A U.S. senator wants to use federal organized crime laws against skeptics of man-made global warming. Nothing says desperation quite like a politician hoping to criminalize a difference of opinion.

In a Washington Post op-ed, Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse charges in against what he calls "the climate denial network." This group, he says, is behind a "a massive and sophisticated campaign to mislead the American people about the environmental harm caused by carbon pollution." His solution? Prosecute the network with "the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO."

Because RICO laws — which were enacted to break up the mob — had been used to crush the tobacco industry, Whitehouse finds them handy for throwing "the climate denial network" in the dock. After all, he says, "the parallels between what the tobacco industry did and what the fossil fuel industry is doing now are striking."

The Democrat admits that he doesn't "know whether the fossil fuel industry and its allies engaged in the same kind of racketeering activity as the tobacco industry." But his message is clear. Prosecute to persecute those who don't agree with him.

Whitehouse's public fretting isn't a shock. Those who keep holding onto the man-made climate change story have been desperate for some time. The climate models they base their argument on have failed. The storms they predicted haven't arrived. The snow hasn't stopped. The poles aren't melting. A look around the world simply fails to turn up any of the disasters they've predicted. So they're having to go to great lengths to keep the story alive.

How long this will go on, we don't know. Those who believe that man is warming the planet to a disastrous end are a stubborn lot. They won't let go easily.

But of this we're certain: Their argument isn't — to use one of their favorite words — sustainable.

Perhaps he is talking about the very obvious coverup and smear job that has been deliberately waged against what the fossil companies knew

Even before there was a "buzz" about greenhouse gases...

There's a far greater probability that Bill and Hillary Clinton will be prosecuted under RICO statutes for bribery...on a massive scale than wide awake scientists telling the truth about the non-issue of Man Made Global Warming.

Whitehouse is just another leftist lunatic doing what leftist lunatics do...namely shooting his stupid mouth off about something he knows absolutely nothing about!

Dear Mr. President,

take your Man Made Global Warming Bullshiiite and stuff it!

Nobel Prize-Winning Scientist Who Endorsed Obama Now Says Prez. is ‘Ridiculous’ & ‘Dead Wrong’ on ‘Global Warming’

Nobel Prize Winning Physicist Dr. Ivar Giaever: 'Global warming is a non-problem'

'I say this to Obama: Excuse me, Mr. President, but you're wrong. Dead wrong.'

'Global warming really has become a new religion.'

"I am worried very much about the [UN] conference in Paris in November...I think that the people who are alarmist are in a very strong position.'

'We have to stop wasting huge, I mean huge amounts of money on global warming.'

Until recently, Lovelock thought that global warming would be just like his half-assed forest – something the planet would correct for. Then, in 2004, Lovelock's friend Richard Betts, a researcher at the Hadley Centre for Climate Change-England's top climate institute – invited him to stop by and talk with the scientists there. Lovelock went from meeting to meeting, hearing the latest data about melting ice at the poles, shrinking rain forests, the carbon cycle in the oceans. "It was terrifying," he recalls. "We were shown five separate scenes of positive feedback in regional climates – polar, glacial, boreal forest, tropical forest and oceans – but no one seemed to be working on whole - planet consequences..."

Yeah, it is terrifying when you go by what the models tell you. Fortunately, they're always very very very wrong. This is pure science fiction.

Did you read the article? Though he has recently changed some of his views, his basic thought is that both climate change deniers and believers are more like religious sheep than scientists, that we know little about how it will pan out, but that unless we learn to use our brains and work together, the human race will be disposed of by Gaia.

But he is the creator of the Gaia theory of earth as a living system ..and points out that too much pollution and deforestation throw off the inbuilt homeostasis mechanisms.

Very interesting man, and doggedly independent throughout his 60 year career. He sees the corruption of money on both sides ...and the dangers of interminable arguing between camps resulting in doing Nothing effective until things are desperately urgent.

I keep coming back to the most important thing being figuring out how to clean up the poisonous messes we make everywhere..I don't agree with everything he says, in fact he is brave enough to admit he's not always right.

But if you think money is any less a driver of the Deniers than the "believers" - or one sides followers are any less religious than the other 's - you're missing the forest for the trees imo.
