I studied Cognitive Dissonance. It is very interesting. I was fascinated with it, actually. I think one has to be open to some change, but one has to have core values, too. These are not mutually exclusive, in any way. If you think they are, you are being too black and white imo

As Nosi points out, wisdom is wisdom. It ain't "not wise" if it is wise. The problem with the above premise from Hanz, Franz and Lanz concerning belief, is it's a particular manifestation of belief which supports the epremise that holding beliefs is negative. Of course there are negative examples of belief. The issue is the painting the holding of beliefs which can be noble and exalted and can sometimes be the only thing to sustain the human psyche during times of extremis, for example, in the absence of any concrete knowledge that things will get better, the problem is the broad brush of negativity slathered across the concept of holding beliefs. Beliefs, "good" or "bad" come from the same core. The core of faith. The author makes a weak argument. He exalts knowledge. A frog has the knowledge when he sees a mosquito arrive within range of his potentially unfurled tongue that it is within his tongue's grasp. A human will take a leap of faith to achieve without knowing that they can. Animals will act, in preservation mode without knowledge of the eventual outcome, yet they don't normally act to improve and build on things out of "faith". They act on instinct and drive to do things as they've always done. Mankind strives to change things and oft times that is uncharted territory. The act of believing, in and of itself, is something to be proud of in that it allows us, as humans, to act, to build, to progress outside a guarantee, affadavit, or absolute certainty that our belief will result in an outcome that is solid, positive, or accepted.
