The Conjoined Twin
by me (maybe a year before I wrote the poem that follows)

"Please help me, I'm doomed!"

"What's wrong?"

"Tom beat me up again, and I know he's about to do worse!"

"The ******* !"

"So I went back to Ted."

"Why?"

"Because I need to be protected from Tom."

"But doesn't he beat you up, too?"

"Yeah, but not as bad as Tom. And Ted means well. Tom is just a vile ******* when he does it."

"That's funny, Julie just left Ted and went to Tom for the same reason."

"Oh, you can't trust her, she thinks Tom is better because she listens to too much Mush Limburger."

"But she said you like Ted better because you listen to too much Despair on the Air."

"She's such a lying witch! I mean I do listen to Despair on the Air but I make up my own mind."

"Funny, she says about the same thing, too."

"Whatever. Please help me get back with Ted."

"Why not accept that Ted and Tom both suck, and you just need to get away from both of them?"

"I can't do that! I need Ted to protect me from people who would beat me up and... are you laughing at me!?"

"What? Oh, um, no. Carry on."

"Yes, I don't want to be beaten up anymore."

"Um, have you noticed that Ted and Tom are conjoined twins connected to the same body?"

"What's that got to do with anything!?"

"Um, nothing...."

"If that's all the help you're gonna be, then don't say anything!"

"Mums the word."

---I trust I don't have to explain this metaphor...

Unfortunately, this poem still holds true (though perhaps I should phase the specific names out so as to not date it).

Dirty Pool
by me, 10-31-2003

There exists an ideological, fundamentalist paranoid facade
Hating either "Bushaphobes" or "The Anti-Clinton Brigade"
Always warning us that the other side is lying, cheating, and stealing
There's just no end to the evil, stupidity, and double dealing.

Exposing the corruption and lies in books and programs galore
But when the favor is returned, it's a wacko conspiracy to be sure
Like Freddy vs. Jason, neither side seems able to die
Their words are a web, and your mind is the fly

The motto of both can be summed up as "The sky is falling!"
So if you don't hate children, then answer when The Party comes calling
But how can they feel our pain
When our losses become their gain?
It just doesn't mater which side we choose
The merry-go-round doesn't stop, and we all lose.

And a side will rant how corruption and evil is rampant until their faction ascends
Why are the former abuses, now made worse, suddenly fine once their reign begins?
And why does a ranting person get worked up over mere figureheads of the "other" Party, like Bush and Gore?
But when it's time to "demand accountability" of their own Party, the morals and ethics go out the door?
While politicians, particularly of the 2 parties, are hypocrites pretending to live under a steeple
I have come to sadly see that such sycophants are appropriate representatives of "the People."

Great stuff.

'Wish I had been that aware back in 2003. I let myself get sucked into the whole neocon spiel. I was pro-war.

Once I realized I had been manipulated and lied to...once I realized exactly how cruel it was of me, to be pro-war (this was in 2007, when I woke up) my conscience bothered me like crazy for a few years.

It was a dark night of the soul for me, coming to terms with my heartlessness. So I feel like I can see why the pro-war crowd is so resistant to waking up...they might be sensing the guilty feelings in store for them, if they figure out that they were wrong.

Sorry if that sounds melodramatic. I can't seem to shake this heavy mood I'm in...transiting moon in Capricorn, maybe.
