The local music station that I listen to most is WPFW=Jazz & Justice

Other than CSPAN radio thats pretty much it, radio being what it is these days :

A few years ago lobbyists, aided and abetted by corporate media and their shills in congress- put forth a big push to not only de-fund public radio but their status in other programms. This is coming to a head as huge monopolies like ClearChannel wiki Communications push for legislation to defund public radios status. Everything is political in the end.

Clear Channel media group is an arm for FOX news channel list of stations-get ready to scroll it is huge.

WPFW is more than a radio station, it's standing in the DC area as one of the few places where you can not only hear native american music, jazz in all of it's forms, but be educated by programs, from Pacifica [which has been bankrupted] guests, and news.

Public Radio also depends on listener support. Money has to come from the listening base in order for them to stay on the air. I won't go into a long protracted discourse of what PFW is facing~ [they lost their lease] but many, many stations around the country are facing similar situations.

Support your local indi station. Have a listen to the provided link and share your station. That you love not only for it's but the provided community service.

oh, and did I mention that Bain Capitol took Clear Channel private a few years ago?

horizon rainbow over Paris, where many black American jazz players had to go.

lots of radio folk are going online. bigger audience less interference from the big guys. it seems that talk radio is not low enough brow for the men at top...the new fad is all about sports...

yes support your choice programs/stations for sure.

though randi rhodes claims that clear channel don't interfere with her the way, say, air america did, she also has a website to back her up if something goes wrong, again...she was trounced out of radio for saying the wrong thing awhile back and not willing to take that chance again.
