So, after O'Bomber shut down the Gulf of Mexico for oil production...and cost America over 200,000 good paying jobs, he followed up by nixing the XL Pipeline project and cost America at least another 2,000,000 good paying jobs.

Now, O'Bomber strikes again. This time O'Bomber has nixed a shale oil project in one of the most economically depressed areas in America, this time in Ohio.

Far from being The Jobs President, O'Bomber will go down in history as the Jobs Destroying President.

November 2012 can't come too soon!

GOP Senatorial candidate takes on Obama's efforts to kill off shale gas and oil-and jobs
Ed Lasky

Josh Mandel, Ohio's Treasurer, Iraqi War veteran (who voluntarily re-upped for a second mission), and Republican Senatorial candidate, takes on Barack Obama and his administration's efforts to stop development of Ohio's vast shale oil and gas reserves. The administration's Department of Agriculture has decided to "suspend" the auction of leases for oil and shale gas drilling on more than 3000 acres of federal land in one of the most economically depressed areas of Ohio.

Mandel writes in the Wall Street Journal:

You might be asking yourself: Why would Washington block drilling in Ohio at the same time that Ohio manufacturers are adding jobs to support the state's growing oil and gas exploration? Thousands of middle-class families and out-of-work Ohioans are asking that same question.

Perhaps the most accurate answer is found in a statement by the president of the Laborers' International Union of North America after the Obama administration's recent decision to delay the Keystone XL pipeline. "The administration chose to support environmentalists over jobs," Terry O'Sullivan said. "Job-killers win, American workers lose."

One might think that American anger with the Keystone decision would have made the White House avoid blocking more jobs. Yet, on Nov. 15, five days after it delayed Keystone, the administration again sided with radical special interests over blue-collar workers...

Adding to the public outrage here is the position taken by Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, who this week announced his support of the federal government's job-killing decision. Even though the vilification of Ohio's abundant coal, oil and gas disproportionately hurts jobs and energy prices here, Mr. Brown has chosen to side with Washington bureaucrats and fringe extremists in the attacks on our natural resources.

Readers of American Thinker will appreciate our respect for Mr. Mandel's views. Various authors on our site have been critical of the administration's efforts to derail development of our rich resources of shale gas and oil. One might peruse one of my columns on this topic: Cheap Natural gas and its Democratic Enemies for a primer on how Barack Obama and his allies are trying to thwart development of America's most promising resource. [b]Lately, his Environmental Protection Agency has thrown a roadblock in plans to tap our own domestic supplies of cheap energy. Whatever it takes seems to be the guiding principle of the administration and its allies in Congress -- including Sherrod Brown. Whatever it takes to make us more dependent on unstable and expensive sources of energy coming from overseas adversaries; not whatever it takes to increase American prosperity. A phalanx of government agencies (the Department of Interior, the EPA, The Department of Agriculture) has been unleashed to stop progress.

These actions are not only meant to cater to the environmental but also are geared towards artificially boosting the prospects of renewable energy while adding to the fortunes of those Democratic (and Barack Obama) @ donors who are behind these "green" ventures (among them, George Soros).

While these green special interests are served, the futures of those who would have been able to land high-paying jobs in the booming shale gas/new oil sector are ignored; they do not even appear to be on the radar screen of the administration. Of course, through the miracle of the multiplier effect, the boom would spread beyond the oil and gas workers themselves to include steel makers, machinery builders, retailers, restaurant workers, and all the ancillary business that would ride the wave of the boom. Furthermore, heating bills for consumers would fall, as they have for other regions that have been able to tap their shale resources. The state budgets would be replenished with revenues and taxes derived from the development.

The latest buzz word among Democrats is "income inequality." The jobs in the oil and gas sector are high-paying jobs with bright futures; these jobs would go a long way in helping to ameliorate income inequality. But as we have been reading recently, the Obama campaign seems to have all but written off blue-collar workers as not worth their time or energy to court. Instead, high profile campaign events feature hedge-fund managers, the glitterati who preen as being "green," and promoters of the range of renewable energy ventures that are failing with the same rapidity as they took taxpayer money in the last three years.

Josh Mandel is one of the most promising leaders in our political landscape. I first wrote about him for American Thinker back in 2008 and have been following his ascent for the past three years. The Weekly Standard had a superb article on Josh a few months ago (From Iraq to the Senate: Ohio State Treasurer Josh Mandel takes on Sherrod Brown) . As Kate Havard wrote, "Mandel looks maybe half of his 33 years, but he's already accomplished more in this decade-long career in public service than many politicians have in a lifetime". He has become a favorite of many Republicans around the nation and was recently endorsed by Senator Jim De Mint.

He has a lot more to accomplish in the years ahead and, hopefully, voters in Ohio will agree come November 6th.

the glee with which you look forward to a president who will say YES YES YES to FULL ON POISONING of the environment without any consideration of the cost to life on earth, jwhop, for the sake of money ...indicates to me that you have truly gone round the bend. there is not ONE, i repeat, NOT one republican hopeful candidate who is qualified to even consider such complex issues.

a couple of years into bush's term the unemployment rate was up to nearly what it is today! fancy that! such a winner couldn't figure out how to stop the BLEEDING OF JOBS. a couple of years more and they were still disappearing. but hey, we had money to burn for unaccounted wars and vast spying-on-the-citizens programs (very cheap i'm sure, the patriot act execution).

despite the JOB CREATING TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH, the jobs just kept disappearing. a true mystery to GW, though DC probably "got it" despite not caring in the least.

the important thing was to KEEP US SAFE, EVEN IF IT MEANT PUTTING EVERY LAST ONE OF US IN A STRAIT JACKET. and even though there is NO WAY ON EARTH TO GUARANTEE PERFECT SAFETY.

along comes the RED FROM HEAD TO TOE ALIEN (because his father was black and african but no disempowered "darkie") obama and suggests we might all have to get together to make viable health care for ALL an option. you know, take care of the TB carriers archer girl is so worried about at the OWS encampments! and did he really dare push for regulations that made the insurance companies liable to COVER US WHEN WE NEED IT? commie!

the fact that the jobs keep increasing and unemployment keeps going down - an inconvenient reality to your dogma. he's the enemy of american jobs, after all, the figures MUST be trash!

meanwhile, back in the senate, they are happy because the language regarding the detention of us citizens AT HOME - which made it legal for them to lock you up and throw away the key because you own guns and keep some food stored in your house - has been altered somewhat. never mind that this bill basically says we can run roughshod over other countries' sovereignty and legal systems to do what WE SUSPECT is the right thing.

yes, you certainly are saving us all from the devil himself.

"a couple of years into bush's term the unemployment rate was up to nearly what it is today!"...katatonic

Hahahahaha Is there anything at all you know anything at all about katatonic?

Coming out of the Clinton Recession, Bush kept unemployment under 6.4% and, it only hit 6.3% one month...in June, 2003.

See the monthly unemployment numbers 2001-2011 here.
http://data.bls.gov/pdq/SurveyOutputServlet?request_action=wh&graph_name=LN_cpsbref3

Being a fan of Marxist Math, you are always bound to get it wrong!

Lets see, is 6.3% less than O'Bomber's current 8.6% unemployment rate? Hint: Yes it is, Yes it is, Yes it is!

In fact, the lowest O'Bomber unemployment rate has never been a low as the highest unemployment rate under George W Bush!

You "might" also take a look at the chart and see just when unemployment began to take off again.

If you bother to do so, you'll find unemployment began to rise almost immediately with the election of demoscat majorities in the US House and US Senate...just like I've told you in the past!

Leftists are always lying about the so called jobless recovery under Bush.

This chart puts the lie to leftist bullshiiit. Notice the sharp increase in the numbers of employed Americans under Bush...right up until the demoscats took control of the US House and US Senate in January 2007.

In fact, the number of employed Americans is down about 7,000,000 from when demoscats took control of Congress...even with a rising population in the last 5 years.

demoscats are not the champions of working men and women. They're jobs destroyers.

this bill is death to your rights to due process. if not being subject to MILITARY prison is enough for you, just shrug it off.

This screeching, howling, moaning and shrieking over military detention of US citizens supposedly contained in S.1867 has already been shown to be a pile of very smelly horse shiiit.

There seems to be some people here who cannot read..or...cannot read with comprehension..or..simply don't give a rat's ass about the truth.

Text of S.1867, Section 1032 (b) 1&2

(b) Applicability to United States Citizens and Lawful Resident Aliens-

(1) UNITED STATES CITIZENS- The requirement to detain a person in military custody under this section does not extend to citizens of the United States.

(2) LAWFUL RESIDENT ALIENS- The requirement to detain a person in military custody under this section does not extend to a lawful resident alien of the United States on the basis of conduct taking place within the United States, except to the extent permitted by the Constitution of the United States.

that's right, MILITARY CUSTODY has been exempted. the rest stands as written and that means INDEFINITE DETENTION WITHOUT CHARGE OR TRIAL is still in the bill.

from now on, jwhop, you can say what you like about me, but if you think your handguns are going to protect you from the militarized police please think again.

perhaps you are old enough that you are willing to go down shooting. are your kids and grandchildren? please re read. the bill still denies due process to SUSPECTED TERRORISTS AND their "friends and associates". maybe you will take out a few cops. then you will DEFINITELY be considered a terrorist.

good luck with that.

Arrest and indefinite detention of US Citizens without trial cannot remain in any legislation in the United States.

That would violate the 5th, 6th and 14th Amendments to the US Constitution as well as
Article 1, Section 9 of the US Constitution..Writ of Habeas corpus which has it's roots anchored firmly in Common Law going all the way back to the Magna Carta in 1215!

I think what leftists are really screeching and howling about is the "indefinite detention" in military prisons of terrorist enemy combatants. Any enemy of America is a friend to leftists.

The screeching over detention of US Citizens...which is not authorized...is just a smoke screen.

Yeah, you could katatonic but talk is cheap!

I noticed this question you asked BearsArcher.

"tell me, will bear, (her husband), go along and follow orders if this becomes law?"

I would tend to believe a military officer attempting to give Bear an unlawful order of the kind you suggest...would have a serious and immediate problem.

If it ever comes down to an attempt to overthrow the Constitution, the government and the nation, you have chosen to libel 2 of the members here likely to do more than yip, yap and yammer about it! I believe there are others here as well...on both sides of the chromosome divide.

Canadian Prime Minister, Frustrated with Obamas Dithering, Will Travel to China to Seek Asian Markets for Their Oil
January 15 2012
Doug Brady

In a post last month, I noted that Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harpers patience with Obamas dithering over the Keystone Pipeline in order to pander to the rainbow and unicorn crowd that forms his political base wouldnt last forever. Harper, I wrote, fully understands what motivates Obama, and its not sound energy policy:

Harper looks at the Obama Administration and understands that they have no intention of ever increasing the supply of proven energy sources. With Obama and the far Left, of course, attempting to discern a logical reason for what amounts to economic suicide is a fools errand. Its not like the pipeline hasnt been studied for years, so Obamas excuse that more time is needed is ludicrous. The other objection, as far as I can tell, is that many Lefties think that the oil sands shouldnt be developed at all, as if stopping the Keystone Pipeline would achieve that result. It wont, regardless of what Obamas Hollywood brain trust says. The fact is that output from the Canadian Oil Sands will triple in the next 25 years. The only question is who will benefit from its development: Canada and the U.S. or Canada and China? For any president other than the current one, this would be nothing more than a rhetorical question.
At the time there were some on the left which claimed Harpers threat to abandon the Keystone project and sell Canadian oil to China was just political posturing or something. I didnt think so then, and I certainly dont think so now, as the Canadian Government recently announced the Prime Minister will be visiting China next month with the expressed purpose of selling oil to China via a new plan which involves the construcion of a pipeline to link the rich oil fields of Northern Alberta to British Columbia for shipment to China
, via Jim Fox:

Canada is now looking to Asian countries to market its abundance of oil, natural gas and minerals as plans to build the proposed Keystone XL pipeline have stalled with the U.S. administration.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper will travel to China next month to discuss selling Canadas bounty to the rapidly growing nation.

The preferred initial plan was to build the $7 billion Keystone pipeline to deliver Albertas oilsands crude to refineries in Texas on the Gulf of Mexico.

Harper reasoned that the U.S. government would prefer to deal with a friendly neighbor to help meet its energy needs while creating thousands of jobs.

With widespread opposition by U.S. environmentalists, the Obama administration has delayed its decision on whether to approve the project proposed by energy giant TransCanada Pipelines.

The new plan would market to China and Asian countries through the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline that would transport Albertas oil and natural gas to British Columbia for shipment by tankers.
Fantastic. With gasoline up 50 cents per gallon in the past year and expected to rise to $4.50 per gallon this summer, Obamas message to our friend and neighbor Canada is we dont need your stinkin oil. This, apparently, passes for energy policy in the Age of Obama.

funny then why do i hear that not only the gulf is open for more extraction, but that bp have won licenses for that very thing?

the XL pipeline will likely be held up IN CANADA by the vast numbers of citizens there who fear the side effects will not be worth the "cure". and the huge numbers of jobs predicted for that project will mostly NOT be american jobs, nor will there be anywhere near as many as the storytellers narrate...nor will this be american oil, but carted off by multinationals as soon as it reaches its destination in port.

any suggestion that we would get first dibs on it, that it was not going into the multinational pool, was political posturing on the part of those who want us to still think the oil we drill stays here! codswallop.

that is the percentage of it that does not end up contaminating the agricultural heart of the country.

america has a great many more jobs now than it did when obama was sworn in.

but waiting for the old jobs to come back is a futile exercise, something obama has the sense to see. we are in a watershed right now, and the old days are not coming back. far better to MAKE YOUR OWN, learn NEW skills and create new products.

and grow your own food. no longer are 80% of americans directly connected to a food source. and monsanto is trying to take over what is out there...not much comfort having a job if it doesn't bring home the bacon!

Why do you think Harper is bluffing shura?

It's a shorter distance...meaning a shorter..and cheaper pipeline from the tar sands fields in Canada to Vancouver than to Houston or refineries in Louisiana.

"funny then why do i hear that not only the gulf is open for more extraction, but that bp have won licenses for that very thing?"...katatonic

I guess if you're hearing that katatonic then, you're listening to the wrong people!

Obama Administration Blocking 103 Gulf Drilling Permits

As oil prices continue to climb, a backlog of more than 100 offshore drilling plans for the Gulf of Mexico are awaiting approval from the Obama administration, according to federal data.

The federal government has not approved a single new exploratory drilling plan in the Gulf of Mexico since lifting its deepwater drilling moratorium on Oct. 12. There are currently 103 plans awaiting review by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement.

"america has a great many more jobs now than it did when obama was sworn in."..katatonic

Sorry katatonic but if you don't mind, I'll take the word of the US government on this one...specifically the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Besides which, I've already shown you that statement is false!

That will be one of the first acts by a Republican President--to open drilling. If Obama stays in, expect $8.00 a gallon.
