So, the drooling O'Bomber morons at NBC are just following O'Bomber's lead in excluding God.

I recall O'Bomber excluding the words..."that they are endowed by their 'Creator' with certain inalienable rights" from his take on the Declaration of Independence.

Now, NBC is catching hell from viewers of their programing...and others; rightly so.

But, NBC is just expressing the Marxist view, the O'Bomber view, that God plays no part in the history or in the lives of Americans.

NBC and O'Bomber are both mistaken and a price will be paid for their attempts to cut God out of our historical documents and out of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Someone asleep at the switch? Nope! Even when NBC sportscasters apologized, they just couldn't bring themselves to say the words and never mentioned what was left out.

NBC dumps 'God' from Pledge of Allegiance

NBC golf commentators just apologized for a big oops that has people fired up all over the Internet.

In a patriotic, rah-rah-America video that opened NBC's coverage Sunday of the U.S. Open Golf Championship, the reading of the Pledge of Allegiance by a group of children in a classroom setting ommitted the phrase "under God."

This was the abbreviated version: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, with liberty and justice for all."

The kids can actually be heard reciting the pledge twice; the second version leaves out "under God" and "one nation," too.

Immediately, viewers cried foul, taking to Twitter and comment boards, calling NBC "scumbugs" and pledging to boycott the network.

Later, an NBC commentator apologized to viewers: "It was our intent to begin our coverage of this U.S. Open championship with a feature that captured the patriotism of our national championship being here in our nation's capital for the third time. Regrettably, a portion of the pledge of allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone and we'd like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it."

Notice, NBC apologized to "those of you who were offended by it".

If there's anyone in America who wasn't offended by the deliberate attempt to re-write the Pledge of Allegiance they probably would be much happier in another nation.

are you aware, madeira, that the phrase "under God" was only ADDED to the pledge in 1954?

also, an apology has been proffered so i wonder why the fuss in the first place?

just think, for 180 years we got along without those two words in the pledge! why were we not all fried in oil pre-inclusion?

Not me!

The fact is that Under God is part of the Pledge of Allegiance and NBC tried a re-write which blew up in their faces.

End of the story...except to say; there's absolutely no possible excuse for NBC that will suffice.

Nor, is there any possible excuse for O'Bomber leaving out..."that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights" from his little ditty on the Declaration of Independence.

Whatever their excuses, their real problem is that their leftist ideology trumps all...including common sense.

O'Bomber did it at least twice.

It's clear O'Bomber doesn't believe humans have inalienable rights endowed by God.

O'Bomber thinks rights come from government...which is the Marxist view. If government can grant "rights", then government can also take those "rights" away.

This Marxist view flies in the face of the Declaration of Independence and the "Bill of Rights".

Now, let's see what the Declaration of Independence really says about inalienable rights, where they come from and why governments are instituted in the first place.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."

What's true is that O'Bomber doesn't believe a word of this part of the Declaration of Independence...and he acts like he doesn't as well.

I'd trade O'Bomber for the most lowly freedom loving citizen of Cuba..or any other Socialist regime and consider that we got the better of the bargain.

that is a very LIBERAL translation (liberal here meaning generously expansive despite flaws!) of what he means..considering you have NO WAY of knowing what he really meant and have only his words to go by. and those words do not indicate HIS lack of belief in a creator, but your belief that one can only express such a belief in one prescribed way.

the fact is that one can take for granted that "the Creator" is what endows everything with everything it has. not just men with rights, but antelopes with speed, elephants with trunks, and amoebas with the ability to divide...

and not adding the WORDS "the Creator" does not imply one omitting God. many people these days see God in a different way than the traditional religions did, ie, the paternal bearded guy in the sky doesn't work for everyone. that doesn't mean spirituality is overriden by government, but that old conceptions mutate with time.

all your objection tells me is that if it isn't done (or worded) EXACTLY THE WAY YOU THINK IT SHOULD BE, you condemn it. this basically divisive attitude toward religion, politics and all human endeavours is what makes wars necessary. many of us believe that the time for fighting to the death has passed, because it will kill us all and make the planet uninhabitable.

i am basically christian but i see merit in all the religions. that doesn't mean i don't believe in a creative force, which you call God or The Creator. it just means i see it as even bigger than that bearded guy in the sky. i believe christ said "the kingdom of heaven is within" and not in lip service to religion.

love thy neighbour as thyself. does that mean kill him if he calls god allah and not jesus(or vice versa)?

I know what our dumb-ass, so called Constitutional Scholar said...and what he omitted..twice.

This guy is a real foul-ball who proves daily that he is not fit to serve anywhere in government and most certainly not as President of the United States.

Voter are getting ready to remedy the mistake made in 2008.

As for NBC, there is simply no excuse they can make for attempting to re-write the Pledge of Allegiance.

I expect that heads will roll at NBC over this.

NBC is no longer owned or run by O'Bomber supporters, General Electric and Jeffery Immelt.

NBC is now owned by Comcast.

When leftists...like those at NBC and The One, The Messiah O'Bomber screw up big time; other leftists want to declare their screw-ups...non-issues. Move on...nothing to see here!

The problem...for leftists...is that those royal screw-ups have a cumulative effect on American voters by putting the leftist agenda front and center and in the spotlight and, calling their credentials into dispute or ill repute.

O'Bomber...the Constitutional scholar and "most intelligent President in US history"...can't remember some of the most important words recorded in the Declaration of Independence.

NBC wants Americans to tune in to NBC but then slaps Americans in the face by re-writting the Pledge of Allegiance.

the problem is that pretty much nobody would notice those omissions unless you or someone of like mind were here to pounce on and publicize the life out of them...do you reference God as the power behind everything you do? how would you feel if every time you cooked a meal, your car started, you mixed a martini or looked at a sunset someone complained that you hadn't thanked god out loud? or do you do so? because it's not just our inalienable rights that come from the creator but everything. shall we get really petty and ridiculous about everything everyone says until they remember to pay lipservice nonstop?

i don't remember "head of church" or spirituality being part of the presidential job description.

"Can't remember" is not a rationally valid statement. Nothing in his paraphrasing suggests an issue with his memory. If I paraphrased a movie plotline, and left out things I remember having happened I don't have a memory issue.

You're delusional in thinking either NBC or the President will suffer as a result of these things you've reported. It's just not going to happen. Only people already biased against these entities will see anything within them.

i believe the "endowed by their Creator" was also an add-in to appease those who thought they were imperative, though jefferson would have left them out if left to himself there. even in the 18th century there were differences over how "essential" these words were.

The Pledge edit is exactly the sort of thing I would have caught. I'm always catching weird stuff that no one's paying attention to. I would have wondered if the pledge had been changed back to it's original. I personally kind of doubt that you'd have caught it. I would bet that you caught it on the blog circuit rather than on your own tv.

I would've missed Obama's omission, because there wasn't any implication that he was citing it verbatim. Nor does it matter, for the Declaration of Independence concedes that government must be instituted in order to attempt to secure these rights (which are obviously so easily taken). It's a rather moot point overall.

It's pretty darn difficult to catch something when you're not in proximity to it. I don't watch golf. Only having my word is quite sufficient. I don't see anyone else around here calling me a liar ever. Conversely, we have no declaration from you that you caught it, nor a defense for the suspicion that you'd have missed it had you been watching. You let the idea go that you did indeed find it whilst surfing the Conservative blogosphere.

Also, my point about the writers of the Declaration of Independence also NOT believing in the inalienable rights endowed us by a creator seems to have elluded you. They believed what you tributed Obama to believing: that government determines these rights.

inalienable means cannot be taken away. in other words government cannot give or remove said rights. leaving out "the creator" does not INSERT "government" in its place. however there are governments who believe they can give and take away said inalienable rights.

there are also governments where the head of state is also the head of religion - as in britain - but that does NOT apply to the USA. so whether or not the president even believes in GOD - jefferson was a little ambiguous on this point - is, as emitres pointed out, irrelevant.

what is relevant in the declaration is that those rights are INALIENABLE. meaning they can't be taken away. so, since our modern understanding of "men" includes women, coloured people, and to a large extent children (though we have a ways to go before we grant children THEIR inalienable rights) they now apply to EVERYONE, not just free white males as they did in the days of the Declaration.

THIS is more relevant than whether we pay lip service to an organized religion and conventional conception of "God". and AMEN to that!
