I wasn't really into the Matrix movies. I'll have to watch them again, haven't seen them for years, but they have the same feeling to me, as the LOTR movies (that my sister loved). Those movies had some cute moments, but it's mostly a lot of fighting. I zone out.

I just started watching the Once Upon a Time series...I feel like there's a lot (probably subconscious) from mythic patterns described by others (that is subconsciously manifesting spiritual and human truths even if the writers are unaware of it) but I'll need to see a lot more and mull over it more. I am loving it in any case, though.

Oh, and there is a bit of a reincarnation theme whether they intend it or not...like the one who always did what his parents said in spite of his conscience in a faerie tale world then doing what the evil Mayor demanded in the modern world, until he finally found the strength of conscience to defy her without the aid of magic.

And tip on Cloud Atlas: it's long, but well worth watching in one sitting, at least on the first viewing. It's more than a movie, it's poetry that ties it all together easily missed if not watched in one sitting (and has a strong ouroboros theme that includes future lives even influencing past lives, though free will is also an important factor that ripples both backwards and forward through time). I'd think it would appeal to many here with its theme of reincarnation.

I most recently just got passed the Hansel and Gretal story in season 1.

But I've already seen the Wonderland spinoff. I'm hoping to find more lore to answer some questions I have about OUATIW. I liked Once Upon a Time up to season 3. I was patient for the payoffs, and they paid off until the Peter Pan arc (which I thought was going to lead into an American Horror Story worthy, at least almost, horror, but just got dropped way too fast making what I sat through patiently not worth it), but even the one good thing that I thought told a satisfying story was undone a couple of eps later.

After that it got progressively worse. Rather than putting an interesting spin on old faerie tales and Disney movies, they just sort of threw everything up there to see what would stick with fans. Even worse, they did major retcons or forgot what they did before so it didn't make sense and contradicted the lore and story in major ways without any explanation (not to be confused with character growth that was done well in the first 3 seasons). The stories or even the characters didn't matter, and I think the writers just lost interest and it was just a job to them for which they lost all passion for (the story had been told, but was so popular the suits ordered them to keep churning stories out for the money, and the writers had no choice but to do so).

I stoically stuck with it all through season 4, but at some point during season 5 I had to give it up as I was getting to dread watching it, and so I stopped in order to keep remembering how I loved the first 3 seasons that had a coherent and enthralling story with characters I still cared about. A show should know when to end...they can always do a spin off later once they've refreshed their creative juices and passion for the story.
