I don't mean to be trivial, but shouldn't the President be supporting American jobs by buying American branded merchandise, even though they are all really made in China?

I don't wear American watches nor drive American cars, but I'm not running for political office.

Look at the President's watch. It is a Swiss-made Omega Seamaster. It is the "Bond" watch worn by Pierce Brosnan. I like this watch very much and would buy one myself. But I'm not President.

This isn't entirely political. I'm tired of hypocrites from both parties. A couple of elections ago, Fred Thompson campaigned in Tennessee on the back of a Ford pickup truck ballyhooing about how people should buy American. Then, he was caught finishing the rally on the Ford pickup truck, and getting into his Lexus LS and going home. lol

When a person gets as high up as running for President, he is corrupt.

A non corrupt guy, like Ron Paul( even though I don't like many of his policies) would never get up that high.

It is about worse and worser. O'Bomber is worser times infinity

for all anyone knows someone gave him the watch, and honestly, most people wouldn't know it was swiss unless they were told. you don't even know if it was manufactured abroad...or are you familiar with every detail of this particular watch?

are you also aware that many "foreign" brands, like bmw, mercedes, and others, are actually manufactured here in the states?

Yes. I know Swiss watches and German cars intimately well.

I know which exact models, specifications and model years of BMW and Mercedes-benz vehicles that are manufactured in America. I have been to the BMW facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina and Mercedes-Benz factory at Vance, Alabama. I have a banking relationship with the US Presidents, US Chief Financial Officers and Treasurers of both companies. Above all, I know more that enough about German vehicles through personal ownership and an active hobby.

I have never been to the actual Omega factory but I have been to the Omega Museum in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. I am less of an Omega enthusiast than I am a enthusiast of two different Swiss brands, but I can categorically state that I know almost every bit of detail there is to know about the Omega Seamaster that the esteemed President wears. I own one Omega watch myself. President Obama's Omega Seamaster costs $3,450 retail.

During his time as US Senator, President Obama wore a TAG-Heuer Series 1500 dive watch. Technique de Avant-Garde is yet another Swiss brand. This watch costs $1,500 retail

Both Omega and TAG Heuer manufacture in Switzerland and Switzerland only. Even the discount Omega brand, Swatch, is manufactured in Switzerland with Japanese quartz movements.

Governor Romney wears a Nixon Reloj Private SS. This watch costs $115 on Amazon. It is made in China, for sure. But Nixon Inc. is an American domiciled corporation based in Encinitas, California with a US Federal Tax ID (I checked).

SO, WHO'S 1%, HUH? WHO WEARS THE $115 WATCH AND WHO WEARS THE OMEGA?

That shirt and tie are from Paul Frederick, a mail order catalog store. The shirt is off the rack and costs $50.

President Obama wears custom tailor shirt made by Georges de Paris, each costing $350. But this guy is at least American.

You picked the wrong guy to talk to about material goods. I'm not a heavy Capricorn for nothing.

I wear more expensive Swiss watches than the President, but I am not I running for public office, and neither do I throw stones while living in a glass house.

on the contrary, YTA, i think i picked the right guy. not a lot of people know that much about individual swiss watches and their manufacturers' whereabouts. thanks for the info.

however i don't think mitt romney having cheap taste is an asset, particularly, it just adds to the image of him as a hoarder.

and i reckon the president of the usa gets given a lot of presents.

and i also think most people looking at a picture of the president, mitt, or anyone else, are not looking at the manufacturers' label to see where they bought each and every doodad on their persons...

nor do i think they care if their candidates pick watches world-famous or bargain basement.

but thanks for the info. i will remember next time i nip over to switzerland or down 5th ave for a watch!

I was scratching my head at just what point the OP is trying to make here. Obviously the watch is a red herring.

In the back of my mind-- I'm remembering an autobiography where (remember I'm independent) a first lady was talking about the Republican Cloth Coat so I entered that, as a search, and come up with the Nixon Checkers Speech where he proudly proclaims no "Fur coat" for wife Pat, but a proper Repub cloth coat.

Anyone see the vids of back~ in the day~

when hand in hand (in bitter cold inauguration) Prez & wife walking down the Avenue? And the wife is in a wool coat.?

My point is, what does Romney usually sport on his wrist- and do we care? In the mood I would do a quick search of images from the past, to see what he normal wears, but it just isn't that important. Romney is Romney. We know what he has done, and will continue to do. Turning companies like houses, putting Americans out of work.

I could care less what watch people wear, but it appears that there are a number of people quite interested in the President's watch.

Apparently, the Secret Service gives out a watch:

It's probably this one in the debate photo, but I'm not a watch specialist, and I didn't watch the debate.

Yeah, Jorg Grey seems quite plausible:
http://www.upscalehype.com/tag/president-obamas-watch/

Jorg Gray 6500 Chronograh Watch ($325)

The commemorative Edition Jorg Gray 6500 Chronograph watch ($325) is now available to the public in both men and women sizes. President Obama has been photographed in numerous notable occasions with this watch on. In honor of these events, each watch comes engraved as pictured above. Comments have been made about the non-expensive price tag the watch comes with but Obama once again proves you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to achieve a classy look. For those who want to add this watch to your collection, I suggest you hurry because they could be gone before you can count 1, 2…

Just a small amount of research brought this up, namely "obama watch" in Google images. Only two planets in Capricorn here.

Another mention of this watch:

The Jorg Gray 6500 Chronograph worn by President Obama was given to him as a 46th birthday in August 2007 and he has been photographed wearing his watch on multiple historic occasions since. http://www.squidoo.com/mens-obama-watch?utm_source=google&utm_medium=imgre s&utm_campaign=framebuster

http://barackswatch.com/ So simple.
This site says that Citizen Watch Company, which is part of Citizen Holdings, manufactures the watch. That makes it Japanese. Jorg Gray confirms, "Movement High precision Japanese chronograph"

Wow. Jorg Gray's address is in my home town, Tustin, CA. That's where I grew up. http://www.jorggray.com/about

At this day in age, buying everything American is nearly impossible..
So, no, I wouldnt hold it against my president if he didnt buy 100% American.
