i don't care who is in office, this sort of thing is criminal. and it is not being put forward by the left or right but by big business and those in their pay.

several of the worst measures that have been proposed in the last few years HAVE been altered and/or defeated. we need to stay vigilant...the "price of freedom" as my mother chanted from time to time throughout my childhood...

LAME DUCKS DON'T FLY HERE...
S.510 is Even Worse than We Thought!

Farmers and consumers alike stand united against the Bigs: Big Govt, Big AgBiz, Big Chema, Big Pharma, Big Finance and the rest… That is why hundreds of thousands of farmers, gardeners and natural food consumers have contacted decision makers demanding the defeat of the fake “food safety” bills like S.510, its criminal companion bill, S.3767 and the discredited (but still dangerous) fake dietary supplement “safety” bill, S.3002. And that PUSH BACK is why those bills are not law and may never become law… if we continue to PUSH BACK.

The Lame Duck Congress meets November 15, 2010. The Foundation does not take stands on candidates, but rather seeks to educate all decision makers, we do urge you to vote your conscience... make your voice heard on November 2nd and your voice will be remembered on November 15th!

S.510 is Worse than Even We Thought! http://www.healthfreedomusa.org/?p=7319

We have posted two hard-hitting articles from the Yup Farming blog that expose even more dangerous language from the fake "food safety" bills. Here is an excerpt from those articles:

"Leaked trade agreements and hidden things inside S 510:
Corporations plan to end normal farming."

"The Canadian Farmers Union wants the Canada-EU trade deal scrapped. Under provisions in CETA [Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement], using saved seed could result in a farmer’s land, equipment, and crops being seized for alleged infringement of intellectual property rights attached to plant varieties owned by corporations such as Monsanto, Dow, Syngenta, and Bayer. “It includes the freezing of bank accounts too, so you couldn’t even defend yourself in court. And this is for alleged infringement,” says NFU [National Farmers Union] president Terry Boehm. … “These are the most draconian measures possible and they would literally create a culture of fear in the farm population where, I think, that ultimately farmers would end up buying seeds every year for every acre just to avoid prosecution or the threat of prosecution...”

"Protecting the good things in life by stopping S 510"

"Ironically, there is much to be gained from the devastation of the US economy. Money has proved a false god. Others control it and buy democracy with it – courts, Congress, presidents, agencies. Corporate advertising wears thin. Is the new car model in the ad fun to drive past shuttered businesses and homeless people on the street? ..."

Thanks Kat.

When I opened the page a radio show started, I listened for awhile (the voice was familiar) then scrolled down to read the "about us" page.

General Albert Stubblebine. hummm that was familiar too, so I went on the hunt.

He and his wife, Dr. Laibow run the page, and are part of the CODEX fight. I still haven't found the time to read the salient points of S.510 let alone S 3767. I have read trusted sources decrying the Bill in no uncertain terms. That this is the globalization Bill of note, and a major domino in the chain.

I just tried to access govtrack.us and cannot open either Bill

trying again right now....page will not load.....maybe tonight? It will work.

it's actually looking like, too bad they pushed it back. if it had come up earlier the republicans would have just stonewalled it on principle. now that the corporate stooges have just won their seats they will be under huge pressure to see this through. thank god for my own particular congresswoman and senator,...

this just in...

quote:
Senate debate has begun on food safety legislation, reports Lyndsey Layton: "The Senate voted 74 to 25 to begin debate on the bill, suggesting the measure has strong bipartisan support and good prospects for passage. The House approved its version more than a year ago, and food safety advocates have been pushing the Senate to act so differences between the two measures can be reconciled and the legislation signed into law by President Obama by the end of the lame-duck session...Congress members, the Government Accountability Office, consumer groups and even the food industry have said the FDA lacks modern enforcement tools and adequate resources to keep the food supply safe."

~~~~~
"The measure also would give the FDA authority to recall food it suspects is tainted; now, it must rely on food companies to voluntarily recall products. And it would give the FDA access to internal records at farms and food production facilities.
The bill would set safety standards for imported foods, requiring importers to verify that products grown and processed overseas meet safety standards. Public health experts say this is urgently needed, given the increase in imported foods and that the FDA has been inspecting only about 1 percent of imported food products.
The bill would also require the FDA to regularly inspect farms and food processing facilities, something it does not currently do. Between fiscal 2004 and 2008, the FDA inspected fewer than half of the 51,229 facilities it regulates, according to a recent report by the inspector general of the Department of Health and Human Services. The FDA has said it does not have enough resources to conduct regular inspections.
One of the bill's most vocal critics, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.),
said the legislation, estimated to cost $1.4 billion over four years, will add to the budget deficit unless an equal amount can be saved through cuts elsewhere.
Although the bill has wide backing from groups representing consumers, public health advocates, major growers, food processors and retailers, it has revealed a deep rift between large farming corporations and the burgeoning local farming movement".
S 510 breezes through first step in the Senate
Thomas Lifson
Senate Bill 510, a massive power grab by government -- as explained to AT readers yesterday by Michael Geer -- passed its first test with the support of every Democrat and 14 Republicans.
Lyndsey Layton of the Washington Post reports:
"The Senate voted 74 to 25 to begin debate on the bill, suggesting the measure has strong bipartisan support and good prospects for passage. The House approved its version more than a year ago, and food safety advocates have been pushing the Senate to act so differences between the two measures can be reconciled and the legislation signed into law by President Obama by the end of the lame-duck session.
Here are the Republicans who voted to give sweeping powers over our food supply to our government masters.
Alexander (R-TN)
Barrasso (R-WY)
Collins (R-ME)
Corker (R-TN)
Enzi (R-WY)
Grassley (R-IA)
Gregg (R-NH)
Johanns (R-NE)
LeMieux (R-FL)
Lugar (R-IN)
Snowe (R-ME)
Thune (R-SD)
Vitter (R-LA)
Voinovich (R-OH)
It's all being done in the name of food safety, of course, and who is against that? Good intentions, don'cha know. The road to passage is paved with good intentions. Trust us, we're from the government, and don't worry that we'll use all that power irresponsibly.
so food is to be the new marijuana? okay to grow your own but don't give it to minors!!
still the threat to organic farming could be tweaked. seems like we probably already had enough oversight in place if a) someone actually did it? and b) not just necessarily to suit the biggest briber...
