Right-wing news site The Daily Caller has come up with an innovative new method of attracting people to sign up for their email updates: Each week through Election Day new registrants will be eligible to win a free handgun. And not just any handgun; the weapon in question is "engraved with the Bill of Rights."

The gun's manufacturer, Jim Pontillo, has attacked American progressives for supposedly seeking to promote communism in America and claimed that "people calling for secession" are not "fanatics who hate America" but are instead acting "in the Founding tradition."

This ad is currently running on the website's NRA-sponsored "Guns and Gear" page:

quote:

For many American citizens who embrace a political philosophy which swings left, collectivism, socialism, and ultimately communism is the idealist utopia they aspire to capture and promulgate across America. For these people, For My Kountry, means to ridicule excellence, to fear prosperity, and to blame others for individual failures.

It is an ideology which springs from mankind's weakest tenets...jealousy and envy. It is an ideology which attempts to tear all down to one low and "equal" or "fair" level. It is an ideology incapable of raising anyone or anything upward. Most of all, it is an ideology without any understanding of American culture or our American Founders' dream of creating a country free from government tyranny, open to individual initiative, and most important, insuring to all citizens those inalienable rights guaranteed to mankind by God.

This is a seriously WTF moment for me.

look at the inscription here

Dave Weigel:

So far, only the wags at Media Matters have explored beyond the stunt to find out more about Pontillo. He's the kind of gun manufacturer who likes to write Human Events columns about how Arizona's SB1070 was " a warning to a despotic administration that the American people are only going to tolerate a limited amount of assault on their sovereignty." But that was two years ago, and Pontillo, like most conservatives who talk this way, decided that winning the 2010 midterms was probably better than open rebellion. I showed Carlson the Arizona column, just to check. "A little rebellion once in a while isn't a bad thing," he said.

This aligns with the much-touted conservative belief that in the day and age where "liberals" are in charge, conservatives need their guns because otherwise their freedoms will die in the fire of liberal socialism. Yet, it's conservatives who are killing our freedoms with their assault on women, schools, libraries, and universities.

Remember when they wail about gun shortages that all they have to do is agree to receive right-wing pap in their inbox to have a chance to be one of the lucky rebels that can jam a gun in their pants and tell the rest of us what to do.

quote:
•"I can't imagine how much more insult the American people are willing to endure under the 'enterprises of ambition' by our politicians, but I do know, gun ownership and an understanding of our American Founders' vision will have positive and deliberate effect on the psyche of our populace and can subdue the overzealous and prejudicial effect of this ambition. When law is abused to achieve political ends where do the gallant citizens turn? Quite possibly to their guns." [Link]

pity these people have never bothered to READ the second amendment, which categorically defines the right to bear arms as part of men's responsibility to belong to a "well-regulated militia" and not to challenge the government whenever some blowhards whip them up.

on limbaugh's program there is now a company called "cheaper than dirt" exhorting people to EXERCISE their 2nd amendment rights and get a gun now while they're, well, cheaper than dirt (especially organic dirt).

and yet i sense desperation and a sense of impending failure in the fundy rightwing gun-toting crowd. off to practice my MMA.

Yeah, well the US Supreme Court and the US Constitution disagree with you gun grabbers and our empty headed so called constitutional scholar in the Oval Orifice.

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

Just because the Federal government established the National Guard, that doesn't do away with the right of the people to keep and bear arms...since the National Guard can be called up to serve the Federal government's dictates.

Guns in the hands of private citizens is to be the last line of defense against government tyranny and it is.

"Cheaper Than Dirt" is a relative term and while I applaud the idea, I don't buy guns from this firm.

I am heartened when I go to the indoor range and see that about a third of the shooters taking the course for a concealed carry permit are women. They're damned fine shooters too!

So, unless you've read the Federalist Papers which lay out the reasons for an armed citizenry, you're just blowing hot smelly gas through your lower orifice...like O'Bomber and the rest of the gun grabbers.

i doubt very much whether your artillery will defend you against what the govt have, jwhop, especially drones; i worry that you and people who think anger and narrowmindedness will save you are just going to get us all in a heap of trouble.

not only will you bring down on your OWN heads, but on t his country, much worse than what you fear. you are paranoid and hysterical when it comes to this president and that is not a good combination.

if might makes right you will go down and take a lot of people with you.
