"...in this Forum, we celebrate our cultural, national, and spiritual diversity as we each unite in Love and Light."

You don't say.

So that's what's going on here.

Right on!

Before this thread gets locked, let me just...

And now that you've seen GU you're ready for the Jerry Springer does philosophy (or what Jerry Springer would be like if everyone in the world had Libra sun, Aquarius moon, Mercury in either Virgo or Scorpio, Mars in Sag, and Leo ascendant) ep:

If Gene Rodenberry accurately saw the future then Obama will continue to be admired and reviled even centuries in the future as can be seen in this Star Trek scene here:

PixieJane, I've appreciated your intelligent and witty rebuttals in various places here at L-G.

Both admired AND reviled? What more could a leader hope for?

Personally, I have always thought that "Global Unity" is such a misleading name.

It should be named "Forum for conservatives where you can pretty much say what you want and have a free for all and fight a lot, no holds barred".

Or something more witty and concise.

It's like the Happy Fight Fight forum.

I mean, honestly, that's really what this section is like. I don't come on this section a lot, but every now and then, I check to see if maybe, just MAYBE, there really will be a thread more fitting to that name, and it just never happens .

There's just a lot of hate, anger, and rage there, which is why my Libra self avoids it most of the time.

Plus, I hate arguing politics most of the time. With only a few exceptions, I like people to respect each other, be civil, negotiate, find common ground, and compromise. I really hate vicious fighting in most cases. It just depresses me.

People disagree, it happens, but I don't like the way in which it is expressed. To me, unity would mean that you look for common ground and be civil. Fighting is just that--combative. Not unifying.

Yes, Regardes, I find no point in such bickering, either; but that's just the stage some people are at.

What is intriguing to me is that I had assumed when coming to this place that folks interested in such an alternative, "Aquarian" type of concept as astrology would be at a certain level of evolution. I don't know how to say that without sounding condescending.

As well, the rather unrestricted boards here allow people to post just about anything they want (free speech, as Ami said), so in my opinion we often get to see more primal levels of expression than we may experience at other, more refined or self-conscious sites. I have benefited from this freedom to express myself, as well.

One could perceive this as diversity, in a sense. ...Am I grasping at straws here?

This place continues to fascinate me.

Well, stick around, Jovian. Maybe, you will be able to individuate and express your own opinion

It's not that I don't like free speech; it's just that I do believe it's possible to say things courteously and still be honest. I don't really see the need for mud-slinging, nastiness, and fighting.

I really am one of those "can't we all just get along" kinds of people lol.

I mean, yeah, some conflict is unavoidable and healthy, but it's more of the tone--the outright viciousness and hateful tone--that I find upsetting and unpleasant, which, again, is why I rarely come to this sub-forum.

It's kind of pointless for liberals and moderates to come on GU, which is another reason why I stay away.

I just don't feel like there's any real point to bickering. It just creates a stalemate. Trying to be civil and find common ground at least offers the possibility of solutions.
