The more i hear about the sequester, the more i wonder what is being pushed thru while they wave this red herring around...The debt ceiling is about HONORING already completed loans. The constitution insists that the nation's debts must always be honored..so how is this negotiable? why would obama negotiate on an issue that clearly put the republicans on the wrong side of the law of the land? The American people are held hostage by the politicans on this ugly merry go round of "fixing" the deficit/ budget. It is the joke of the century and Obama/Reid, Boehner are the circus stars. ------------------ We need to listen to our own song, and share it with others, but not force it on them. Earlier on, obama was on the money, explaining exactly why the debt ceiling is not about new debt but what congress have already spent, then he moved it overinto territory where the republicsns can take pot shots at his "grandstanding" .. makes no sense at all, politically or any other wayway. The party that os always posing as protectors of the constitution want to violate the 14th and no one is calling them on it.Seems they are almist begging people to see that they are really just a bunch of hot air balloons. Meanwhile no one talks about human dna in rice, the fact that the govt owns all patents to medicines made from csnnabis (that can cire almost everything!) IP: Logged |

And really pretty much anyone with sense now sees the whole thing as ridiculous...meanwhile if the debt ceiling is not amended it is not the cuts that will hurt so much but the collapse of the dollar will..IP: Logged |

Well, as I see it, it all goes back to the Federal Reserve which started a century ago. Everyone has been forced to deal with their manipulations and demands: the taxes, inflation, debt monetization and the moral hazard it engenders, boom/bust cycles, secrecy, all this horrible wrangling that people have been trained to regard as inevitable and even beneficial. Perhaps it has been temporarily beneficial in some respects, but by now everyone is aware of how frail our economy is...the house of cards will fall eventually and then we will see the true nature of the system more clearly. I agree with all of your comments. When, and if (prospects are not good) this turns around I will likely be dead. I do not see any politician turning it, I do however see a populace that is watching, but not doing. As long as the status quo remains-- our subservience to money-- nothing will change. IP: Logged |

now, if we were the size of iceland, some unified action could be taken. with a thousand times the population and much more territory, however, i think it can only happen here on local levels ...the states who have legalized marijuana, and more important perhaps, hemp, are now aiming at the federal level. there are bills up in the house and senate now to federally legalize the stuff. the fact that the govt has taken out the patent on medicinal uses could mean the feds intend to sit on that forever, or cash in when the tide is far enough advanced. no ONE politician can ever turn this enormous "ship of state" around, but piece by piece we the people can, and there ARE people in washington who actually are working on it. what most people don't realize is the sweeping measures and big bills don't really do as much as the stepping stones, which necessarily deal with smaller pieces of the puzzle...and eventually make a coherent picture (hopefully!). so talk of the sequester, which is not a good thing right now, and the debt limit, which it is illegal to hold hostage, truly distract, IMO, from the real nitty gritty of change on levels that matter. whether they are trying to distract us or are just distracted themselves? i dunno. the good thing about breakdown is it heralds a new era, and historically we have gone through this just about every 80 years since inception... Indeed . Money makes the world go around and money will be the death of society . Yes indeed. You should also know there are movements afoot to use the lobbying power of the collective purse to bring mcdonald's and their suppliers, and other companies too, to heel...oxfam, a british charity org, is being a notable force in helping this to happen. Also check out the many permutations of Occupy who are working - not in the streets but where it matters, to rebuild the fda, epa,etc into people and planet friendly orgs...can't copy links on my phone.. Okay, sorry, but i have been getting it bassackwards. If congress go thru with this and try to blame obama, they have a point, but only in that he made a gamble too far - that they would not trash the economy just to score points against him. I can't post the link but the reason this is so bad is that it is not 2% across the board, but certain programs are excluded so others have to be cut way more than that.As if, ian, you had to cut 2% of your budget but it all had to come out of your transport costs...resulting in your not being able to get tp work, shop or take your kids to school...resulting in hunger, loss of pay and IP: Logged |

...and your kids running amuck at home. The article is at stonekettle.com i will bring a link as soon as i get to a real computer... Also the propaganda that obama can pick and choose where the axe falls defies the definition of Sequester. And bob woodward is full of it. This time. IP: Logged |

I like that he takes it to the people rather than trying to play the same old backroom game. Now for some actual attempt on the part of congress to work together, and LISTEN to what people hopefully arr contacting them about!IP: Logged |

Oh dear he's confusing his fiction characters? How criminally dumb is that? And he is right, he is not a dictator. He can only do what the law allows. He can only spend the money that congress gives him. Dastardly! Despite what rush pushes, he clings to the job description! IP: Logged |
