and vacations) can make one appear either too rich or irresponsible/impulsive, in either case undependable. So I'd be very careful and not use it for its supposed purpose. (I have much deeper concerns about FB and the like that keep me away, though.) A lot of people are surprised, though. I don't see why, many people have little to nothing to do with social media and are just fine. Granted, there's a lot they miss, but much of that is fake news anyway so they're ironically better informed, and it also means less ads tailored specifically to your psychological weaknesses (as opposed to the general public or vague browser/buying habits). Maybe they wouldn't be the first to catch the local gossip, but is that so bad? Obviously, I'm not a Luddite and see value in the internet, but as those people discovered, it's important to control one's use of social media than let social media control you. ('Course the same can be said of so much else...) IP: Logged |

I enjoy FB, but I set everything to private. All you can see is the main pic.IP: Logged |

I've thought about it, but it's my main way of keeping in touch with people right now. I'm in touch with a number of former LL'ers there, and also a large group of people from a goal-setting site that shut down in 2014. I'm friends with close to fifty people from that site, and we still support each other in groups on FB. People send cards for Christmas, birthdays, or if someone is ill, or just in need of support (real cards, not over the internet). All of them are important to me.IP: Logged |

teasel Same here. However I only have 10 on mine; and might take it lower; keeping only mostly LLs. Also health wise for several reasons; I cannot be on the internet long.IP: Logged |

Giving up FB made a HUGE difference in my life. I can understand the urge to stay in touch, as I was in touch with quite a few of the LLer's that I care about. I still care about them! Teasel, Yin, MyVirgoMask, Raccole, Lexx, Melody, etc..But for me the bad outweighs the good. The environment felt so toxic after the 2016 election. Idc who votes for who, but to sit and fight about it seems ridiculous. People I've known 30+ years blocking and unfriending... to me that's just crazy. It's the INTERNET. So what if they like [Trump/Hillary/Dr.Suess] I promise you, if a huge crisis comes along, and you NEED one another, you'll forget politics. I learned this after last May's tornado that destroyed a huge portion of my neighborhood. If someone needs water, or food for their child, you won't care who they voted for. So why do people judge their own friends and family for differing opinions? Then there's the drama of people's every day lives. I have three grown children. I'm friends with a lot of their friends because these kids visited my house a lot, and I'm invested in them and their lives. Having said that, I just CAN'T with endless selfies, baby daddy drama, pray for me, etc etc. It was like emotional overload coming at me 24/7. Way too much for empaths who can't turn things off. Then there's that awful thing some of us do... that stalky eye balling your ex thing... [I'm pluto-y dont judge me] That doesn't make anyone feel good, ever. Does it?? In the worse part of my ex addiction I'd just refresh the page hoping to see if he added anything or interacted with anyone. I knew the profiles of the people he was talking to, and would constantly try and figure out the "story line" between the different people. Ugh. It's no wonder I always had headaches and felt depressed. I can't get in to my two FB accounts because I don't know the passwords and they are linked to an old phone and email accounts I no longer have. And I'm glad. Because when one of my kids wants to show me something on FB, and I have a bit of a scroll, I feel like I need a shower afterwards. I miss Myspace as well. At least you felt less exposed. Yes, Zuckerberg and some others bought IG awhile ago.I've heard talk that they might merge them together. If they do I probably will leave. But as of right now I still use the platform. I haven't gotten one rude or snarky comment since I've been on there, which was ... 2014. And that includes when I've posted or responded to others posts regarding politics. It's just a whole lot less hostile. Plus... it's more difficult for older folks to use. I love my family, but they can be bossy. And controlling. Also... judgmental and critical. So I don't have to censor my every post the way I did on FB. Or walk around on eggshells.. so to speak. IP: Logged |

I am so weary of misinformation and drama on fb and twitter. It't confounding how the crap is passed around like the gospel I wouldnt join for anything. ------------------ Partial truth~the seeds of wisdom~can be found in many places...The seeds of wisdom are contained in all scriptures ever written… especially in art, music, and poetry and, above all, in Nature.

I’ll take people like Heather Cox Richardson, over anyone on Breitbart. I don’t get into it on Facebook and Twitter, not much. I watched other people snarking at each other, and the occasional unfriending over “plandemic”. That kind of thing is also spread through email, text, message boards, YouTube, all of it. IP: Logged |
