I remain extremely concerned with the lack of quality proper paying jobs. I know families from the entire wealth spectrum that are out of work.

I'm tired of the blame game. The bottom line is families without proper jobs suffer considerably. Heck, I know a laid off ***physician*** (from a private practice with no hospital jobs available). There is even a laid off ***church minister*** (working for free but unable to feed himself).

Anyone has any viable ideas ?

Today is May Day. This means more protests across the nation, especially here in NYC. Tax the rich, tax the banks and cut CEO pay for the sake of the 99% is all good but a whole lot of talk about nothing. For the last three years, nothing has been achieved. There are no tangible results.

I don't know what my brain f4rt was this morning but it is a glorious sunny day in NYC and I decided to drive in. I had my top down, which was yet another mistake. A group of OWS guys tried to egg me, but I saw them first and they couldn't get me because I took evasive action, and my exhaust gets loud when I floor it. And two NYPD cruisers swooped in and cornered them. Hopefully they just got tickets and nothing else because I didn't stick around to find out. In a way, I feel bad for them, but I also don't because they tried to egg me. Anyway, these guys need jobs. And not making coffee or burgers. How do we help them?

yes the blame game is a waste of time, ian.

people get creative when the chips are down. whether that is starting community gardens, local infrastructure repair, soup kitchens or communal living, there are many ways to stretch the not so almighty dollar.

and of course there will always be those who choose to "egg" others (or stone them, or accuse them of being THE culprit) and the rest of us for the most part need to practice aikido, let them do themselves injury when we get out of the way or use their attack against them.

we are in a very strong position really, because we know things can be better. some countries have walked on their lower classes so long people don't know there are better options. some are in open revolt. but as long as we wait for the government to do what we need, we are stuck.

once upon a time there was no money and no boss. how did people survive that??

The not-so-hilarious part is that those guys were not using their brains. All they had to do was to pretend to and not throw the eggs. I would have gotten at least two driving tickets.

There are a lot of factors that help people work.

I agree that the talking has amounted to little in practicality, but it is good for people to know that income inequality is a negative indicator for the overall economy.

Ideas for getting people to work:

1. Spend
Whether it's microloans, or crowd-funding, or infrastructure projects, or good old-fashioned innovation...moves to spend on all of these things would provide jobs.

2. Consume
And jobs, of course, would lend to consumption, which would bring us full circle.

Politically, it would be helpful for people to buy in to optimism. I don't know when we're going to find a leader that can sell it.

People on the top, with the most money, can't come close to spending it in the amounts that would be necessary to be considered a consumer boom. People on the bottom would spend the money in a heartbeat, if only they had it to begin with. How ever one could accomplish getting more money into the hands of people on the bottom, that would be the way to bring back the economy. Perhaps the Fed should purchase consumer debt instead of securities.

Rush just talked about this. Government can grow OR private enterprise can grow but not both. The Government does little but take people's money and distribute it. It does some essential services but these are a small, small, small fraction of it's budget. The rest of the time, the government takes people's money for it's needs which are mainly to keep it's bloated self alive.

You do not use common sense. Once in a while, you come up with a good nut but your compass is stuck on due South

People use their talents and make money. the government produces nothing. Hence, it has no money but from the sweat of the individual.

The Government prints it as a tool for commerce but the Government MAKES no money, in terms of it's usage. It TAKES money from people who use it as a tool for exchange of services and products.

If the government destroys commerce, which Obama is, there will be the government class which is small and rich and the rest of us who live at a substandard level.

That is what Obama wants, as he really is too stupid to realize what he is doing. I have realized that from watching him. He has never had the simplest business, not a hot dog stand or anything of any nature. He thinks like an idiot and the rest of us who know something are being transported down this tidal wave of hell from both the low information voter and the idiots who don't know what they are even doing.

Smart people are realizing what is going on and standing up like Donald Trump and Sarah Palin, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and others but we shall see if there will be a way to defeat Obama.

He needs to be impeached.

Unless Obama is impeached I think we won't stop the tidal wave to hell. When it is over, even people like you will regret it.

somehow i doubt it. you can quake in your boots for both of us, K? i don't suppose you looked at my link, did you? while i don't agree with the whole vision expressed there there is a lot of food for thought (pun included for those who do read it).

i have had a death in the family and the perspective such events tend to enhance make your worries seem even pettier than usual ami. by your own admission you are in the position of not having to profit from your business.

i doubt you could name an impeachable offense obama has committed. or even know what the impeachment process entails.

now where did i put my handbasket?

False. Generally, when one grows, the other grows as well. If private enterprise grows, then tax revenues grow. If government spending grows, then private enterprise gets more work, and should be able to grow.

That's an overly simplistic way of looking at a necessary component of civilized life.

YOU don't know anything particularly special, Ami. Not about business or commerce. You only think you do, because you listen to other folks that also think they do.

These aren't particularly smart people. I can personally think of instances of all but one of these people being obviously stupid. (The one hold out is a person I'm not that familiar with.)

The job out look still stinks.

I don`t know enough about high finance to offer a solid opinion of how to create jobs but we need to get it done.

But seriously, my two closest friends have small businesses. One is a general contractor and one has a lawn business.

The government cripples them at every turn. It is the rare business that can survive with all this.

Now, with Obamacare, the squeeze is mega tons worse
