Fox News, which I don't watch but which nevertheless IS the number 1 network for cable news.

Which only goes to show how thoroughly CNN, MSNBC et al...have destroyed their brands by putting leftist dorks on the air to lie to America.

I think Node nailed the context of tv viewership quite well.

CNN and the lot make a much more concerted effort at balance than Fox does. Fox does well due to catering to a niche. The other channels are in real competition for the real news audience.

CNN, MSNBC and the other leftist press loons are vying for the leftovers.

Generally, those are the uninformed, the misinformed, the malinformed, the delusional and those whose intellects are so fogged up anything can be passed off as news.

Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, Maddow, King, Cooper and Wolf Blitzer deliver faux news to the delusional.

Generally, those very same people also believe Stephen Colbert is a source of hard news.

Btw, it takes 4 of the top 5 news shows on CNN and MSNBC to equal the audience of Bill O'Reilly...which only proves some of the delusional O'Bomber Kool-Aid drinkers are being cured of their delusions and tuning out.

i still think sponge bob has more astute commentary and cuter faces.

considering all the "deliberate dumbing down" you talk about jwhop, it is no surprise to me that the masses think FOX is NEWS just because it's called that! but then you gravitate to the english version of the enquirer for source material as well.

I didn't say anyone had been deliberately"dumbed down".

I believe the genetic pool which produces some freaky gene combinations is responsible for "dumbing down".

How else to explain the presence on earth of people like Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, Nancy Pee-Lousy, Harry Reid, Maxine Waters, Barney Frank, other Karl Marx disciples...and an army of O'Bomber Kool-Aid drinkers.

If....Darwin's Theory of Evolution and Natural Selection of genes of the fittest is true...and one of the tenets of leftist Darwinist thought is that these are true...then, it follows naturally that the genes of those mentioned would have been selected to be OUT of the human gene pool long ago. Something large with long claws and sharp teeth would have eaten their ancestors...or, their fellow humans would have killed them for their stupidity.

However, if Darwin's Theories are true, then man has overridden natures attempts to strenghten the human gene pool..and with disasterous results.

I wouldn't say that FoxNews is dumbed down, though it's certainly not the most intellectual of the news channels. Fox caters to people like Jwhop, who are anxious to have their emotions tapped. They live to be outraged. The other news channels are more antiseptic, and therefore more boring.

As to Fox's success, they satisfy a niche as I said before. The non-Fox-News-watching-public have a diverse variety of sources from which to pull news. I would still put any non-Fox-watcher against a Fox-watcher in a test of current events as Fox viewers consistently do poorly when tested on facts.

O'Reilly's interviews with General Wesley Clark, a decorated soldier with combat experience in Vietnam among other accolades in his resume. The two debated the Abu Ghraib prison scandal in which American guards had taken degrading pictures of the inmates in embarassing positions. Not surprisingly, O'Reilly dismissed the scandal by saying that Americans have always done things like that. Why that makes it OK and why he didn't just admit that he could care less because the victims have a different skin color than his own is still in question. O'Reilly proceeded to cite an example of American atrocities in World War II, claiming that in the Belgian city of Malmedy, American troops massacred unarmed and surrendering German SS troops. He made the claim more than once. In fact, it was the other way around. American troops surrendered to German troops, and the Germans executed the unarmed Americans, and left their bodies in crude graves to freeze. The evidence was found over a month later.

After A Few Tough Questions, Ann Coulter Walks Off Hannity & Colmes 06

Ann Coulter, who specializes in vitriol toward others, was so flustered by a few tough questions on Hannity & Colmes that she left the interview.

Kirsten Powers, substituting for Alan Colmes, pressed Coulter over remarks she made during the first of a two-part discussion on the effect of the war in Iraq in the upcoming elections. During that segment, Coulter let forth a stream of her trademark invective: “(Democrats) consider it unfair to talk about national security… What part of the war on terrorism do they support?... (Terrorists) would be much happier with the policies of the Democrats.” That part of the discussion is available on FOX News’ website.

After the break, Powers confronted Coulter on those accusations, starting with questions about why the Bush Administration hasn’t caught Osama bin Laden. Coulter was obviously flummoxed and gave the ridiculous answer that the war in Afghanistan is going so swimmingly that bin Laden has become irrelevant. From Coulter’s point of view, it went downhill from there. Powers, who has been criticized in the past for her ineptitude as a pundit, was in top form and refused to let Coulter off the hook. Powers continued pressing her case and Coulter soon crumbled. The woman who loves to dish it out, couldn’t take the heat. It’s worth noting that Powers never resorted to anything like the sort of diatribe Coulter doesn’t leave home without. Nevertheless, Coulter couldn’t finish the interview.

Glenn Beck

with fewer advertisers-- part of the fallout from calling President Barack Obama a racist. A total of 43 Fox advertisers, including Walmart, CVS Caremark, Clorox and Sprint, directed that their commercials not air.

My personal favorite is Hannity offering to be Water boarded (he never delivered) to support the claim that Water boarding is not torture.

CNN, MSNBC and other leftist news outlets could and should be characterized as "news in name only" for delusional Kool-Aid drinkers.

That's a shrinking market as fewer and fewer people are drinking the leftist Kool-Aid. The viewer audience numbers don't lie.

There will always be those intellectually deprived ones who are generally the 10% who never get the word. So, there will continue to be a market for news in name only for the delusional.

Whether delivering news in name only to the delusional will be profitable is a different question.

It doesn't even occur to you that the other networks viewership combined likely does exceed Fox's. It doesn't occur to you that Fox is the only Conservative-biased tv "news" network. How does that fact escape you? What part of monopoly on the Conservative news market don't you understand?

And like I said, you don't get the kind of sensationalism on the other networks that you do on Fox. Larry King isn't one to make emotional pleas. Nor is Wolf Blitzer. Olbermann is a knock-off caricature of people like Limbaugh and Hannity.

and from what i heard part of fox's success is down to rush limbaugh being delivered to any number of backwater stations FREE just to get a foot in the door. of course corporate, sindicated radio is more successful than more independent voices. it has more money to float it and push the others out!

and yes, you did talk about the deliberate and systematic dumbing-down of the population jwhop. public education, i remember was one of the "tools" used...

it is just too self-serving to justify being on the losing side by saying the whole world has become stupid! if they are so stupid how come you smart people can't beat em?

fox is extremely biased, to the point of not truthfully broadcasting news. the only thing you can believe from them is when they say a building caught on fire, and show footage. sometimes i send them email and ask t hem why they didn't resport so and such that happened...becasue it does **** me off sometimes.

ann coulter needs to be slapped silly and repeatedly.

cnn, larry king and o'reilly.....i can tolerate, but i seriously do get sleepy.
