I had been following this on the news. Such a sad situtation and more terrorist type acts by an american citizen on his fellow countryman/woman. When I think of the confederate flag, I think of states rights, ag vs industry, and all the thousands dead in war. The removal of the flag should be put to vote to the South Carolinians . Leave politics/politicians out of it ------------------

The Confederate flag was a) the army standard b) retired between the end of the war and the beginning of the Civil Rights movement.The Confederate manifesto is all about retaining the definition of coloured people as an inferior subspecies and defending the right of men to own other men. I can excuse the antebellum south for defending what was part of the fabric of life as they knew it, tho some slaveowners went beyond ownership to outright cruelty... But the mi dern reappearance of this flag is a middle finger to the Civil Rights movement, and States' rights as often as not just refusal to observe the law of the land. As today we have States swearing they will stop issuing marriage licenses altogether if they have to acknowledge gay couples. To many, including Dylann Roof who was schooled and encouraged to hate and fear "blacks taking over", equal rights is downright threatening. At the very least this flag is honouring those who would secede before concede they might have been wrong
