Poll: Voters say ideal candidate would change Obama's policies
Rick Moran

Who would be the ideal candidate that voters want to see run for president? A new CNN/ORC poll reveals some surprising results. At bottom, a majority of voters want to see a "non-Obama" run and win.

A new CNN/ORC poll finds most Americans say they would like a candidate who's a seasoned political leader, someone with an executive background, and someone who's willing to change Barack Obama's policies.

Rather than assessing the traits of individual candidates, the poll asked respondents to think about their perfect candidate and choose between two statements relating to several different traits often found in presidential candidates.

Would the perfect successor to Obama be someone with ideological purity or someone who had a great chance at winning? Someone who has had economic success or someone who's never been wealthy? Someone who relies on their religious views to guide policy or someone who believes religion should have no place in government?

Three statements generated wide-reaching support. Fifty-nine percent of Americans say they'd like a candidate who has been in the public eye as a political leader for many years over one who's new to the political scene. Further, 59% say they prefer a candidate with executive experience over one who's worked as a legislator, and 57% say their perfect Obama successor would change most of the policies enacted by Obama's administration.

A long history in the political limelight is appealing to a broad swath of Americans, with majorities across age, race and education lines saying they prefer someone who's been in the public eye as a political leader for many years.

There is a partisan tinge to the results of this question, however, with Democrats, who will choose from a field, in which, the leading contender for their party's presidential nomination has decades in the public eye, more apt to prefer a seasoned leader (77%) than Republicans (51%). On the GOP side, 46% say they would rather see someone who is new to the political scene take the White House in 2016, and their party's field includes several contenders who fit that bill.

Overall, 57% say their perfect Obama successor would change most of the policies of the Obama administration, while 41% prefer that the next president continue most of his policies. Republicans are near unanimous in their search for a change in most of Obama's policies, 94% want that. Among Democrats, 22% are looking for changes, 77% would prefer Obama's policies to remain in place.

Even with the partisan divide, a majority of independents would also like to see an un-Obama president. Of course, this plays right into the GOP wheelhouse because their candidate will almost certainly have more experience than Obama had when he ran for president. And every potential Republican candidate to date has promised to overturn most of Obama's policies.

The name recognition issue is the only thing that plays well for Democrats. But what will Hillary have to say once voters get by the idea that she would be the first woman president? Once the spotlight falls on her, she is liable to be struck dumb because 1) she doesn't have much of a record; and 2) she hasn't had a new idea in 20 years. In the end, that name recognition may be her undoing as people will be expecting a lot more than she can possibly give them.

WEAK data:

This sample includes 605 interviews among landline respondents and 404
interviews among cell phone respondents.

That is definitely not reflective of the general US population. It also lacks any sort of external validity, you would need at least 5,000 respondents to ensure the statistical standard of error could be corrected for and negate population bias.

"A total of 1,009 adults were interviewed by telephone nationwide by live interviewers calling both landline and cell phones. Among the entire sample, 28% described themselves as Democrats, 24% described themselves as Republicans, and 48% described themselves as Independents or members of another party
All respondents were asked questions concerning basic demographics, and the entire sample was weighted to reflect national Census figures for gender, race, age, education, region of country, and telephone usage."

Actually, the polling sample was weighted against republicans and in favor of demoscats. The poll was taken by left wingers CNN and ORC pollsters.

So, the results of the poll are even more striking. Had an equal number of republicans been polled, the results would have been even more UN-O'Bomber!

The results of this poll are certainly not good news for the most corrupt woman in America...Hillary and/or the Faux Indian Princess Elizabeth Warren who has traded on her Faux Indian bloodline for jobs and promotions.

Anyone having problems with the results or methodology of this poll should take it up with the Clinton News Network..CNN or ORC.

You realize you just proved my point? Why report a study that has highly flawed evidence, it invalidates the point you are trying to make here.

The results are not statistically strong enough because of the population size. You have to do too much adjustment and correction, leading to a very biased result. Self-report data, by the way, has horrendous external validity.

Again, 1,000 is nowhere near 5,000, so this unfortunately is an L for you.

It's readily apparent you didn't understand my "point".

Even with the poll loaded in favor of demoscats:

"Overall, 57% say their perfect Obama successor would change most of the policies of the Obama administration..."

Oh, and by the way, there's nothing magical about polling 5000 respondents. Nothing, so why are you hung up on that number?

The accuracy of polls is determined by weighting assigned to the various factors and, the way poll questions are posed to respondents.

Actually the overwhelming majority of respondents (who could just be people who have nothing better to do) were NEITHER REP OR DEM. So no, its not weighted toward Dems at all. And since we have no idea who those Independents are, it is as bogus as most polls. Just more ratings spinning by the circus media whom you continue to label "leftist" though they are nothing of the kind.

And still campaigning for Hillary in effect. Worked well in Obama's case didnt it? Just proves you got nobody and the public is getting wise to it. I hear the tool Limbaugh is getting canned on another big network.

I suppose you still haven't mastered reading with comprehension.

The poll was weighted with 28% demoscats and 24% republicans.

The results of the last 3 elections in America put the lie to that over-weighting of demoscats.

In case you missed it...and your comments indicate you did miss it, republicans in the last 3 elections have gone from not controlling the US House or the US Senate to controlling both the House and Senate. Further, republicans have gotten solid control of a big majority of state governorships and state legislatures.

But, that's academic to the thrust of this thread.

Americans, by a large majority want O'Bomber's policies, initiatives and legislative acts, aided by his Socialist comrades in Congress...OVERTHROWN!

Unfortunately the economy is not really the reason for the syndrome mentioned in this article, as our resident Conservative could well have afforded to see the world but COULDNT BE BOTHERED like many others who believe Obama is a Socialist and the Corporatists and Kochs are the slightest bit interested in FREE trade markets.

Detailed errors of Amer ican Exceptionalists in the link

To hear the far-right ideologues of Fox News and AM talk radio tell it, life in Europe is hell on Earth. Taxes are high, sexual promiscuity prevails, universal healthcare doesn’t work, and millions of people don’t even speak English as their primary language! Those who run around screaming about “American exceptionalism” often condemn countries like France, Norway and Switzerland to justify their jingoism. Sadly, the U.S.’ economic deterioration means that many Americans simply cannot afford a trip abroad to see how those countries function for themselves. And often, lack of foreign travel means accepting clichés about the rest of the world over the reality. And that lack of worldliness clouds many Americans' views on everything from economics to sex to religion.

However, when the majority REFRAIN FROM VOTING it is disingenuous to say they do or don't want anything. With the case in SC threatening loss of coverage by the Fed, more states are opting IN to Obamacare. .not out.

Yeah, thanks O'Bomber for reducing family incomes about $4,000 per year.

Thanks O'Bomber for depositing millions more Americans to below the poverty line poor.

Thanks O'Bomber for holding down American employment to the point fewer Americans are working now than when you began infesting the White House.

Thanks O'Bomber for importing millions of immigrants to take those jobs American businesses did create.

Actually, republicans are all for "free trade"...more so than I like. It's demoscats who oppose giving O'Bomber "fast track" authority in trade agreements.

How is it that you always manage to get it wrong? Or, is it that you think you can say anything and you won't be challenged for your obvious errors?

Emotions over Obama's trade agenda roil Senate, delay action
Associated Press
By CHARLES BABINGTON

WASHINGTON (AP) — Emotional disagreements over trade erupted in Congress on Wednesday, when a liberal senator postponed a committee's likely endorsement of a top trade priority for President Barack Obama.

The day began with Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, predicting a "strong bipartisan vote" for "fast track" legislation. The measure would renew presidential authority to present trade deals that Congress can endorse or reject but not amend.

But liberal Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., a fierce opponent of the trade legislation, invoked a Senate scheduling rule to postpone the committee's actions for hours.

"This job-killing trade deal has been negotiated in secret," said Sanders, who made a lengthy Senate speech denouncing the legislation. "It was drafted with input by special interests and corporate lobbyists, but not from the elected representatives of the American people."

Hatch rejected the claims, saying fast track and other trade proposals have been carefully negotiated and will undergo long public scrutiny.

"We need to be doing all we can tear down barriers to American exports while, at the same time, creating enforceable rules for our trading partners so we can be sure that American workers and job creators are competing on a level playing field," Hatch said.

He said the committee would work late into the night if necessary to address many proposed amendments. "We're going to finish this bill today, I don't care how much time it takes," he said.

The Hatch-Sanders dispute is one of many emerging as Congress turns to trade proposals bitterly opposed by labor unions and others who say trade pacts hurt U.S. jobs.

Obama says his Democratic opponents have their facts wrong. He wants fast-track powers to help push free-trade proposals such as the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership.

"I would not be doing this trade deal if I did not think it was good for the middle class," Obama said in an interview Tuesday with MSNBC. "When you hear folks make a lot of suggestions about how bad this trade deal is, when you dig into the facts, they are wrong."

Several top Democrats aren't backing down, however. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada told reporters, "I'm not only no, I'm hell no" on Obama's bid for fast-track authority.

Few issues divide Democrats more than trade. Obama, like former President Bill Clinton, supports free trade, but many Democratic lawmakers do not.

Clinton's and Obama's stands — and liberal groups' opposition — pose a dilemma for Hillary Rodham Clinton, the former first lady now seeking the presidency herself. Campaigning Tuesday in New Hampshire, she declined to say whether she supports the Pacific-rim proposal.

"We need to build things, too," Clinton said, taking a pro-manufacturing stance generally embraced by both parties. "We have to do our part in making sure we have the capabilities and skills to be competitive," she said, while getting back to "a much more focused effort, in my opinion, to try to produce those capacities here at home."

Senate Finance Committee member Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., says the administration must press China to stop manipulating its currency, even though China isn't a party to the Pacific-rim negotiations. "I'm disappointed in the efforts by President Obama," Schumer said.

If a nation keeps its currency value artificially low, it can boost exports by making local products more affordable to foreigners. Economists disagree on whether China still engages in the practice, and the Obama administration says it addresses currency manipulation in the fast-track bill.

Republicans generally support trade pacts. But Obama can't count on them alone to push the fiercely debated bills through the GOP-controlled House and Senate.

"He has to bring Democrats," Rep. Paul Ryan, the Wisconsin Republican who heads the House Ways and Means Committee, said Wednesday.

"This absolutely has to be bipartisan in order to be successful," said Ryan. He said he feels Obama is on the right track on this issue even though he disagrees with the president on many other matters.

Most or all Senate Finance Committee Republicans support fast track. Democratic supporters include Sens. Ron Wyden of Oregon, Maria Cantwell of Washington, Tom Carper of Delaware and Mark Warner of Virginia.

Committee passage would move the bill to the full Senate. The House has yet to vote on fast track this year.

Giving corporations the right to override national regulations and interests, to sue whole countries for "loss of expected profits"..is not free trade. This is what is being objected to. Outsourcing jobs to the lowest bidders also.

The holy grail of free trade has been swallowed by multinationals and killed smaller businesses..and sold to the voters as free enterprise. No thanks.

Not saying there should be no deal..but that we have rnough NAFTABAFTASHAFTA already..even too much.

But sounds like you're gonna love Hillary

That's bullshiiite!

demoscat objections to free trade agreements center on loss of America jobs..including this free trade agreement.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with the Koch brothers, nothing.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with multinational corporations over-ruling the Congress of the United States, nothing.

Just more of the old tired lies from lying leftist loons.

Believe it or not, I'm on the side of concerned democrats. But, I'm not on the side of leftist loons who lie through their teeth about their reasons for opposition to free trade. Leftist loons who lie out of both sides of their lying mouths. Leftist loons are all in favor of International bodies having jurisdiction over trade disputes. In most cases, those international bodies rule directly against the United States in trade disputes and leftist loons just love anyone, nation, individual or international body which holds the United States in contempt.

So, save your bloviating and the bloviating of the lying leftist loon, America hating brigades.

After Getting Shot Down By Federal Court, Obama Just Got Slapped Down By Anti-Amnesty Voters
This is also a huge potential problem for Hillary...
Norvell Rose
May 27, 2015

Barack Obama’s bad week just got even worse, with a one-two gut-punch against the president’s executive amnesty for illegal immigrants. Tuesday’s federal appeals court ruling upholding the temporary block of Obama’s executive order has now been followed by a new poll showing an increasing number of Americans lining up against an overreaching president’s unilateral action.

As Western Journalism reported yesterday, Obama’s effort to defer deportation and grant certain citizenship rights to millions of illegal immigrants was dealt a stunning setback. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit kept in place a Texas judge’s block on the executive order, marking the second major legal setback for an administration that was bypassing the Congress and charging ahead on its highly controversial program to make sure as many as 5 million illegals are allowed to stay in the U.S. legally.

As might be expected, the administration hasn’t simply said it disagrees with the ruling of the Fifth Circuit; an Obama spokeswoman accused the two judges who kept the temporary stay in place of choosing to “misinterpret the facts and the law.” Obama has long argued that his actions are legal and in keeping with the Constitution — a position that the appeals court ruling sharply challenged.

Now, on top of the judicial problems for Obama’s plan to welcome millions of illegals to America with rights that could see them become a powerful Democrat voting bloc, there’s a big popularity problem for the president and his insistence on pushing forward with amnesty. Results of a new poll just released by Rasmussen Reports pile worse news on top of bad for Obama. More and more likely voters say they oppose Obama’s executive action on amnesty and believe that he has exceeded his authority in trying to impose his will on the American people.

Most voters still oppose President Obama’s plan to exempt up to five million illegal immigrants from deportation, with more than ever saying he doesn’t have the legal authority to take such action.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 56% of Likely U.S. Voters now oppose the president’s plan to allow the illegal immigrants to remain in this country legally and apply for jobs. That’s up from 51% in early February…

In addition, the Rasmussen survey has found that 59% of likely voters now say President Obama does not have the legal power to do what’s he’s trying to pull off — a solid belief that Obama is acting illegally that’s way up from 52% in February and a high to date of those saying the president is acting unconstitutionally.

Not only do these polling figures bode ill for the Obama agenda–they also pose a huge potential problem for 2016 hopeful Hillary Clinton, who has vowed to run to the left of the president in her support for illegal immigrants.
