i deplore the wars we are in but i also recognize that being president doesn't mean one can just call everyone home and stop it.

You can bet you wouldn't be so accomodating of another President authorizing the killing of children with drones. You seem to make excuses no matter what the behavior, if it is Obama.

You seem to deflect from the point. If Obama says it, it's gospel to you. Even when he promises to veto indefinite detainment and reneges on that promise, you make lame excuses for him. A man of character keeps his word. So what if it passes anyway? He would have taken the stand he promised to. Truth is, he was supportive of the measure. Truth is, he supports the drone program. Truth is, he supports killing Americans whom he suspects are terrorists, with no trial. Truth is, he supports GITMO. If he supports indefinite detainment, you have to put them somewhere.
