Some Disabled Goodwill Workers Earn As Little As 22 Cents An Hour As Execs Earn Six Figures: Report quote: Goodwill is paying some of its disabled workers just 22 cents an hour, while the charity’s executives make six figure salaries. A labor law loophole enables the practice. Some Pennsylvania Goodwill workers who are disabled made as little as 22, 38 and 41 cents per hour in 2011, according to Labor Department documents reviewed by NBC News. That’s because a 1938 law, called the Special Wage Certificate Program, aimed at encouraging employers to hire disabled workers, allows charities and companies to get special certificates from the Department of Labor that permits them to pay disabled workers based on their abilities, with no minimum.
Seems this little loophole is being abused and by a charity. It may have been viable in 1938 but this law needs redacted asap. These people do their best, have bills to pay and are hard working citizens... how dare a loophole disqualify them from an honest days pay for their honest effort. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/21/goodwill-workers-disabilities-low-wage_ n_3478013.html ------------------ Christian, Jew, Muslim, Shaman, Zoroastrian, stone, ground, mountain, river, each has a secret way of being with the Mystery, unique and not to be judged. I clearly don`t understand it`s purpose in this era. Maybe in the depression it worked, but now 22 cents an hour is horrid and unjustifiable.------------------ Christian, Jew, Muslim, Shaman, Zoroastrian, stone, ground, mountain, river, each has a secret way of being with the Mystery, unique and not to be judged.
