in the hands of a moral people. This is our problem in the US,in a nutshell. To me, all our problems can be traced to this one maxim ------------------ Throw away your books and listen to your heart.Listen the closest when it hurts the most. I would agree. Democratic-republic is made of people, and if the people are unhealthy, the democracy will suck.IP: Logged |

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. quote: the hands of a moral people.
(altho, I agree on the basic undefined intent/premise) Morals are open to definition of specific groups/cultures/creeds/ religions et al so it is a slippery slope to try to define a democracy based on morals. ------------------ ~The Earth Laughs In Flowers~ ... Emerson IP: Logged |

one could just as easily say democracy can only work when the people are properly informed. perhaps their decisions would be more rational then. instead we have propaganda on both sides and people voting with their "shadows" instead of their best instincts.IP: Logged |
