Phrases you could do without:

  • Shovel ready
  • Boots on the ground
  • At the end of the day
  • Good thing / Bad thing [as if everything is black ~ or ~white.

Tom Kludt – October 30, 2013, 8:40 AM EDT13467 http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/jon-stewart-tears-cnn-apart -for-good-thing-or-bad-thing-reporting-video

for non vid players:

---------------------
Jon Stewart unleashed several blows Tuesday on his favorite cable news punching bag, savaging CNN for shifting from a "simplistic, partisan worldview to a simplisticier one."

The "Daily Show" crew mocked CNN's tendency to view stories through a black-and-white prism, cycling through clips of the network's anchors posing some variation of a maddeningly glib question: "Is it a good thing or a bad thing?"

"Good thing or bad thing?" Stewart mocked. "Let's go to our analyst, Flippy The Coin."

And although he noted that the question "extends across the network," Stewart especially marveled at Wolf Blitzer, whose commitment to the good vs. bad style of reporting forced even Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) to "dumb it down."

If this thread has legs

I'll post some more faves.
Currently, we have an Obama this, Obama that, thing going on....

I saw that bit. It was good.

It is kind of surprising that they'd go for distilling things down like that, but perhaps they've found it useful in getting people to be more precise in what they're saying. It does suggest an exclusion of nuance, but any good nuanced answer-giver isn't going to play by those rules.

I don't think it's surprising at all, especially to distill to the sound bite.

Though the majors have 24hrs to fill, that same sound bite [seemingly] has hourly airplay for a hot topic.
Those looking for a nuanced reply usually have to read it.

I think the alphabets lack respect for their own viewers.

As for experience in the medium, I've seen many who get railroaded [so have you] till the O'Reilly's and Matthew's/ Carleson's get what they want.
