"Don't come lecturing us about liberty. You need a reality check. Don't act like a spoiled rude child. Here you will only find dignity and sovereignty. Here we haven't invaded anyone. Here we don't torture like in Guantanamo. Here we don't have drones killing alleged terrorist without any due trial, killing also the women and children of those supposed terrorists. So don't come lecturing us about life, law, dignity, or liberty. You don't have the moral right to do so."

- Rafael Corre

Rafael Correa* not Corre

(i'll delete this part when you edit your post lol)

But he was saying that about the US ambassador to Ecuador, and what the latter had said earlier this week about claimed 'lack' of press freedom in Ecuador,

and the 'All of South America is our colony' kind of attitude some US officials still have till today for some reason.....

Thank you jft!

Actually I couldn`t find a reputable source that said it. I found these :
godlikeproductions, therealnews, myfloatingworlds. etal. Seriously, these claim to be news sources
If you have a legit source, share?

Hi JuniperB! you are right, and oh god, who still quotes these 'sources' lol.

what happened is the US ambssador to Ecuador did something so tactless and disrespectful back in May and these are the two legit English speaking sources i found for you about it.

Correa has strong opinions (a president should, and that is how he's probably the only president who saved his country from the world bank a few years go)
but he's also a top notch diplomat, and even when angry always starts his talks with how much he actually loves the US as that is where he got his education from, but just wants the sovereignty of his country to be respected, so he's really careful with what he says usually...okay now the sources with examples of what i said...

President of Ecuador: Reprimand was for tactlessness of the US Ambassador

quote:
We also support freedom of speech and the defense of human rights. One must remember that the ambassador (Adam Namm) had the nerve to say that Washington is worried for freedom of speech. I am also worried for (the base of) Guantanamo, for (the soldier Bradley) Manning (who provided information to Wikileaks), but we are not going to be so inconsiderate that our ambassador in the United States says it, out of respect to the country that hosts him,” expressed the Head of State

More interestingly from here lol
Ecuador reprimands the US ambassador for participating in a political act against the government

quote:
In his Saturday report, President Correa utilized another phrase from Jefferson: “Today you cannot believe anything written in newspapers (…) A man who never looks in a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them.”

and i see he's still Corre....like the Russian president was Outin the other day lol.

Funny to see the right all over this quote. Correa is a self proclaimed socialist, as far left as they come. When his good friend Chavez, God rest his soul, compared Bush to Satan, it was Correa who added that this was unfair to the devil. He was "talking the truth" then too, yes?

He's an interesting guy. Smarter than Chavez.

hmmm ironic how ppl go on about what was 'said' ignoring what had been done....

there is a 'magic' phrase in South America "Operation Condor"... and along with its link to US's worst kept secret there, "the school of the Americans," then no surprises at all what many of these people say....the surprise is they haven't said it earlier.

there are pseudo leftists all over South America...but yes Correa is a smart man, and i like how some people have an issue with any leader from the 'backyard' which shows some spine and brains without the madness of Chavez.

but poor Bush, am sure his feelings must have been hurt, those bad bad South Americans.
