Last night there was a hijack of my computer!!

It's ALL SCREWED UP.
My FAVORITES are DISORGANIZED.

I had SUCH a delicate organized system of favorites, that I knew exactly 'how' to access very very quickly. Favorites that go BACK for YEARS!!!!

Right now, I'm GUESSING AT EVERYTHING.

I don't want my passwords revealed!!!
How the heck do they TAKE my private passwords and SAVE them every time going to usual websites. I don't WANT passwords saved!!! NEVER. That means that ANYONE can come onto THIS site and post as though it is ME.

I'm going to have to GET RID OF Yahoo and Yahoo mail.

I checked email notification on this.
But I'm going to have to DUMP yahoo...

I have had Yahoo since around 2003.
I have subscriptions, including payp.

Will have to shut out some important folks, that don't know I'm closing that account soon??????

WHY DO THEY do this!!!!
They think it's New and Improved?????
aw heck no.

NOT improved. It screwed things up.

*whimpers*

ummm. ---------------------------
I'm going to UNcheck the email notifications, just in case.

Not Notified, when this is bumped.

The only thread at LL that has
email notification to me{via.yah.m}
is this one in the Gardening Forum.

- http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/001152.html

===========================================
It was a thread I started, and WANTED to keep up with, but time got away.

Other threads of mine had email notification unhooked when LL went through her MASSIVE CHANGE last summer.

I don't usually start new threads.

Thanks to All!

I honestly don't know. Maybe they make these "upgrades" because they need to APPEAR important or be downsized. Or maybe they're trying to simplify everything by getting everyone "on the same page" where most people choose convenience over security (because nothing bad could never happen to them), so you're forced (at least greatly encouraged--there's usually a way to put things back to normal, probably because programmers don't want to saddled with the same crap as the techno-peasants) to go with the same choices as the majority.

Or maybe it's more diabolical, like hoping people make purchases in your name. I think billions were made by video game scams in which parents gave children their phones to play games on, and since the phones were set up with the credit card ready to go through, children were able--sometimes without even realizing what they were doing--to spend their parent's debit and credit cards to "unlock" game features in what is known as "pay to win" as opposed to "play to win." Given the state of the economy, it could be others are trying that now since greed trumps any other virtue in our society. People on Wall Street tend to work together well (even medical and insurance companies make deals together that show more cooperation than plenty of married couples).

If they insist on mobile devices, then my days on the internet are approaching their end. I do think in my last days, though I'm not sure where I'm going to spend them yet (got plenty of time to figure that out), I'm not even going to have a computer of any kind. I'm already planning on "downsizing" my internet usage in a lot of areas, and the first on the chopping block are those that demand mobile phones to text as a (very questionable) security feature.

Naturally, that's all part of the disposable society we live in where we constantly have to upgrade to keep up, and products are deliberately given less and less of a lifespan so they have to be replaced. I really do hope this aspect of our culture changes, and Covid might force such a change upon us as the greed as usual practices become unsustainable to the point that not even the government can keep bailing out the banks and other nasty critters that are the giant blood sucking ticks on this society than the sign of health many think they are.

Chrome has the option to never save a password.

That “reply to” thread thing, comes up for me when I google search. I don’t think anyone can post as you, it automatically fills in your name and password, if it’s saved.

Well, I use chrome.

There should be an option to “forget” any form information. I’ve done that accidentally before, and it was annoying.

Can you run the recovery option, that could take your computer back to the way it was yesterday?

Hi! Thanks for responses {{{ }}}

Been working on sorting through files. Trying to adjust to all this. Some websites on my favs went poof. Because I use those when I post here, I'll have a backdoor way to find urls, and be able to restore some things I use most. I'm glad I don't take shortcuts when leaving urls at LL.

I had folders of favs that were saved by types and the 'year' -- I'll purge some of those now, since their new format of favs bloat everything on the page. Used to be all in a neat tidy skinny vertical line, and only took up around an inch off side of the screen to look at.

Will try to work around this. Will watch youtubes on some things.

Happened to get a telephone call from folks I knew. Over the phone they were able to explain some things.

Yeah Teasel. Nice idea.. I think there are some things already at-work within this computer that's trying to remedy some things. Spooky to watch it. It's progressing.

I NEVER ask the computers to remember my logins. It asked me again if I wanted that convenience, and I said "never" -- but it keeps doing it. arggh .. I suppose they will "catch up" with it eventually.

PixieJane .. Love your kind of humor as usual, and I also detect some of the heaviness going on. I would actually very much miss you if you disappeared-- but you say you're taking your time. Hope you and your friend find what you're looking for.
.. I appreciated the content of each and every paragraph you wrote. *smh*

Gotta go right now.
Thanks for your advices and moral support.

Be careful and STAY Healthy

Thanks!
The changes keep morphing what we have.
My favs were a WRECK.. so.. I'm doing a huge purge now. The m.edge keeps closing down 'unexpectedly' .. ha. Maybe they don't like that I don't like what they did to the organization of my files.

Been going through saved electronic files too, renaming the ones I need to remember, and getting rid of online class teachers I really don't have an affinity for.

Rm can't find some of the things he used every day too! {He's not liking what happened, and wondered if he could get rid of this update-- but I said, they'll just keep it up. We really don't have control. They hijack.}

---

Big decision I need to make soon,---
is whether to DUMP my personal journals I've had for years..
If I don't have the room to access all my materials, and, since my income doesn't afford me to keep storage locker anymore {which is 'how' the bins were saved in the past}, then, maybe it's just time to DUMP stuff?

I have a bunch of astrology daily-work bins too, work from 2012 through 2016.. It was cool looking into some of those oldest binders I kept. So interesting to watch how 'learning' unfolded for me. Most young people aren't into deep research anymore. It was 'just for me' I guess..

I have bins of materials that an astrology beginner-teacher could have used in a class. While I was learning astrology, I was SOO Mindful on 'how' I was learning, and I thought, "this" will be useful some day.
Oh well!!! ~~ for datasluts, EVERYTHING is useful 'some day'. haha

I'm going to keep a few binders I have on history and astrology-- cycles. .. and just consider seriously chucking the rest.

I have some thumbdrives with back-up of older saves... I'll just clear them now.

Thanks for asking.
Sonics,, ugh.

------
8:38 pm

They WIPED OUT files I had on USA Chart, and politics.

I went to save something in those files, and they were GONE.

Like I had said, at beginning of the year I set up my 2020 Files for the year, and those were the FIRST ones I noticed missing.

Suspicious? .. *raises spock eyebrow*

Yup!.. it's screwed up!!

I always have an LL shortcut saved in FAVS. It "disappeared" with their update. Made a new one.

Clicked to come into LL just now,
and a message said I haven't visited here since May 4th!

Screwed up!

Went to my pain doc yesterday...
they have 3 medications listed on my electronic patient file that I've NEVER taken, and ONE that after a few days taking it-- (I was taken OFF because the side-effect was causing internal-organs to shut down in my body-- dangerous). It was supposed to have been deleted from files. TWO other times, the medical person said I was TAKING it. ... NO!!

I said, HOW can these errors keep happening?
They said they had NO idea.
What would happen if I was found unconscious, and a hospital was going by THESE records... My E-RECORDS have ERRORS.

The docs try to FIX it-- and I KNOW they have! However! The ERRORS keep returning.

In the American Health system,
this is potentially a "grave" LIMITATION of modern medicine relying only on ELECTRONIC Health Records. .. It's dangerously flawed. .. Even with primary doc, seems they have their own version of 'autocorrect'??? I 'specifically' have bad side-effect to "FISH", and shell-fish is totally Fine! It med-AUTOCORRECTED to change Fish to shellfish. .. grrrrrr

So, back to this computer--
Carefully saved files of FAVORITES have vanished.

Overnight, I keep seeing updates going through.
MORE things are changed.

It's a GOOD thing that I've been in the computer world for decades. When a change goes through, I can suddenly 'realize' that they have brought back features from early 2000s. I 'recognized' it.. and know how it works. .... Younger people might not!

Heh heh .. AGE does have its Advantages

{Place is sonically rocking today!!! I'm so sick it!!! It hurts.}

_________
Edited. Autocorrect makes mistakes again. I don't always catch it. I think it shows up AFTER I post.

Yes, basically it calmed down.
There were a couple more updates that came in,
and now it seems rested.

I LOST a bunch of my Favorites.
Makes me angry. Some of those files had a collection of urls for projects I was working on.
It's like, forget it ~now.

Thanks for the bump.

^ Yes, it could have!

More changes made a few days ago, to the way it sets up a document to print. So wild how I've had exposure and experience with various styles of personal computing, and I'll recognize features of 'the old' that they bring back into fashion.

The huge update changed the way Print operates. Gave me an ability to shrink a document by placing number in a box. 87% was 'perfect' for setting up an Astrodienst chart wheel to print. Two days ago, they 'removed' the ability to choose your own size and went back to sizes you really don't have control over, and have to chose the closest one.

What I don't like is inability to control font size of what I print.

One of these days I'll have to find a tutorial on this product-- thing is, they suddenly pop with an opportunity to do that, when I'm in the middle of doing something important.

I Love Youtube.
It's possible to find tutorials on many things, but you need two computers! One to listen, and one on working on your project!

I Shall Conquer This!

There have been the pro's and con's.
Con is that I've LOST folders of favs.

Pro
I LOVE the changes to the printer set-up.
I've got more control again!! yay.
Went from very limited choices, back to being able to more-closely set up margins and font sizes to what I want. They combined the old with the new. Since I was already experienced at the old, then this change is fabulous.

They even brought BACK the ability to choose a paragraph off a page and ONLY print the selection!! hurray. Limits the waste.

I use best-buy.

"Was this a good thing?"
I had no choice in the matter.

There are added features I have NO idea how to use them, or even what they're for.

I learn by serendipity!

My "patreon" account was fouled up years ago now.
Customer service sucked!!
And, I started getting scam-offers and LOADS of spam.
Some astrologers store their materials there.
I can't get into that venu.

I feel on edge of tight-frustration all the time.
Need to make an ipad Apple-account..?
Tried to do that a few years ago, and must have really messed something up-- wouldn't take.
Kept getting scary emails saying someone hacked my account.
. .
RECENTLY {last week},
I even got a "landline" phone call to WARN me that my Apple-account was hacked?

Getting phone calls from Sheriff Dept, from Soc Security, saying my Soc Sec was hacked. {NO way.. On TV news, there were warnings NOT to give out info on phone.}
Generally, I don't give my email address to doctors (etc), nor give my Obama texting-phone number out-- because of those things, and because of many ROBO calls. If there's no name/number I recognize, I don't answer.

I 'really' gotta get myself adopted by younger folks?

Thing is.. Some of the stuff I get into through astrology interest, can be too advanced for the ordinary person--

When I have a serendipity moment, it's like a "Quantum" leap. And ALL the computer experience I've had from the past even becomes the base of understanding some of the newer features.

Still-- there's a certain GAP of information/knowledge that's missing from what I know, that might seem to be the knot in my understanding.

I WOULD try to be brave and just hit keys and buttons to TRY to do things; HOWEVER!, if I "mess it up", there's no way to straighten it out-- Need Knowledgeable Human. I work around the things that I would 'know' how to repair.

{Too expensive to 'hire a Geek' support plan through local tech-store.}

{Local library USED TO help folks with learning TechDevices, but around 3 or 4 years ago they stopped having staff available for that.}
.. And wow, they are CLOSING more Library Branches in my county. The one I went to the most, is closing its doors end of this month. I feel sorry for kids and learners that don't have a good place to work FROM, and have weak or non-existent computer service to their place.
The McD's we visited once a week 'covered' their electric-sockets. Too many people would come in and USE the McD tables AS their Office!! ~~ Thing is, because of *those* person's greed to save rent-money for offices, it cheated the students who needed the connection for doing Homework.
Libraries had started limiting time to shorter blocks. Made it impossible to take in an 'entire' youtube study class.

I used to get a lot of those scam calls, too. They hijack numbers, and use them to try to scam everyone. I still get the occasional call, but the phone doesn't ring, because my iphone is set to only ring if someone in my contacts calls.

Your mom was called by someone representing themselves as being FBI?? .. haha. That's not new. Older people are favorite targets of scammers.

The other day I watched a youtube of a sheriff receiving a scam call. She was an older woman, and the sheriff. Was being scammed on her cell-phone, by men supposedly connected with the 'IRS'! Told her there were arrest warrants out on her, and they needed to know 'how many' bank accounts she owns, before Law Enforcement arrives there in one hour to pick her up. {She played them.. SHE was 'the law enforcement' that would have been sent to arrest!! LOL. They hung up.} I felt angry about that too!
